Oh, Colum....I swear he's my favourite hero yet in the Called by a Highlander series!! I thoroughly enjoyed Colum and Danielle's story, which is steeped in history in the time of Robert the Bruce. I adore these historical time travel romances and Mariah Stone is definitely one of my favourite authors in that genre.

My emotions ran the gamut with everything that goes on and you can practically feel the passion between Colum and Danielle jumping out the pages at you. Well written and a real page turner.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Book: Highlander’s Destiny
Author: Mariah Stone
Series: Called by a Highlander, Book #10
Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars
Blog Rating: 5/5 Saltire Flags

1306 Berwick, Scotland

Colum was forced to watched men die he had known all his his entire life, who were like brothers to him! Even his new companions, who were King Robert the Bruce’s warrior’s who had become his new friends. They were all slaughtered like pigs, being quartered, beheaded with their entails scattered all over the fields and villages. It was a horror he wished he could forget and how he wished he had died with them!

The English Prince only saved Colum due to his wealth and powerful connections to his brave and strong clan. This evil English Prince that he wanted to change sides. As some Scottish traitors changed sides betraying their King, and country. Colum didn’t really have a choice wanting to save his Queen! Betraying his clan and country or watch his Queen be assaulted in the most degrading way with Robert the Bruce’s young child watching. Colum had no choice but to betray everything he believed in, he definitely wished he had died with his men!

Present Day, Bannockburn

Danielle Field had been taken captive when she was sixteen years old by a handsome neighbor whom she had a crush on. Of course she did not have Stockholm syndrome, she denied it though she did seem to feel sorry for her crazy unhinged neighbor. No one realized she was only right next door.

For this reason Danielle is very damaged when it comes to trusting other people-especially men. She can’t even have a normal relationship with a man like having a boyfriend etc. It is also why she works and applies for jobs where she can get the bad guys, especially cyber attacks. It is where men who watch, follow and stalk children on the internet like she had been doing.

Now Danielle is English and is visiting her sister in Scotland who just loves everything about history so much. During this time she meets this woman who Danielle thinks is definitely off her rocker. As she promises if she puts her hand on this rock she will travel to the past and meet the love of her life! Yeah right Danielle thought, a man from the past, whose name is Colum MacDonald and is in the fourteenth century and is also very damaged and dealing with PSD like her. Of course they didn’t have a term or realized the had posttraumatic stress disorder in the fourteenth century. Except Danielle does ends up in the past and suspected of being an English spy and of all things a teenage boy!

Now Danielle is being held captive and tied up once again, except she see’s good and honor in this handsome warrior who is one of King Robert the Bruces men. However she frees herself and Colum does realize this English lass is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. The biggest problem is he feels he is a traitor once again falling for a woman who is English, and possibly a spy of all things! Will Colum abandon her or fight for the woman he loves?

Mariah Stone is one of my go to authors and never disappoints me,writing another fascinating time travel tale that I absolutely loved. Again this tenth book in her Called by a Highlander series. A book about danger, hatred, mistrust, high adventure and love that goes through and beyond time. A love/hate relationship due to scars of their past, as they both had the most horrid and grievous past.
However, they both find it hard to get through their pain and PSD to open up their hearts and trust people again. They have both been so used and abused by things that happened in their past, can this couple learn the true meaning of love? Read and find out the conclusion of this exhilarating book.

You can read this as a stand alone book or in book order, either way it is definitely a book that readers don’t want to miss! I absolutely loved it! A book I highly recommend!

Amazingly emotional time travel story

Two traumatised people dealing with past cruelties.
Neither trusting the other.
Danielle and Colum’s story was like a maelstrom of emotions.
From hate and distrust, to grudging respect, like, protection and then an all consuming burning love.
An amazingly great read, as expected in this time travel series by Mariah Stone.

I know I’m reading a good book when….
-my stomach churns as I’m worrying about the outcome of a particular part in the story.
Not wanting to read further for fear of what will happen but having to as I MUST know the outcome.
-the need to grab for tissues to dab at my eyes repeatedly.

Each book follows on in someway with the storylines and characters mentioned in previous books, making it an all round excellent series that to me, is a must read.
Looking forward to reading all future books.

Will she let her distrust of others and inability to trust herself lead her on the wrong path …

Is it because I was determined to love this last book in this series that I struggled with the heroine?
I loved Collum from the beginning, since he has been introduced a few books ago, the author with talent portrayed his struggles and his broken self.
A man who was more than his damaged name.
He is honorable to the fault, enduring loathing glances, hateful words because he believes in what he had to do and will always fight for his country.
Danielle too is not whole, yet because of a little something I never really warmed to her.
She is a modern self sufficient woman, she survived a traumatic experience that made her the woman she is now, a sort of a spy, never letting anyone coming close to her, yet she can’t grasp the weight of her actions nor defend herself. Or taking the wrong decisions for the wrong reasons.

Until the narrative reached the main gigantic battle of Bannockburn, when Danielle finally stands for what she wants.
The epilogue is awesome as it should be, bringing together well known heroes and freeing others from the past.

Highlander's Destiny
A Scottish historical time travel romance
Mariah Stone
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Danielle Field visits her sister at Stirling Castle in Scotland 2022, where preparations for the Battle of Bannockburn reenactment are in full swing, but when she touches a rune-covered rock and plunges back in time to the Middle ages, everything looks way too real.

Scotland 1314. Highland warrior Colum MacDonald betrayed his clan to save his queen, but nobody except Robert the Bruce knows the full truth of it all. Now Colum feels that only helping King Robert win the upcoming battle will restore his honor and let him feel part of his clan again. When Colum discovers Danielle listening to the Scots' strategic plans, he mistakes her for an English lad and drags her in as a spy and possible assassin.

Now with Danielle in shackles, Colum sets out to break into the English camp and kill King Edward II. Danielle knows shes not who Colum thinks she is and trys to outsmart her captor to no avail. But while doing so she finds herself feeling cravings for the man that she just can't ignore. And once Colum realizes that Daniel is actually Danielle and a woman, he starts to have his own battles with cravings for her as well.

Once again Mariah Stone has captivated me again. From the moment I opened this wonderful story and until the last word was read, you could not tear me away from it. This was a beautiful love story between two people from two different time periods who had both been through their own personal hells. Colum was so brave and he never wanted to see a woman get hurt. Daneille was brave as well to have been kidnapped and held in a basement for so long. These two characters were meant for eachother. I could feel their emotions get stronger and stronger with each page I turned.
Ms. Stone I think this has to be my most favorite book yet.

Wow, what a book ! I have been waiting for Colum to get his story. He lost the most important thing to him eight years ago. He was captured and imprisoned by the English. When his clan come to rescue him, they found him in an English uniform ! Most of clan now do not trust him and see him as a traitor. Life has been hard and lonely for him these last eight years. Only his family has anything to do with him.
The famous battle of Bannockburn is being reenacted and Danielle is in Scotland to support her sister, Jamie who is in charge of it. They are at Stirling Castle and as interesting as the reenactment is Danielle has bigger problems on her mind, like saving her job. When she goes for a walk see runs into none other than Sineag ! Now if you have read any of this series you know what that means. She tricks Danielle into placing her hand on the magic rock and bam she wakes up in the 1314 the time of the real battle. Both Danielle and Colum have both been held against their will and suffer from what they went thru.
Colum catches her listening at the tent and claims she is a spy and a boy. From here on these two will take you thru a suspenseful journey. During which they will have to overcome a number of obstacles. As they spend time together, secrets will unfold, events take them into danger and also love and understanding.
This is a fast-paced story and once you get started you are drawn into the time period. You can feel the danger, the battle heat, how scared Danielle must have felt. This is a story that was worth waiting for.
You can read the books out of order but much better if you read them in order. Either way you don't want to miss this one. This is a passionate and steamy story, for those who like to know
I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

Great damaged hero, exciting time for Scotland!🏰👑

I've enjoyed this whole Mariah Stone Highlander series, but Colum MacDonald, the hero of Highlander's Destiny, is so fragile emotionally and so brave and self-sacrificing he had me near to tears😣. He's really one of the most honorable good guys and a warrior to depend upon, no matter what his clan believes, for Scotland's glorious Robert the Bruce and his loved ones. For me, Colum was, by far, the star of the story.

Time traveler, MI5 operative Danielle, Colum's fated love, took a while for me to like. But her adolescent backstory helped, as did her devotion to Colum. And, ultimately, if Colum thought the world of her, how could I not warm to her prickly ways? For those not familiar with the series, expect some scenes with heated romancing. If that's not your thing, just skim past; there's a lot more to this novel of a time traveler locked into love with a medieval Scot!

A large part of the action is centered on the strategic battle between England's Edward II and Robert the Bruce's forces at Bannockburn, right up there with 1746's decisive Culloden as an event that dramatically changed Scottish history. The battle scenes are exciting even though our time travelers know the general outcome. Because characters I grew to love were in the battle and battles can be won while individual combattants are lost.

The Scottish history and the couple's love story combine to make a super climax for the series. It's useful to have read earlier books in the series since the other couples have minor roles in Highlander's Destiny, but it's not necessary. This one could also be read as a standalone: no cliffhanger ending!

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

2022 Stirling Scotland.

Danielle is enjoying herself, with family and friends at the annual reenactment of the
Battle of Bannockburn.

A walk around to see the set up and sights, finds Danielle meeting a stranger.

TIME TRAVELS
and Danielle finds herself sitting in a field, not sure where she is.
The city of Stirling has disappeared.

Life as it was in 13th century Scotland, comes to life in this book, including the deceit, the clan warfare and distrust.

Robert the Bruce is sitting on the throne of Scotland, desperately out numbered and under resourced in the war against the British.

King George the 3rd is the British king, not known for his mercy.

Mariah Stone has delighted me with this series.
All the books are based on the facts of history, with wonderful historical stories and romances
that bring the books to life on the page.

I would recommend the full series.
You will soon get to know the characters and the love they share.

Intrigue, betrayal and romance - once started I couldn't put it down.
Danielle is visiting her sister in Scotland when she travels back in time and finds herself imprisoned as an English spy by highlander Colum. Colum decides to use the boy to get near to King Edward II to kill him, imagine his shock when he finds out the boy is actually a woman!
I was looking forward to this story: Danielle and Colum are antagonistic right from the start, so no falling into each-other’s arms in love on sight for them, she is constantly trying to escape and he is just as adamant that she will do what he wants. As expected by Ms Sone, the descriptions are excellent and you get a real feel of Scotland during the 1300’s, and the characters are well rounded and believable. It was nice to catch up with previous time-travellers too.

Colum a highland warrior who has been ostracised by his clan who think he betrayed them , for reasons of his own only the King , Robert the Bruce knows the truth.

Danielle who works for MI5, is in Scotland visiting her sister in Stirling , who is a co-ordinator of a group who re-enact the Battle of Bannockburn, by accident Danielle finds herself thrown back in time. There she meets Colum who not only mistakes her for an English spy but a boy no less.

I loved Colum and Danielle's story, it had everything ,and what a wonderful ending to a brilliant series.

Emotionally Powerful,Stimulating, and Heartwarming. Two lost souls that carry so much trauma from the past.Never believing they are worthy of friendship or even being loved or finding it.Till somehow fate was able to bring them together.
Danielle Field and Column MacDonald met after she Time Traveled back to 1314. Although she was suppose to meet her perfect match, things did not turn out as expected. Many obstacles were in play. Not only there own pasts, but a war going on and major trust issues to resolve.
This story had me in tears. Beautifully told about this couple trying to forget and heal, move on and let Love Do It’s Magic.

What a fantastic read!!! This story has it all! The storyline is outstanding and grabs you so quickly there is no way you can put it down!! I love the characters and I believe that this is the best one of the series and they are all great, but this is a definite topper!! The characters are very well developed in the story and there is not a dull moment in it! It almost gives a new meaning to action packed and to see how both Danielle and Colum evolve in it, is so special and sweet. It has a happily ever after and is written true to the times it mostly takes place in! Sit back and enjoy some true reader's delight!

Just when I thought this series couldn’t get any better, this book drops in my lap, and I figure I was wrong. This story grabbed my interest from the first chapter and held on until I reached the very last page. Colum has had a troubled life and needs to prove himself to his king. Danielle and Colum are deserving of each other and even though their path to happiness is fraught with danger and upheaval, their final journey is well worth taking a chance on this book. Great story!

Another great Scottish highland historical time travel romance. The author brings strong characters and weaves an action packed story filled with suspense, secrets and danger. She does a terrific job bringing Colum and Danielle together through all the obstacles and gives them a hot and steamy chemistry and love. It's well written, moves fluidly with perfectly painted scenes and is a great read. Loved this book/series!

A amazing time travel series and finally Colum story is told. He has been woven into several of the previous books and I always felt sorry for the misunderstood Highlander. Colum was imprisoned by the English and when finally rescued was caught wearing the English colors, a turncoat. He lost the trust of his clan and beholding to the King of Scotland to hold the secret of why he pledged alliance to King Edward II. Trying to earn back the clans trust for the last 8 years, he captures a English spy by the Bruce tent.
Danielle is visiting her sister by Stirling Castle for the reenactment of the battle of Bannockburn. Worried about her upcoming trial and possible loss of her job, she is what one would say a spy for England. Seeking shelter in some nearby trees from the rain she stubbles by some rocks and the one starts glowing. Yes, if you read the other books she is back! Although it seems that Sineag was missing some of her mischievous sparkle. A dare was made and Danielle travels back to 1314. Still thinking it’s the reenactment, but something is not quite right. Missing lots of houses and there are no roads. She wanders into the camp and that doesn’t seem quite right. Being caught by the Bruce tent and accuse of being a spy. A bit ironic since that is what she really was, just not in 1314.
Colum and Danielle both have trust issues and not really any friends or much of a life. They basically existed, but what was capture and prisoner turns into more as they let down their barriers and learn each other secrets.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series and so happy that Colum finally got what was coming to him. Danny is of course in disguise because no man in the middle ages would ever think that a women would be dressed in pants. The story of these two misfits is entertaining as f course fraught with danger on every page. Happy the series ended on a happy and memorable note.

She’s strong, brave and very smart. He’s loyal, caring and fierce. Yet in this book the past haunts both of the main characters. Their pain is deep and unending. It has emotionally crippled them both. As much as they deny it, the attraction is there, but they have both lost the trust needed to proceed.

Colum MacDonald is suffering from an incident eight years ago. Keeping a secret about this has cost him a lot.
Danielle Field is also still partly traumatised from an incident that happened when she was a teenager.
Both of these people have trust issues.
When Danielle is visiting her sister at a re-enactment of the battle of Bannockburn she touches a glowing rock and is transported back in time.

Colum finds her and thinks she is an English spy.

Can these two come to trust each other? Can they help with the battle that makes Robert the Bruce King of Scotland – free of the English king.

This book contains intrigue, betrayal, action and a slow burn romance.

This is the last book in this series and wraps up some secrets from previous books. You can read and enjoy this book if you haven’t read the previous ones.
I really enjoyed this book as well as the whole series.

Another great time travel book in the series. It was hard to put down once I started reading. Book filled with intrigue, betrayal, humour and romance. Characters have great flow and interaction and are well rounded. Her descriptions of the scenes make you feel as you are part of the story.

Danielle, invece, funziona solo a tratti.

Mariah Stone always gets it done! Love across the ages where women and men of this time, by the river of time opened by Sineagh, fall in the time where the Bruce fought for a united Scotland. The clans Mackenzie, Campbel and MacDonald are staunch supporters of the Bruce but in their midst are several time travelers who have stayed with the love of their lives. All their previous stories now come together in this final part where the final battle is fought that the Bruce will win.
In this part also the story of Colum MacDonald.

8 years ago he swore his allegiance to the wrong king, the English King Edward II, to save his queen from rape and humiliation. His clan has never forgiven him for choosing to fight for the English, not knowing why because he promised to keep it a secret. And even though he's back in his clan, he feels they don't trust him despite all the good things he does.
Now for the final battle, he discovers a young man eavesdropping on conversations between the Bruce and his captains. Not knowing she is a woman, he captures her and wants her to lead him to Edward's army where he wants to try and kill Edward before coming to a fight against Bruce's army.
Daniella has bumped into Sinaegh and she doesn't believe anything she tells her. That on the other side of the stone there is a man waiting for her, her one true love. Daniella has been suspicious of those around her all her life after she was kidnapped as a young girl. She believed in the good of a man but that cost her dearly. Besides the fact that she doesn't trust others, she doesn't trust herself either.
Through the stone, coming in the medieval years of 1314, she will learn what it is to trust, learn to trust others and what true love is.

This was a really great story about mistrust, learning to trust others and receiving and giving love. 2 People with similar experiences even though 700 years apart, who heal each other.
And how beautiful, the ending, in which various characters return to celebrate the victory of the Bruce together.
Heartwarming but also a tear because with this part a really great series has come to an end.

Thank you Mariah for putting your trust in me and letting me be part of your group of people who were allowed to read and review an ARC. This is my voluntarily given review.

This is a wonderful addition to this simply wonderful series and I guarantee that you will love every single moment of this amazing read and as always you will be left looking forward to the next book in the series.

As the re-enactment of the Bannockburn Scotland 2022 the Highland warriors are all dressed in their finery as they cover the well-known battle with all of the warriors in their finery and there is nothing and no one that would ever forget that memorable battle.

Then there was Column MacDonald who had left his clan to save the queen, he watches as a slim figure hide in the bushes seemingly listening to the Scot’s and their plans. He captures him and puts him into shackles without actually realising that he is in fact a she by the name of Danielle.

As the couple spend time together, they realise that they have a good chance of actually building a relationship between each of these men and it is essential that they work together and as they do it soon becomes apparent that they are actually starting to have feelings for each other and they have to begin working together.

Can the love and the passion bring them together and will it be essential that love be able to stretch over the centuries…

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

FANTASTIC!!!! Highlander's Destiny by Mariah Stone is book 10 and the final book in the series Called by a Highlander. Though I am a tad sad to see this series end I have to say I enjoyed every single one of these book and looking forward to a new series by Mariah. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. What I loved about this book was the banter in the beginning plus it has Robert the Bruce in it my favorite medieval hero but there is nothing better than great banter in a book and this has the finest. There is true history in this book and I can not even imagine the research that had to be done for this book. This enemies to lovers, time traveler story was so very well written. Mariah alway has the most original stories and each is written as well as all the rest. It does touch on a sensitive subject of being kidnaped and help prisoner but I think Mariah has written this book with respect and grace. I found this book to be easy to read, original, wonderful characters, had the real feel of the Medieval era, very well written and just a fantastic read. What a way to end a series Mariah!!! This story has a spy from the 21st century, a laird that need to prove he is not a traitor to his clan, keeping a secret to protect another while being called a traitor, a mistaken identity, battle of Bannockburn, being held captive, going against Robert the Bruce, traveling to Berwick to sabotage the English, rescue, misunderstandings and falling in love. I am highly recommending you read this book!!! It really is FANTASTIC!!!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Colum was being held in Bernice Castle in English held Scotland and the Prince of Wales, Edward the 2nd wanted him to switch to England’s side. This would give the English the MacDonald’s naval strength it didn’t have and would help them find and kill Robert the Bruce. The Prince’s men had already killed 9 Scottish warrior knights without a trial or ransom, in extremely horrific ways. Robert the Bruce’s Queen, Elizabeth and his daughter were there. Poor Colum had to choose between keeping his queen from being dishonored or from his clan’s honor. He chose his queen and bent the knee.

Sisters, Danielle and Jamie are at Sterling Castle. Dani for plants and Jamie for historic and there was going to be a reenactment. Jamie likes Liam and tries to impress him with her sister’s job as an intelligence officer in MI5. Her informant had disappeared and once found was put under psychological care. She might lose her job soon because of this. Dani had also been kidnapped and kept by a psycho and Liam recognized her from the news sixteen years ago. She runs towards the standing stones during the rain, and finds the one with the handprint and, yup like the others before her, talks to Sineag and puts her hand in the handprint and falls through time back to 1314.

Mayhem ensues. Absolutely beautiful love story. Absolutely heart breaking war, as we know the history of what will happen a few centuries later. I loved this book and this series.

This is the tenth and last book in the series, Called by a Highander by Mariah Stone, Colum MacDonald is getting his story and Danielle who is English and from the year2022 ,she is a spy for the government and is in trouble and might lose her position! Hopefully you have read the previous books in the series and know how she is sent back in time to the year 1314, in short time when she meets Colum who is with Robert the Bruce planning the war against England! Their journey together has so much suspence and danger and mistrust between them. I loved how they fell in love, they both recognize how much they meant to each other and made their time together count. Danielle had a meeting with her government bosses if she would still have her job, so wanted to return to the year2022, and family members that would be worried about her missing. Her time with Colum made her want to help Scotland get it's independence from England, I have read the previous books in this series and have enjoyed them all, but Colum and Danielle story was one of the best I've read, will catch your interest from the beginning and with so many twists and turns in the book I couldn't put it down. I received this ebook as ARC and I can honestly write that I enjoyed the book and was hoping everyone would end happy. I recommend this book and the rest of this series, story has so much drama and history and wonderful ending!

Every one of Mariah Stone's novels is great, this entire series has been such an adventure and she saved the best for last.
Danielle, an MI5 agent spy is sent back in time to meet Colum MacDonald the man forced to betray his clan. We now come to understand why he did so. We also find out that both of these characters are scarred from their pasts. But could they have a future to heal together?

Gosh, I loved this book. Danielle already had an incredible backstory from her past of captivity and then she is taken captive again. As is Colum. It makes you think about what would you do if something that had happened to you, happened again. How would you act and do things differently? The research Ms. Stone puts into her novels is what makes these stories so rich and the way she writes, everything just comes alive to suck you right in.
I highly recommend all books from this author but if you love the Highlander's series, you cannot miss out on this one. So much adventure and passion all in one book!
