Adaline Dermont had a dilemma. She was losing the home she and her aunt had lived in for the last seven years. Their money embezzled away by a crooked solicitor, Adaline must either become a mail order bride, or face the cruel streets of New Orleans. Her aunt had someplace to go, Adaline didn't. Mrs. Ridgley's Mail Order Bride Service looked like her only hope.
Lorcan Brody didn't have a dilemma, but he did have an overweight cat, a mother with a fierce Irish temper, and a best friend who got him into more scrapes than Lorcan could count. And one thing he didn't count on, was his parents' sending away for a mail order bride! Getting married was the last thing on his mind, and he let everyone know it, including the bride!
Find out what happens when two people think the thing that won't work, turns out to be the thing God had in mind all along ...
Kit Morgan, aka Geralyn Beauchamp, has been writing for fun all of her life. When writing as Geralyn Beauchamp, her books are epic, adventurous, romantic fantasy at its best. When writing as Kit Morgan they are whimsical, fun, inspirational sweet and clean stories that depict a strong sense of family and community. 'His Prairie Princess' is the first of the Prairie Brides books and the first in the series of a long line of stories about Clear Creek, Oregon. One of the wackiest little towns in the old west! Get to know the townsfolk in Clear Creek and come sit a spell!
NOTE: Hi folks, it has come to my attention there is an erotica book floating around out there written under the name Kit Morgan. IT IS NOT MY BOOK! I do not, and never will, write in that genre.
In 1871, the ill effects of the recently ended war and the subsequent reconstruction still hang over the once proud city of New Orleans, Louisiana and its inhabitants. Miss Adaline Dermont’s future is far from certain. Desperate times called for desperate solutions and she considers enquiring about becoming a mail order bride. The choices aren’t as plentiful as she had hoped for but one stood out above the others. The introductory letter is well written and a flicker of interest comes to Adaline as she gazes at the accompanying photograph. She looks at the large, handsome man in the portrait and decides to take a leap of faith. She is soon on the train heading northwest to Oregon City, Oregon. Her intended, Lorcan Brody has no idea that she is coming. The letter to the mail order bride agency was written by his mother in an attempt to settle him down and keep him out of the ring and change his pugilistic ways. The characters are well formed and likeable (especially Mrs. Fitzsimmons) and they grab your imagination. By the end of the story they all seem like old, dear friends.
In the past decade, many books have been written about mail order brides but this story has more than one twist to it, making it a cut above the rest.
A wonderful journey that touched my heart! So far I think this is my favorite in the series. Well, yes I say that about all of them, but with Michael Rahhal with an Irish brogue, well... it melted me to a puddle! Adaline Dermont had to find a place to go and it seemed like being a mail order bride would help her find a home. Imagine her surprise as she got to her destination and it was not Lorcan Brody, her betrothed, but his parents. What she found out was Lorcan's mother had sent for her and she was a surprise for him.. I want to just tell you this entire story but I will live it at that because you do not want to miss this one!! These two had a lot of twist and turns but I fell in love with them both.. The best..
I met Ms Morgan at a book conference and while talking she was raving about her narrator for her Holiday Mail Order Brides series. When she heard that I hadn't listened to any of them, she offered me a review copy. After listening to this story, I devoured the rest of the series, which were available to listen to via Amazon Prime (at the time of this review, I don't know if that is still the case).
This is book four in the series and while there were a couple parts and characters from prior books, it stands on it's own quite well. As always with series, it works best if read in order, as it enhances the story.
Let's start with the narration. Mr Rahhal is awesome. He does voices for all the characters and infuses so much emotion in his performance. I would not hesitate listening to more books narrated by Mr Rahhal, as he was quite entertaining.
On to the story... Adaline needs to escape New Orleans and her elderly aunt suggests becoming a mail order bride. And so Adaline is on the train to Oregon to marry Lorcan, a book store owner. Lorcan doesn't know that his mother has sent for a mail order bride for him, but is drawn to the woman and so begins their romance.
There are a few twists and turns in the story to make it interesting and to allow the characters and their romance to grow. All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I'm definitely a fan of Ms Morgan and Mr Rahhal.
This book was given to me for review, but all opinions are my own.
This is the fourth book in the Holiday Mail Order Brides series and even though they all have the same theme, groom didn't know he had a mail order bride, this one was the best. Our bride, Adaline wasn't from the Orphanage like the other brides but still needed somewhere to go. This one takes place around St. Patrick's day and they only mention this once or twice. There was no celebration and as far as I'm concerned, it's not really even a holiday. But the story is cute and has a better plot than the last two books. Our hero Lorcan needs someone to save him from himself and his best friend before it's too late. It's not as predictable as most romances and has several villains, one for our heroine and one for our hero. We still get our HEA but with a twist, a surprise ending that's a little sad.
I listened to this book on Audible -- the narration was good and did not distract from the book. I've been reading this series in order -- when the Holiday arose (mainly because I'm a sucker for Christmas books at Christmas time, so I figured why not a good "holiday" book at their appropriate time), however after reading this book, I kinda feel like it could have been read at any time! Mention of St. Patrick's day was pretty much in passing and had nothing to do with the story! I'm enjoying Kit Morgan's series on Mail Order Brides. I don't know that I would have ever had the courage to get on a train with the premise that I would marry the guy at the other end, so women that did kinda fascinate me.... and I love a good late 1800's/early 1900's historical romance! I enjoy Kit Morgan's characters, settings and plots. So, on to the next in the series!
This is the second book I have read from this series and I enjoyed it as much as the first. Adaline & her aunt have been left penny less in New Orleans after the Civil War. Her aunt arranges for Ada to be a mail order bride to Oregon. Lorcan's parents want him to settle down & marty & get away from his friends Finn who has a way of getting Lorcan involved in boxing matches. But, unbeknownst to Lorcan his parents sent for Ada. Will the "fur fly" or does God have something wonderful ahead for these two?
3.5 stars really. Nice story. Totally different from the previous books in this series. Different town. Adaline had lived with her aunt, not an orphanage. Similar to the others, it is the future mother-in-law that send away for the mail-order bride. Lorcan the future groom, is having none of it. However, Lorcan is a fighter in his spare time. Forced into a fight, he loses with some major medical problems. What will happen to Lorcan? Who will Adaline marry? I gave it only 3.5 stars because the ending felt rushed.
Adaline Dermont is another young woman from an orphanage in New Orleans who is being sent off as a mail-order bride. Once again, the bride has been ordered by a mother who is determined her son will marry. But, once again, the young man has no knowledge that when a beautiful young lady steps off the stagecoach in Oregon that he is her prospective bridegroom.
Morgan's Holiday Mail Order Brides series is a quick, easy read that is filled with humor, sweetness, and lots of fun as two people learn that they are just meant for each other.
This was a riveting story that kept me engaged until the end. When you travel thousands of miles to be a mail order bride, you don't expect to be turned away by your groom. The same man who only moments ago came crashing through a window no less! Lorcan Brody was shocked that his parents had brought a mail order bride to town for him. There was no way he was going to settle down, no matter how pretty Adeline was. These two had things to work through that's for sure.
I listened to the audiobook of this book. Sweet love story and great narration. Adalane is losing her home and the only way out is to become a mail order bride. So she travels to meet her intended, but he is not there to meet her. His parents are though, since they set this all up. Her husband to be, Lorcan is not happy when he finds out. What will Adalane do now, she can't go home, Lorcan doesn't want to marry her and she doesn't know anyone. This is only the beginning of problems.
Absolutely in love with this book has romance laughter and suspence. Loren Broody had no idea that his parents sent for a bride. She had no idea he didn't no.You will cheer for them and be concerned for them. It's a must read i couldn't out it down
This story is set in Oregon City and involves Adaline and Lorcan, an Irishman who has been making extra money in boxing fights. This shows the dangers of fighting and how it can cause serious injury. The author is quite good at writing Irish accents.
What a lively, determined, mail order Bride. Just about the time mail order Bride stories begin to blend together you find one that is refreshingly different. While there are some sad parts the majority of the story will keep a smile on your face.
Narrator: Michael Rahhal does a good enough job I liked it a lot. Would have like to know what happened to the British Lord who kidnapped the fighters.
Really enjoyed this story. It was very well written with excellent characters. At first I didn't think there would be a "bad guy", there's actually two. It's a nice clean story of loving someone in sickness and in health. Everyone can enjoy this one.
Love this series but missed the humor as this one is more serious. Still an interfering mother, mail order bride, surprised groom to be and criminal interference. Clean read..
This is a sweet, clean mail order bride story with a twist. When Adaline arrives in Oregon, it soon becomes apparent that her intended wasn't expecting her since it was his parents who wrote the letter. The story is well-written and the characters are realistic and likeable. After Lorcan is hurt, Adaline helps care for him and they fall in love. There is some suspense and danger along the way to their happy ending.
This was such a sweet story. Love wins over all. I loved the characters, story line and the suspense. What started out shaky blossoms into a true romance. I devoured this book fast. I couldn’t put it down. A true nail biter.
What a way to meet your mail-order bride! Flying through a window looking like a prize fighter. A surprise for both the bride and groom. Saint Patrick's day brought another surprise for many! Lots of action and interesting characters.
I found this book discounted on Amazon via FreeBooksy Just in case no one noticed, the Brodys are not a quiet bunch; they scream, they shout, they slap, and they push. There was more violence, gory details and aftermaths of illegal fights than romance. Not my favorite story.
