Song of Darkest Sins take place six months before the events of Shadows of a Dream. The Keili warrior, Aristoi, travels north into the Rangor Wastes in search of the fabled Well of Shadows and an end to the long road she has traveled for far too long. In the process, she becomes embroiled in a conflict not her own. A creature of legend stalks the barbarian tribes that call the Wastes home and the price of knowledge is putting an end to its killing spree.
Harby is a master at his craft, giving us some background on the story behind Aristoi (from Shadows of A Dream—go read it!) and what’s happened in her life before she appears in book one.
Aristoi is an impressive, gripping character, a fierce warrior and a solitary figure you cannot help but root for in some of the dangerous situations she finds herself.
As I don’t want to reveal any spoilers, let me just say that Harby’s crafting of the antagonist in this book is bone-chilling. I sat reading with goosebumps as it neared the end, and it’s left me wanting even more of the story!
