Bound to the Fae #1-3

Wolves of Summer: Bound to the Fae - Books 1-3

Rate this book
Three possessive wolf shifters. A wounded woman finding her strength. A world of dangerous fae determined to exploit her unexpected powers.
For years, the monsters who killed my family have held me in a cage. Brutalized and half-starved. Only kept alive so they can steal my blood.
Until one evening when three eerily gorgeous men rescue me.
They offer a safe haven under their protection with everything I need to heal. I'm not used to this kindness-or the desires their smoldering eyes and strong hands stir in my body and my heart.
But these fearsome men aren't really men. Like my former captors, they're fae who can shift into wolves. A curse gripping the faerie realm turns them wild under the full moon.
Only the strange power coursing through my veins can cure their rage.
I'm a prize as much as a person to them. But I've survived this long without giving up. And as I recover my strength, I'm winning their hearts as well.
Can this damaged human hold her own among the savage fae?
*Bound to the Fae is a fantasy romance series featuring possessive shifters, dangerous fae politics, and a wounded heroine coming into her own. This collection contains with the first three books in the series- Captive of Wolves, Feral Blood , and Kings of Moonlight -as well as three bonus scenes.*

Wolves of Summer is a box set featuring the first three books in the nine book series, Bound to the Fae by Eva Chase. I picked this title up; because of the cover.

Captive of Wolves

Captive of Wolves is book one in the Bound to the Fae series by Eva Chase.

It’s written in different POV’s and is a reverse harem.

The series follows one girl or should I say a young women who was kidnapped as a young teenager and spends the next nine years in captivate being abused, beaten, starved, and having her blood stollen all so the Fae, who can change into wolves, don’t go crazy one night each month.

I like the concept of Fae who are werewolves. This is new to me in the paranormal genre. I haven’t read this type of supernatural before.

Captive of Wolves, is a slow and a bit hard to read at times; because of the abuse and emotions. Then we have a very young heroine who is starting to come into her own. Her mindset is between a child and adolescence and maybe into adulthood so, having her have sexual rations with older men (immortals) didn’t work for me. It felt off. I’m also not a fan of young heroine’s.

As for the Fae men, our heroine is rescued by four of them, but not all of them like humans. About 80% of the book is spent with our heroine having moments with each guy and not all are good moments. One wants her gone, another is in the middle on his feelings, and the last two want to sleep with her.

The end is when our plot finally kicks in with some fighting, blood drinking, and then the guys talking about sharing her.

This book felt too much like Stockholm Syndrome. Then the guys talking about sharing her made it sound like she’s a toy. Our heroine is a virgin and has had no experience with relationships, interactions with others, etc... I also felt no chemistry between the characters except maybe with August one of the Fae men. Last, I started this thinking it would be a three book series, but it turns out to be nine books. I can’t see this series going that long.

Bones Novella 'Captive of Wolves'
Whitt’s Thoughts.

It was ok.

Feral Blood

Feral Blood is book two in the Bound to the Fae series by Eva Chase.

We pick up after book one and not a lot happens. Things just move along and basically the first part is a summary of the main events in Captive of Wolves.

With the plot we get multiple conflicts with barely any tension. We have the Fae war, the issue with Talia’s previous captures, and then her relationship with the Fae men who rescued her.

Things just move slowly like they drag on or it felt that way to me. As for the conflicts when they do solve things it feels too easily done. We also have lots of time jumps that felt awkward. Last, Talia losses her virginity in this one.

As for the romance it’s blaze-a. The sex scenes feel steamy, but also didn’t feel real. I was wondering on some of the positions and how that could work out. The sexy times are very limited and I really wanted more. Last, I’m still not feeling any chemistry. Talia is just too young for me to feel that the relationships will work.

The one thing I do find interesting is; what is Talia? Everyone says human, but her blood helps them and she can do magic. That’s something I’m curious about, but not enough to continue reading.

Rated: 2 Stars

Bonus Novella 'Feral Bound'
Featuring August's feelings the morning after.

I didn’t gain any insight into August. It felt word for word just changing the POV in the story around to him instead of Talia.

Overall I enjoy reverse harems, but Bound to the Fae series isn’t for me. I’m going to DNF at 69% the start of book three Kings of Moonlight. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

DNF: 69%

This is my first real book review so bear with me, please.

I'm going to leave a review now and edit as I finish this volume of 3 and start the next volume of 3.

Let me start my prefacing this review with a a personal anecdote.... I am a person who lives with ADHD and aphantasia. Being unable to really visualize the what the author wants me to see AND having an insanely short attention span it makes it's really hard for me to get lost in a book the same way your typical reader might. The author has to pretty much grip me by the collar on page 1 and not let go until the book is over if I have any chance of even making it halfway through the book.
On top of that I'm a slow reader. Because I can't visualize or my mind wanders from time to time it makes it harder for me to understand what I've read sometimes.

Now, on with my review.

When I say this story had me sucked in on the first page.... MAN!!!! With me being a slow reader I have NEVER read a whole novel in a day in my life. When I picked up Bound to the Fae, volume 1 I burned through all of book 1 and 2/3rds of book 2 in a day! I couldn't put it down. When I did have to put it down I couldn't get through my tasks fast enough so I could sit down and take in more of the story.

The story moves quickly enough and didn't go stagnant for me until about 80% of the way through the whole volume. Now I'm just stalled out. I haven't picked it up in a couple days but I'm going to pick it up and trudge the rest of the way through.

As far as heat? the spice level does leave something to be desired. I'm kind of getting a white woman's chicken vibes... Little to no seasoning. There are a couple scenes sprinkled in but not near as much as what I was hoping for when I immediately jumped off TikTok and on to KU to get read it. There was is one line however, that will live in my head rent free for the rest on my life...
"I believe she's ready for you, my lord"
my panties were ON FIRE!!! (My husband was quite appreciative of that one scene that night.)

Usually I read a box set like this over 2-3 days but this box set took me 10 days to read. One of the reasons I think , is because of the style of writing.

Now, I understand how the Fae people talk, they basically live in medieval times and use their magic affinities to live their lives. However what irked me was that Talia also spoke in this same way. She used all of the fae syntax and their way of speaking. They speak very formally and much like Lords and Ladies and Royalty yet Talia was taken when she was 12, she would have had her own way of speaking and her natural spoken language would already have been fixed to her, even if she didn’t communicate for almost 10 years with anyone.

I did feel like this book drug on, that although there wasn’t any actual repetitiveness, I still felt like I was reading the same scenarios over and over again.

The author does a good job of world building and even character building. I appreciated the fact that this author hasn’t been scared to kill off certain characters either. Usually no one will take the leap to kill off someone who has been a vital part of the story so props to the writer.

I feel that some of the ‘red herrings’ thrown in were just too obvious.

The spice/heat was extremely lacking, there were about 3 scenes in total over these 3 books, and honestly they weren’t panty drenching. It was just typical run of the mill smut scenes. They were ok but I wanted more especially with more than one of them at a time.

I am kind of annoyed with the ending of this book, that suddenly she’s got a ‘soul twinned’ mate yet throughout these 3 books they’ve constantly said she is a full blooded human (with some Fae ancestors). I don’t know if I have the energy to read another 6 books to understand why he blood works to cure the summer faes curse.

Can someone just private message me and tell me why Talia’s blood is so special, how she can wield magic and how she has a soul twinned mate as she is human? I’m just exhausted to these characters and this story. Honestly, 9 books is a lot and there was a lot just in these 3 books that could have been condensed to one and a half books. I have a feeling that at some point Talia will also get a ‘mate’ from The Murk rats as well because it’s just bloody obvious at this point.

I wonder if this author writes all her stories in this manner, or if she writes more contemporary in her other stories? I don’t think this is the author for me

I had to DNF after the first book... two stars because I was so into the beginning and then there was no buildup or slow burn, it was sudden and boring. I was so hoping this would capture me... but it fizzled....

Absolutely love it

This is the story of Talia and her men. First off I love box sets, because you don't have to wait to see what happens next because it's right there for you.
This world will draw you in and not let you go. So much happens that you will not be able to stop reading or listening to it. I did both. The narrators are amazing

+1 star to Eva Chase for killing off the toxic male before the fmc forgives him and he joins the harem

If you like books by Eva Chase or this genre, you will probably enjoy this book. This is a 9 book series. I'm not sure if I will continue the other 6 since its fairly generic imo.

Overall; 2.5/5 stars. I like Eva Chase's writing and she is definitely a 'show not tell' author. However, I'm just not a huge fan of the fmc and find her character inconsistent. She is irrationally selfless, but has a harem, and it felt like she was given a traumatic past to offset how much everything just happens to work out for her.

DNF 30%. Just meh really. The type of book you leisurely read in between books that actually have your full attention. The male love interests all are a bit bland and I found myself forgetting what each one looks like and having to go back to their first description. The main FC is a bit hit and miss, 9 years trapped and the resulting PTSD is well written but she also makes stupid decisions like going against strong advice to stay hidden, sneaking out to listen into whatever they're saying when the stakes are too high if she's discovered.

There are hints of something the pack did which resulted in their fall from grace but in the 232 pages I read, thesw are only teases which is partly why I gave up. We don't get to any idea why her blood is special or what happened in the pack's past which spices up the otherwise boring plot. These may have been enough to keep me interested but they're only ever teased at and the fact that there are like 6 more books just isn't worth continuing to find out these answers or keep reading knowing more things must happen.

As other people have mentioned, she gets kidnapped at 12 and is freed at maybe 19-20, so she's missed out on a lot of development but is almost immediately jumping into romantic relationships. I kinda wished there had been more focus on her seducing Sylas to stay protected since she's spent years in fight and flight mode which would add another layer of development to her but instead within a few lines she's assured she's safe with him. Focus on her realising she's safe and learning/developing in the years she lost would have been more interesting and also allowed her to more naturally fall for the other man around her. For how much I read I felt like no one had developed much, pacing was slow and I am not interested in reading the next 6+ books when no characters grabbed my interest enough to struggle through the boring waffle.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This book is.. difficult to review. It's enjoyable and fun and the smut is nice enough, but it reads so much like Stockholm Syndrome it makes me uncomfortable. This girl has spent a decade in captivity, never knowing more than the cage she was kept in. She doesn't even know basic stuff like how her own period works. Yet she's engaging in romantic and sexual acts with these men who basically kidnapped her just because they show her kindness. She spends barely a month with them before she declares that she loves them. It's just... a bit much? Like girl, slow down, you barely know your own body, never mind your own feelings. Also, so much is never really properly explained. Why can she use magic despite being human, why is her blood special, etc. Not gonna lie, despite all of that, I really enjoyed it, I liked all the characters, the world, the magic, the romantic development between them. If it weren't for the uncomfortable feeling I would probably give it 4 stars, but the undercurrent is bothersome enough that I'm dropping it down to 3. The fact that all the men have the same narrator made the different POVs a little difficult to follow. The audiobook narrators did a great job though.

3.5⭐️’s — while I appreciate this author’s masterful scene and backstory abilities, and truth be told storytelling abilities, I have to admit this is WAY TOO EFFING LONG to FINALLY get to something more action packed than ****spoiler but not spoiler**** than the FMC finally losing her v-card.

Keep in mind, I’m listening via audiobook and if you don’t listen at the 1.35x speed like the psycho I am, THIS SHIT IS 30h 10m!!! All for the FMC to get laid and finally confront the antagonist within the last 30 mins… with a cliffy?! 😫🤬

Granted, the writing was great, story was great, background and character development was great…. But… 30+ hours to get there?!

I’m kinda debating whether to continue or not…

because while this series is grouped into sections (on audible)/chunks of multiple books, if I wanted to finish the series, I’d end up spending more money and over 53 hours of hypothetical normal speed listening time to complete the series. I’m not sure if I want to invest more time than I do at work every week, to complete the series.

I reserve the right to chafe my mind at a future date, but for now, I’ll consider this series as a DNF.

DNF - 11%

I have been trying to persevere with this book, but there are so many unanswered questions so early on that could have been explained. It's a bit frustrating and makes it hard to concentrate on the story at hand.

Unfortunately the story that has been told is not enough to hold me to find out the rest.

I honestly didn't think I was going to continue this series, not because it was bad but just because it hadn't captured my interested completely. But Eva Chase has mastered the art of a good cliffhanger and now I feel I must read on!

Slow burn, but epic read! The story seems to be slowly paced and yet somehow I found myself craving more. Amazing character development for the FMC and descent character development of the MMCs. Great world building that sets the reader up for the remaining books in the series. The romance portion is fairly slow burn, but sweet and strong once it happens. The author does a great job of navigating the internal thoughts of sharing among members of the cadre and the conflicted interest the FMC has with each of them. There are a few good reveals and a big cliffhanger at the end.

Captive of Wolves
Entertaining story of a human girl, now woman, who was kidnapped by evil fae (whom she invariably calls fairies) to harvest her blood which has the capability to keep them from forcibly shifting into wolves when the moon is full. That reminds me, are regular old magic-wielding fae no longer sufficient for readers? One series I read had them knotting like dogs when they had sex and this group can turn into wolves like shifters. Are there no boundaries? Yeah, yeah, fiction. I know.

I had to put down my book in disgust last night when Talia decided she had to know what was going on/being said so snuck out of her room to eavesdrop. Females who insist on participating in events where they have no business drive me nuts (I know there are male characters who also do this but women are the culprits in the majority of what I read) She could have imperiled not only herself but the entire pack. Anyway, I resumed reading this morning and she did redeem herself somewhat.

I admire her manipulation of Sylas and August. Speaking of Sylas - wow, just wow. For so many reasons. The others aren’t too shabby either.

Of course all stupid moves by Talia work out in the end. The bonus chapter shows the final fae holdout more or less succumbing to her feminine wiles.

Feral Blood
August and Talia are having a moment when he declines to go "all the way" because he can tell she is fertile. I can appreciate not wanting her to get pregnant but what if her offspring also had magic blood? Wouldn’t that be a blessing?

These three fae are half-brothers due to having the same father/different mothers. August tells a story that proves that this father was one mean SOB. How did all three of these sons manage to be so compassionate with his DNA and him as a role model?

Sylas and his cadre decide it would be a swell idea to invite the fae that had captured and tortured Talia to dinner. This will supposedly disarm the evil faes' suspicion that Sylas' pack is harboring the escaped captive. They glamour Talia and have her attend the meal to reassure the bad guys that she is not the missing woman. She someone manages to not fuck up.

Question: Would the curse work if the fae happened to be on the mortal's side of the Mists during a full moon? Talia was taken by Aerik and his wolves so I guess maybe magic will work there. While I’m on the topic, who cursed the Seelie, when and why? Has it been in place their whole lives?

Whitt performs well beyond all expectations in helping Talia with a somewhat embarrassing problem.

Talia referring to Sylas and August as her "lovers” when they haven’t actually done the deed doesn’t ring true for me. However, she does appear to be starting out with a twofer so what do I know?

Kings of Moonlight
Sylas and his cadre wonder what benefit would be achieved by having objects stolen from their keep. My first thought is that Ambrose could use it as evidence that Talia can’t be safe and secure with them since they can’t even prevent theft.* I also suspect Namior's family may have released some Murk rats inside of Hearthshire.

Sylas has reflected more than once on what a treasure Talia is. I may be wrong but I think that most supernaturals are so vile that any normal human with an ounce of compassion would seem as benevolent as Mother Teresa to them.

Does sleeping with the boss really qualify Talia to be lady of the manor?

Their fortunes change dramatically and there is a surprising revelation at the end when the Unseelie come to parlay.

*Later it’s discovered that something of Ambrose’s has also been squirreled away, probably to discredit Donovan so he’ll agree to have Talia turned over to Tristan.

I read two out of the three novels in this bundle and could not bring myself to finish the last book.
Spoilers follow:
I had issues with the main character: how can someone be captured at the age of twelve and then spend nine years in captivity and not have the mentality of a teenager? I had that question early on and it was never tackled with by the author, she went on to have the character heal physically but did not really show how she would have had to grow emotionally, cognitively. What a twelve year old girl knows about life, love, sex, the world is far more limited and different to what a 21 year old knows. The fact that this was never addressed was a big bug bear for me.
I stopped reading the novels after the scene in the third book where the fae take Talia to the banquet and she gets jealous watching them interact with other women. I have read other reverse harem stories before where the sexual/romantic entanglements made sense. But it irritated me that Talia demanded monogamy from the three fae while she was allowed all the freedom she wanted to experiment and sleep with anyone she chose. Not my idea of fair.
I appreciate all the work the author put into making Talia's relationship with these three men special and unique, though being with Whitt felt very much like an afterthought.

I read all of these books as an advanced reader. My reviews are voluntary.

Captive of Wolves

Oh boy, a fantastic start to a new series. Talia is a human who was stolen by wolves and brought to live in a cage - somewhere. As she was unconscious when she was put in the cage she has no idea where she is or why three inhuman beings show up to take her blood. Most of the rest of the time they ignore her, except to feed her just enough to keep her alive. One night she has finally figured out how to get out of her cage and suddenly strangers show up in the room where she is kept. They are looking for something and happen upon her by accident. Emaciated, naked, and crippled she is no match for them and she is once again taken. It seems that she was what they were looking for. This time though, she wakes up in a real bed and is allowed to eat as much as she wants. She soon finds out that she is just as much a prisoner as she was before.

Sylas and his cadre have come looking for the secret to the elixir that another group of Fae is selling. It seems to be a remedy for the full-moon wildness that has been taking over the fae for some time now. Nobody knows why they suddenly started turning into wild beings on the full moon when before they shifted only when they desired to, but the elixir stops the change in its tracks. As outcasts, their clan does not often get to use the elixir. This captive human they have found in the stronghold of Aerik's pack smells just like the potion and Sylas has no qualms about taking her back to his village. Aerik should have treated her like something special, which she is, instead of like an unwanted prisoner.

Of course, trouble will follow the wolves as they try to decide what to do with her. They can turn her over to the arch-lords and perhaps gain back some of their lost honor. They can keep her hidden and try to figure out what it is about her blood that stops the curse in its tracks. They can let her return to the human realm, though that will just mean that Aerik tracks her down and takes her again. The one thing they did not take into consideration was Talia herself and how she would call to them as a person.

I won't spoil the story for you. Lots of world-building in this one and also character building. You will love meeting Sylas, August, and Whitt. Kellan - not so much. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Feral Blood

Lots happening in the second book of the series. Talia, August, and Sylas grow closer. Talia becomes more integrated into the pack and starts to make friends. As the war on the border continues, the pack struggles to maintain their contributions to the cause. They have a small number of capable fighters and some must be held back to patrol their own territory. Cole, one of the wolves who kidnapped Talia, has been seen in the area and she must stick close to home. When Sylas decides he and his cadre need to venture to the front to see what is happening for themselves, Talia insists on going along. Let's just say things are going to go as expected and Talia will end up completely exposed to the wrong fae.

I am not going to ruin the story for you. Whitt and Talia will grow closer - so stand by. Sylas and his pack will finally get a chance to redeem themselves, but will Talia's freedom be the price they pay?

Kings of Midnight

Lots happening in the third book of the series. Talia and the pack are working to settle themselves into Hearthshire, but the threats to her freedom are still substantial. The arch-lord Ambrose is still determined to get her under his thumb and he will stop at nothing. When it becomes obvious that
Ambrose plans to force a war with the Unseelie by targeting another of the arch-lords, Talia, Sylas, Whitt, and August must find a way to stop him without getting the pack banished again, or worse.

Quite a surprise or two at the end of this one. It will make you say, "No way!" (Then you will curse cos you have to wait for the next book. Lol.)

he’s hugging me to him so tightly you’d think he’s afraid to let me go.

Wolves of Summer is a collection of the first three books in this series and has been on my TBR for a little while, but another one of those infamous Insta reels with a single quote got me and I started reading it immediately. I was not disappointed. Was it perfect? No. Did I enjoy myself all 976 pages? Very much so, yes. Oh, and I'm in love with August, the sweet boy.

“Don’t you ever hurt yourself like that again,” he growls, his dark eye blazing, his arms wrapping tight around me. I think I feel a tremor of his own ripple through them. “I will never put you in a situation where death is your best option. I swear it by the Heart.”

“He hurt Talia,” I say, because if I’m going to be shamed, Kellan is owed at least as much. “Kicked her crutch away so she’d fall. I was—” “Defending her?” Sylas fills in with a dark rumble in his voice. He tips his head toward the stairs. “It doesn’t appear she’s appreciated your attempt all that much.”

The story is fantasy and holds aspects such as the Otherworld, fae that can shift, and courts. It's both a rescuer as a captive-captor romance and is RH. Now, for an RH it does hold little spice and it's definitely not the focus of the story. I personally loved that the story focused equally on the worldbuilding, plot, and personal development next to the romance. The FMC her healing journey is also very beautiful to follow and the disability rep with her foot is also well done.

There are as many deadly things here as beautiful things, and quite a few are both.

Even though there is a lot going on, the tension isn't necessarily always there but somehow, that didn't make me less enthralled by the story. A lot of decisions are in the end very level-headed, and not sudden emotion-fueled plot twists. Making it a more adult, level-headed read (for the most part). Ended on a cliffhanger so onto the next we go.

“I like you just fine, little scrap. But I don’t think this is about liking. Your fate doesn’t depend on you submitting yourself to my whims—is that understood? I’ll do as right as I can by you regardless of whether you warm my bed, and I always intended to do so.”

“If you’re not afraid of getting your ass whooped by a human girl.” Sylas glowers at him but without any real rancor. “I don’t know about her, but you can count on being thoroughly whooped yourself.”

Final note; even though I wouldn't consider this a dark romance, it does have some triggers mainly in memories she has, so I do advise to check those before you start reading.

Audio book review

Book 1 in the series.
Wow Eva always writes heart stopping, mind gripping stories. This one is no different. What I like about this one is it’s a bit different then a normal reverse harem.
