Mindy Long left her painful past behind and is determined to create a new life for herself. All she wants is to grow a successful business and provide a stable, loving home for her nephew. But when she’s kidnapped, Mindy realizes she’ll have to defeat a deadly enemy from her past to be truly free. To accomplish that, she needs the help of a cop with lethal skills.
Despite more than a decade apart, Deputy Levi Montgomery never forgot the woman who stole his heart as a teenager. Now that she’s back in his life, he’ll stop at nothing to win her heart. But when a desperate adversary targets Mindy and her nephew, Levi will break every rule to protect them. His new mission: save his family by any means necessary.
I've been wanting to get my hands on Mindy's story since she was introduced in Conspiracy. To say she's had a hard life is an extreme understatement. And to say her father and brother were absolutely horrible would be another extreme understatement. Mindy has got to be one of the strongest heroines I've read in a long time.
Mindy and Levi were high school sweethearts. but their relationship came to an abrupt halt when her father upped and moved their family out of town without a trace. Fast forward several years, and Fate has brought them back together. Life is far from sunshine and roses for both of them. Neither of them forgot the other and now the only question is, will their past tear them apart or bring them closer than ever?
Y'all. I'm not gong to lie. I find it harder to review a favorite author's book when it was good, but not great. There were a few things that kept it from being great for me. The first would be Roman. He's only 5 years old, but the way he spoke was well beyond his years. I struggled with trying to suspend belief but I just couldn't do it. The next would be inconsistencies and grammatical errors. I really crave immersing myself into all the books I read but these kinds of errors take away from the story. They should have been caught by alpha/beta readers and/or editors.
With that being said, I still enjoyed Mindy and Levi's story. It was fun watching their relationship develop and getting their long awaited HEA. The addition of Roman made it even better. It was also fun catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. I have to admit, I'm a bit nervous for the new team. Not sure why but I am. Haha. I'm looking forward to getting to know them better.
The thing about this author and her books is that you know exactly what you are getting. That can be good and not so good. Good because when I'm in the mood for these type of characters, I know exactly where to go. Not so good because, well, sometimes, they all start sounding the same.
I had some minor issues this time around with the 5 year old and the way he spoke, some editing mistakes and such. It was enough to distract me from the groove of the story.
But, as per usual, the energy of the storyline was good. The build up of tension with a climactic ending was good. The feeling of family and community was definitely there. It's always satisfying when the good guys win.
Content: peril, violence, mention of physical abuse. Kissing.
I really love romantic suspense, and have read all of the previous books by this author. This one definitely had both romance and suspense, but it felt a bit long and drawn out. There were parts that bugged me (a lot of repetitive language from previous books in all of the series), but there were parts that stole my heart as well- Roman is definitely my favorite part of the entire story! Not just because he is a cute kid, but having dealt with kids from trauma myself, his actions and words felt true to how kids from trauma and abuse would react. Overall a good story, looking forward to more, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about a new team mentioned in this one, but excited for something different!
The penultimate Montgomery brother finally gets his girl....he has waited a decade for her and will now have to fight to the death to keep her and Roman. He will, firstly because it's what he and his brothers do for innocents but more importantly because she is his....his to love, his to protect, his to cherish......his everything! Roman slays me every time he speaks in this book, he brought me to tears more than once, he is such an awesome kid but so very traumatised having experienced things no human should. The love, understanding, encouragement and care he is given at M Ranch is heartwarming and will bring a tear to the eye too. I am so glad that Levi and Mindy get their second chance, they were ripped apart before but this time they are older, wiser, stronger and have all the Montgomery brothers and Fortress behind them. An unstoppable force for an unbreakable love. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I always enjoy Rebecca Week's books! I love the way her heros are always gentlemen and then the women are true ladies. Looking forward to every new one. Don't stop writing, Rebecca!
This is another very enjoyable book in this series. I love the strong, loyal, loving characters and the way Rebecca Deel always pulls us right into the action. The suspense and the clean romance have a happy ending - a must for me! Great!
