Feared by Monsters

Rate this book
These monsters want to break me, but I’m going to tame them.

As if losing my pet hamster wasn’t bad enough, the shadowkind monster I not-so-accidentally killed two weeks ago comes back from the dead and kidnaps me to the dark, twisted void where he and his two brothers live.

Void, Sanguine, and Mav want to break me by any means necessary—love, hate, pleasure, or pain. But what these alphaholes don’t realise is my mind snapped years ago, and no amount of torture, tentacles, or mind games is going to break me.

They might be nine feet tall with horns, extra long tongues, and killer d*ck, but I’m five-foot-two of trauma-fuelled insanity.

And maybe that’s exactly what they need after years of their own suffering.

Feared by Monsters is a paranormal romance with obsessive psycho monsters, a soft, vulnerable FMC with secret stabby tendencies, and dark, twisted romance. Protective madmen, deadly monsters that scare even other monsters, unique equipment, and panty-melting steam await in this stand alone novel.

For a standalone RH read I really enjoyed this book. The book is a bit overloaded with monster sex and could use some more depth such as with the characters backgrounds and histories but other than that it was a good read. Heroine Hala hunts monsters but not because she wants to, more because it’s all she knows and she needs the power from the kill. After killing a monster in an alley Hala unknowingly catches the attention of three Void monsters who want answers from her and are not above a little torture to get their way. I kinda loved Hala because she was such an oddball. Sure she’s practically desperate for love but she also deserves it after 30 odd years of hell. The book takes place over only a few days I believe, so everything does move kinda fast, but it worked.

Meh

The story held promise. I’m sure there was a trigger warning at the front but I think I missed it. It took me 3 tries to get past the first few chapters. I dunno, it just kinda gutted me. The writing is intense, and so descriptive it gave me anxiety. I could feel the panicky emotions of the female characters point of view. I felt like there could have been a bit more to her and her story to make it a 5 star. There was a lot of memories of being brutalized as a tiny child. It kinda got to me. I just couldn’t enjoy it to the max. Killing a stranger because she was told they were bad, but not realizing she was trained by the worst monsters of them all. She should have thought of that but didn’t come to the conclusion until about 3 quarters of the book. Also, her monsters did not leave to protect other shadowkind even though their barriers broke, and the pub was demolished by the Keepers. It just seemed a bit odd. The fight scene was great! The lead character charges in to win the fight only to get knocked down again and again, she keeps pushing to keep them safe only to get knocked down again and again only to find a bit more strength to get back up harder than before. When she’s thinking about quitting, she remembers her friend’s encouraging words from her memories, so she always gets back up and comes back for more.
After everything she went through, her memories of him, finding out he was turned into a mindless weapon then seeing him be killed. With Him not coming back, ruined the book for me. The female didn’t have enough positives to counteract the the negatives for me to fully enjoy reading the book. I really hoped it would end with them all together. Wish I could give it more stars but I think 3 stars is fair.

Feared by Monsters was such a fun monster romance read! What’s a little bit of murd3r and light t0rture between future mates, right?

As a monster fan, I was extremely appreciative of the three different monster types and their unique… attributes. Each one has talented and unique tongues, and more. Mav, with his four tentacles and large, undulating member. Sang, with sensitive horns, aphrodisiac saliva, and a peen with moving knubs. And Void, who takes size difference to a whole new level. The spice level is high and perfect for monster lovers, with very descriptive usage of the fun appendages.

The characters themselves are great. I love Hala. She is funny - the footnotes make the book; read them! She has magic that she can only use when she focuses on her past trauma and abuse, and she is strong (if a bit lonely). She is not broken from the abuse, but she is far from whole. The monsters help complete her. Not scary at all, not as she was trained to believe.

I recommend this book if you liked Leigh Kelsey’s Rebels and Psychos duet. It’s lighter in tone, but Hala has the same bad@ss and snarky attitude as Graves.

Wait wait wait wait. The author seriously finished the book without giving as a full scene between Hala and Void??? That's honestly some bullshit. This would have been a 5 star rating, but nah. I was eagerly flipping pages for Void and Hala to FINALLY have sex and the book ends.

I liked the monsters

If you like victims, ones that stay victims through the whole story, and are contradictory as all hell. This might be for you. The main characters supposed to be a monster hunter and completely badass but she has crippling anxiety and panic attacks and is terrified of monsters, scared of fighting, scared of people, scared of just about everything to the point of calling it terror. She's supposed to be a heroin feared by monsters but she's absolutely terrified of everything and every time she gets in a fight she starts to panic and back away and just say please please please over and over again. With a few sorry's and no's thrown in to spice it up. So she automatically loses every single fight that she starts or gets into. It's disgusting and absurd and absolutely contradictory to the description of her character. The whole thing is just so infuriating. I've heard of people having a begging kink and like to hear the word please so I think maybe this was made for them but it's just a bit absurd. It's like the only word she knows, combined with the crippling anxiety, panic attacks, and being terrified of her own shadow it just doesn't make sense that she's been supposedly fighting huge scary monsters since she was literally a toddler. The fact that she's terrified of weapons and pain and mean words is also infuriating because she's supposedly has been tortured her entire life since she was a baby. It's just so contradictory and makes no effing sense. The male monster characters are super sweet and interesting and I totally love the one that's got the obsessive crazy personality so I kept reading and I kept wanting to like it wanting her to get over her panic attacks or just get better with putting memories from years and years and years ago behind her anything to show that she's strong winning one fight even I just kept rooting for this story for this character but it's like it was just made for some sort of kink that I don't have. I just don't understand why they couldn't have made the weak character be a weak character why they're trying to sell her as this super strong warrior with no power that's terrified of fighting even though she's in her thirties and has been fighting and being tortured her whole life yet she can't take any kind of pain and it's terrified of fighting scared to the point of begging and pleading with anybody who even gives her a dirty look. So ridiculous and so infuriating.

Leigh Kelsey's latest book, Feared By Monsters, has everything I would have expected from a Leigh Monster romance. A fmc with killer instincts, a group of psycho but loving guys, high steam, and a crazy but entertaining plot.

Talk about complex fmc, Hala seems to be one of the sweetest people but she's also a little bit crazy and has a compulsion to kill even if she feels bad about it. The idea of a sweet killer is odd but kinda works for Hala, she's the way she is because of her training and a lifetime of emotional and physical trauma. I can see how Hala could have been if circumstances were different because even after all that she's been through she still has a sweet disposition (still a little crazy) and there's also an innocence that most would expect from a trained killer.

This wasn't an instalove situation, there was miscommunication, stabbing, and deaths but things get worked out. The guys are scary af but there is a connection, and a vibe, and things get hot. Void is stoic but shows he cares in his own way, a protectiveness, Maverick "Mav" is an average guy, and Sanguine "Sang" is the playful manic. Sang is the craziest, I love him and want to protect him. This group has a unique chemistry and the intimate scenes are some of the steamiest.

There were a lot of great aspects to this plot. The different types of shadowkind, monsters from the Void. The Void itself, from the glimpse I got, was good but I would've liked to know more. Then there's the strange background of the organization that trains assassins from youth. It was like a cult, brainwashing, and abuse, the whole ten yards. I have so many questions about that place. Then there was the emotional aspect, Hala was dealing with PTSD and was repeatedly triggered, having flashbacks, trying to cope with what she had been through. The guys help her, using reaffirmations and communicating how they feel, showing her how they care.

Feared By Monsters was quirky in a good way. The story was exciting but also had intense emotional moments and a complete story all in one book. This world has me curious and I would happily jump back into it if Leigh decides to write another book set in this world.

You know when children grow up in an abusive or negligent household and people are always surprised that the kids turned out ok despite that? But underneath everything the person is actually hiding that they are torn up inside from all the trauma but continues their day to day life because what else is there to do? Yes, this is Hala to a T. I wouldn't say her situation is exactly this because I wouldn't really consider growing up being tested on and tormented after every failure to be a great definition of family, but the idea is still the same. From the day she was born, Hala was tested on, tortured, trained, and not even treated like a human being. After all of that, of course she is going to have some issues, mental and emotional. But the amazing thing is, despite considering herself broken, she has such an amazing heart and is unbelievably sweet.

Even her monsters aren't what you'd typically think monsters to be--evil, wrathful, bloodthirsty. OK, they are that sometimes, but it isn't their default setting. There is so much more to them than murder and mayhem like Hala had been taught her entire life. When going to the Void, Hala discovered them to be civilized, having regular lives similar to how humans would live. The only time her monsters are really out for blood is when they are protecting and exacting revenge for the people they care about. Other than that, they are pretty close to humans in their mannerisms and actions. It was interesting to see them be so different from what the world believed them to be.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. I love it when something or someone is trained and built up to be a weapon to be controlled and then does an uno reverse on the people who were calling on the shots. It's very satisfying seeing people get their comeuppance. The villains in this book were even worthy opponents, making it that much better, knowing that they knew all the right moves, knew the weaknesses of their opponent, and put their full effort into everything just to be proven how well they actually made their weapon, giving the readers such a gratifying ending.

Hala's day went from bad to worse. After doing her job of riding the world of a shadowkind monster Hala tried to live each day as normal as possible, that is until the same monster resurfaces 2 weeks later and kidnaps her.

Void, Sang and Mav wants to torture and break Hala for killing Mav a few weeks ago and because they need answers regarding Mav's missing brother Vann.

Void, Sang and Mav's plans were quickly derailed when they realized that Hala was a tortured and broken soul just like them but her fun personality, witty banter and sweet demeanor drew them in like flies to honey.

Hala was on the run from the "Keepers" the group of monster killers controlled by her grandmother who tortured and trained her into being the ruthless monster assassin she was. Growing up with no one to love her, hug her or protect her, the only thing Hala knew how to do was kill. She didn't find love and acceptance until she was abducted by Void, Sang and Mav. 3 Alphaholes who claimed Hala as their mate and showed her love and protection that she's always craved.

This story had a lot of steam, laughs and plot twists and swoonworthy monsters who were possessive and protective of their human mate and vowing to keep her and never let her go.

"Feared by Monsters" by Leigh Kelsey is a captivating and thrilling novel that delves deep into the realm of the supernatural. Kelsey's ability to create a rich and immersive world is truly commendable. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.

The story seamlessly weaves elements of horror, mystery, and the supernatural, making it a must-read for fans of these genres. Kelsey's writing style is engaging, and she masterfully builds tension throughout the book. The pacing is spot-on, ensuring that you're never left wanting for more action or intrigue.

What sets "Feared by Monsters" apart is its ability to explore complex human emotions in the face of the unknown. The characters' struggles with fear, bravery, and the supernatural elements make the story both relatable and fantastical.

In conclusion, "Feared by Monsters" is a compelling and thought-provoking read that will appeal to a wide range of readers. It's a testament to Leigh Kelsey's storytelling prowess, and I eagerly anticipate more of her work in the future. If you're a fan of supernatural fiction, this book should definitely be on your reading list.

"I don't understand why you'd do this for me. Don't you want a human who's not..." I flapped my hands. "Broken?" A furrow creased Sang's brow between sad yellow eyes. "No. Why would I want a boring, unbroken human? You're all cracked and jagged like me."

"Feared By Monsters" has everything readers with a love for the monster trope might be looking for: spice, interesting appendages, morally grey characters, fascinating world building and one woman who loves it all.

The author created an interesting world where this story takes place, and I enjoyed the world building a lot. It was fascinating and surprising, and I always like it when an author can create a world that feels entirely new. Looking at the characters I have to admit that, once again, the psycho male is my absolute favorite character; I adored Sang and his protectiveness towards the woman he claims as his. Some of the things he says are so unhinged they become really funny.

This is definitely a decent RH standalone, and one I can recommend to all the lovers of the spicy monster trope.

Smutty monster standalone!
This author has certainly found her niche in creating adorably 🔪🔪 FMC’s! And if this dedication doesn’t make you want to read it … I don’t know what will…
“Feared by Monsters is a paranormal romance with obsessive Pyscho monsters, a soft vulnerable FMC, with secret stabby tendencies, and dark twisted romance. Protective madmen, deadly monsters that scare even other monsters, unique equipment and p@nty-melting steam await in Thai standalone novel”!!
On the run from her past, a chance encounter with a monster which starts the whole ball rolling….😅
Taken back to the void Ha becomes the plaything of Mav, Sanguine and Void when they realise she may have the answers they need 😬 but wow the seggsual tension between all of them is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 they become utterly enthralled with Hala, Mac realises she’s the peace he needs, Sang is just an adorable fluffy killer, and Void wow the domineering leader 🥰
Can they look past their issues and pasts to come together and ace their world?!

Despite the dark undertones, Hala's torturous upbringing, the murder and mayhem, this was a monstrously fluffy read chock full of spice. Made all the better with the inclusion of the footnotes. Seriously, you do not want to miss them!

Lovable, morally grey psychos with bad intentions sweep in and relocate the FMC, Hala, to the Void.

Rendered helpless by her cracked and jagged edges, her loneliness and her tears, obsessions saturated with touch her and die vibes are thrice born.

Only she's no damsel in distress. She's a weapon with twisted urges of her own bundled up in a bumbling, eager to please, sassy package. And she's no slouch when it comes to protecting those who have shown her kindness; showered her with affection; she loves.

Ultimately, this is an emotionally charged, fast paced, paranormal reverse harem romance jam packed with action, characters you can't help but fall in love with, humour, fancy peens, and wicked tongues.

Let me just start off by saying that we definitely need more of the void universe!
Hala is a strong willed, don’t mess with me, kick butt heroine that you can’t help but grow to love. She almost immediately finds herself in a precarious situation that quite literally goes to h3ll in a hand basket.
Mav, Sang and Void are three monsters who torture her for information and a bit of revenge, but just like the reader can’t help but fall her Hala.
Mav, my favorite, is intense but it all the right ways. I love his violence and protectiveness but those tentacles? Dang! Now that’s some steam right there! Lol
Sang, sweet Sang, is completely unhinged in a DOV Diesel type of way but it’s so adorable! Btw, I need my own best after that. I’m so jealous!!!
Void is the silent and broody type but a complete softie inside!! Who knew he would be a huge teddy bear?!
Everyone’s personalities blend so well together in this perfect standalone. I’m only sad we don’t get more of them!

Feared by M0nsters just may become one of my top reads in the m0nster trope, it has everything you're looking for. Spectacular world building, a strong FMC, fun appendages 😉, 🌶 , and morally grey characters.

One of the best things about this book was how different this world was, and the world building that took place. I also loved the different m0nsters and their fun differences 😉 , and how their personalities also differed. The FMC Hala is a great character, she is strong but if she wants to use her magic she must focus on her past trauma and abuse. She isn't completely broken from what she's suffered but she's got a few broken pieces that her m0nsters will help her put together.

Whether you're wanting to dive into the m0nster world for the first time or an avid reader looking for a new story. This is perfect for you!

Supernatural, Trauma, Monsters in love, and a runaway hamster. Checked all the boxes I didn't know I had. Why Choose, Magic, Monster Loving, with a sprinkle of psycho on top. This was a piece of art.

And I wanted more.

It was a quick read and immediately intriguing. My only wish was that it was longer and that it would have taken more pages and time for everything to happen. I'm down for insta love and devotion and all that, and usually if it's a short story, you don't really need too much background anyway, but for this universe Leigh Kelsey made, I just wanted to keep reading it and reading it.

280 pages was enough for it to be good, lord knows I've read shorter, but with this universe I just wanted more to read about their daily lives, their pastimes, (what anime they were watching) and more suffering for the antagonists, stretched over a lot more pages . . . A simple request.

This was a good book for what it was.
The pros for me were the completely different personalities of the three monsters. I loved that Hala was able to take care of herself and that she was so focused on getting free for so long.
The steam was pretty good and the story line was good if not predictable.
the cons though...
Sang read to me like a immature teenager... I did not like at all. I just can't find someone who acts like a preteen sexy. IDK maybe it's just me.
I didn't like how the weapons all of a sudden decided to go to the void for Hala when she was up on earth realm for so long. I'm also not sure how Vann 2.0 really played a part besides the wow factor.
Void really made this book for me. I'll read stories about him all day long.

Feared by Monsters is a standalone book following Hala (FMC) who is a slightly crazy psycho thats a bit stab happy. Only you cant help but kinda like her at least i did. Shes a product of events that have happened to her in her life which leads her to being kidnapped by the very monsters that shes been programmed to hate. Void, Sanguine and Mav turn out to be unexpected. I liked their relationship with Hala. Sanguine being my favourite character. His lovable cuteness towards Hala was sweet even if he was as bloodthirsty as she was. This was a great read with characters i genuinely liked

A bucket full of murdery fun

Hala, a monster killer, has spent the past year running from being recaptured by the keepers that tormented her for most of her life. As the story progresses her murdery tendencies frequently surface, an unfortunate surprise has a purpose, and as she discovers the truth it makes her more nervous. Feared by Monsters is a bucket full of murdery fun for dark and twisted monster romance lovers. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

3⭐️2.3🌶️

This was a PRH that felt like a shorter version of Within Obsession and Lies and with waaay less character depth.

Tbh the book was totally predictable and the fighting at the end wasn’t really proportional for Hala’s development.

I wasn’t a fan of Hala as the FMC but I liked the different monsters each of the MMC were.

The book could definitely have more depth not only in the characters and relationships but also the plot.

And although the book wasn’t something super memorable it was enjoyable and entertaining book to read.

a must read

This is a new author to me, the cover and title catching my curious attention, and all I have to say is I absolutely love this story. It has sweetness, broken characters who need one another to heal, steam, and a rogue hamster. What can one person want? For me… another book because I really loved this world and wish to visit again. Read it. You’ll love it. I know I did.

Amazing

I love it this book as I do all the books by Leigh Kelsey. However I must say I feel robbed of a spicy scene with Void. But that is my only complaint. Other than that the storyline had everything I look for in a book and I was even crying at some points in the storyline. Which to me means that I have thoroughly entranced in the book as I was experiencing emotions based on the storyline.

As it turns out, Morally grey is my favorite color

What a great idea. I loved the story and character development, characters were true to their design and overall the spicy was fantastically spicyyy. Hala made a for a fabulous MFC and I was so thankful she was never played down as weak.

This book was so good I went ahead and bought others by the author before even finishing this one.

Good Read

I actually found myself enjoying this monster book I liked the 3 dark individual lead monster characters. I absolutely LOVED Sang. I also like female character The only thing that bothered me about the book was during our emotional high stakes end of fight scene you're taken from the moment and thrown into a flashback memory. It takes you from that adrenaline moment and drops you quickly. Didn't really care for that part. But other than I love book

Void and Sang are my favorite's but Mac is also pretty good. Jala is such a wierd mix of craziness and cuteness. We just want to hug her... Wich will get us killed.... Still super cute. The world building is very good and we get a lot of stabbing and death but also a lot of chemistry. Thee book is very interesting and easy to follow.

Wow, what a read. This book grabbed me and kept me reading till the very last page and there was no putting it down until the last page was read. It moves along at a great pace, has amazing characters that you will love and a story that will not disappoint. This book needs to be at the top of your TBR list, there is no doubt about it.
