AN AMISH OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND STORY

Amish of Prince Edward Island
Book 1: Building Her Amish Dream Book 2: Snowbound Amish Christmas
The beautiful cover of this book made me want to read it but sadly I wasn’t completely drawn into the story as I had hoped I would be. It was supposed to be a Christmas story as the title led me to believe but Christmas was only mentioned occasionally . The book didn’t seem realistic and I thought some of the things characters did was not very Amish. The adults seemed to have little authority over the kids. What Amish parent would have allowed a twelve year old boy to go out after dark to hang out with friends that the parent had never met. It’s not like a twelve year old would be on Rumspringa yet. This is only one example. The book was slow to get started and dragged in a lot in places. I wasn’t overly impressed with the characters. Mark Yutzy would be my favorite character because he was a hard worker but then the other characters seemed to criticize him for being the way he was. What was the main focus of the story ? Not really sure. Might have been letting go of the past and trusting God with the future.
Readers of Love Inspired books and Amish Fiction might enjoy this book.
Overcoming situations, especially those from our pasts, isn't always an easy task. Kirsten Petersheim and Mark Yutzy are no exception to this rule as they each struggle with the issue. Each of them find that relying on self or others is not the answer to overcoming. Being honest with oneself and one's limitations is key. However, trusting God and seeking His will and guidance is the real answer to letting go of the past, overcoming it's effects, and being able to fully trust God's plan.
As per the title, Snowbound Amish Christmas, one would expect that the theme of Christmas would be a major part of the story. However, it was not. Even so, I found the story to be an enjoyable read. I enjoyed learning about Prince Edward Island, which is something I know next to nothing about. I also found Mark Yutzy to be the most endearing of the characters with his work ethic and caring heart. More than anything, I especially enjoyed how the stoy drives home the theme of moving on from the past by trusting God and His will.
Book Quotes:
Watch what you say to others because wrong words linger longer than you might expect.
Show me how to hand control over to You, God. Show me the way to relinquish my need to manage everything...and live the life You've chosen for me.
I would recommend this book however if your looking for a really good Christmas story this is not the book for you as it doesn’t have a lot to do with Christmas, except a couple references. It’s. More a story I would say of coming of age and realizing what’s important, believing in your ability to move forward and coming to terms with your grief. I enjoyed the book, but it took a lot to get into it and at times seemed I was not read a realistic Amish fiction book, still it was an ok read and I will continue to read this authors books.
I bought this thinking it would be a really good book from what I read on the back and the beautiful cover . It was a very slow book hard to get into just back & forth about hardly anything . I usually have these Love Inspired book read in full in a day and or a day and half but it didn't hold my interest , it took me 3 days finish it .
I enjoyed getting to know Kirsten Petersheim, I sympathized with her heartbreak. The secondary characters were sometimes rather unlikeable which took away from the story. The story was good overall. It did drag a little in places, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I did enjoy the Christmas theme as well.
I liked the growth on the characters. You get to know and love them. We all need to rely more on God and give our will over to him. It's not the easiest thing to do but to be really happy it's something we need to do.
