In Imperiul Lidian a inceput atunci o nemiloasa vanatoare. Incepe o batalie epica intre stiinta si magie.
It has some WTF moments which get cleared out lately - to my relief -, and kept me invested in the story for the next. But I still don't like the graphics too much. If I were into coloring, I would buy one just to color it myself, and add a bit more life to the pages, lol.
The violence continues! Maybe I got used to it after volume 1, or maybe it's not as bad this time around (since the fighting was already in motion and there's nothing particularly new about it), but it's ok.
So. The planet has two types of people on it: humans, and witches. Witches are magical creatures, all female, who reproduce via witch trees, and who protect nature. For some reason, humans decided to do away with them - so they'd rely on them less...? I dunno, it doesn't make much sense (hopefully, it doesn't make much sense *yet*, and things will clear up eventually).
If in volume 1 we meet Adonis, a boy raised by a witch (Chloe) who learns to do magic by writing things out with a special feather-pen, and who was imprisoned for years in a human prison, in volume 2 we get to see the fallout of his escape and subsequent attack against the city, as well as find out more about the world.
Even if he starts strong, it becomes clear Adonis will lose his battle. Where all the witches in the world didn't succeed, neither will he - so he gets his head chopped off.
Just kidding! He's copied and replaced by witches, then taken to their special base *on the goddamned moon*, where he's told he can help bring Chloe back to life. The witch tree is just about to create a new witch, and he can imbue her with his memories of Chloe in a special ritual, therefore... reviving her? Duplicating her? This is weird.
But he's the only one who can do it, because Chloe was the only one who could create special feather-pens for humans to do magic with, so Adonis is the only human who can do this spell. I don't know how the witches even have a ritual for this thing, since it sounds like this is the first time any of this happened.
Adonis quickly figures out that they want Chloe in particular because they want to give some humans the ability to do magic, and their moon base must have humans on it for some purpose. It feels very shady, but he really wants Chloe back, so he agrees to help.
Except he changes his mind mid-ritual, because Chloe was very depressed - instead, he revives a cute witch who died in his arms back on earth.
There's potential in this story, both to become pretty good if it tones down and grows a bit of flesh on its bones, or to end up being nothing more than a mindless bloodfest if the world-building is used as a pretext for an all-out war in which people keep getting murdered and revived. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Content warnings: Gore, violence, public execution, internment camps, mass destruction
In Volume 2, it seems all is lost for Adonis, until he’s rescued by other witches planning a resistance…from their base on the moon. It is here he discovers a way to review Chloe using magic and his memories.
This series in two just volumes achieved big Code Geass energy in that you know the unexpected is going to happen, but in which direction, you have no idea!
The world-building continues to be great, the art gorgeous. I really loved the design and concepts upon the lunar base. Adonis is consistently angry and bitter, but he’s not impulsive and I think that’s what makes him so interesting. It’ll be good to see him interact with other characters in future volumes.
https://songedunenuitdete.com/2021/09...
Ack, the feels! The feels! I wanted so much for the Ice Witch, Chloe, to resurrect and become far more powerful than ever, but in that moment Adonis said, "The world is too bitter, and Chloe is too good," I knew he wouldn't use his magic to bring her back. I was practically sobbing at that point! That scene made me think of my little sister, who passed away more than twenty years ago. I'd do everything in my power to bring her back had I the magic to do so, but just like Chloe, my sister was too pure for this tainted world. She'd probably say, "Thank you," for me not bringing her back, like Chloe said to Adonis in their farewell till death words to each other. Okay, I'll admit it, I was crying then. It was beautiful Adonis brought Doroka back, and I can feel the potential of a continuing plot and the hope for a new romance to blossom. Yoruhashi, I love your work and can't wait to finish reading the rest of this series!

The art is gorgeous and the world’s combination of magic with modern technology is fascinating - but I’m not sure it’s enough to make me continue the series.
It suffers much in the same way the first volume did from a MC who is so savagely bent on revenge that he’s not particularly likable, and the harshness of the setting (and the characters that inhabit it) ensure that no one else is likable, either (or that, if they are, they die). It’s hard for me to enjoy a series where there’s no one to root for, regardless of how well-put together it is.
Still, for readers who enjoy this kind of story, it *is* well-done, so it still gets 4 stars. It’s just not for me.
Volume two is not as good as volume one. Warning, this a brutal and violent story. I understand the title now. I thought “kingdoms” was a typo, it is not.
