Halloween has come early in this steamy, friends to lovers, teacher/teacher romance filled with secret pining, fun hijinks, and quirky small-town feels.
Sabrina is no stranger to the Halloween pranks played around Grimsby, Indiana in the month of October. In fact, she is the recipient of nearly all of them. Usually, she would laugh it off and spend the rest of month looking over her shoulder anxiously awaiting the next scare. But not this year. She’s ready to fight prank with prank…starting with her best friend and Grimsby High’s favorite history teacher: Mr. October.
Bethany Weaver embarked on her writing journey way too early in life, penning alien smut that would make E.T. blush. Now, she dabbles in both contemporary and paranormal romances, keeping the literary scales perfectly aligned.
When she's not concocting love stories, you can find her being a mom of three, juggling the chaos. But that's not all—she's also the undisputed queen of literary badassery as the head honcho over at Weaver Literary.
Sometimes you just want a quick, feel-good snack of a story and this dual POV, small town, teacher/teacher romance completely fit the bill for me. I love a good friends to lovers, mutual pining story. Add in lots of Halloween pranks and a steamy scene and I'm sold. Much thanks to the author for an early digital copy of her new novella. I can't wait to see what's next from this to new to me indie romance author!
I did want to wait for October to start this but it was just staring at me in my kindle library sooooo. I have no regrets. This was so cute and it was such a fun read!! I loved it so much and now I want autumn even more.
Stop this is so cute. I’m not usually a friends to lover girly but I love this!! Literally from the prologue I was hooked. So many books market themselves as being cozy fall/halloween but this one actually is and I love it. For being a very short novella, I feel like this was super well written and such a fun read. Perfect for spooky season. My number one complaint is that it’s not long enough!!
This was cute and way too short but if my friends and colleagues thought it would be funny to prank me the entire month of October because they enjoyed seeing me scared....Well, the last ten pages of this novella would be me cussing these folks out and I'm not even joking.
For being a really short novella, I was quite surprised to actually quite enjoyed it! I liked the plot and characters, and that last chapter was hot! My only dislike was how Adam came out with questioning the relationship on the ferris wheel, seemed very juvenile..
This was a super quick, feel good read for fall. I just felt like something was missing and that the end wrapped up too quickly. I still thought it was super cute and a great novella option for someone who likes light and fluffy books for fall instead of dark. There’s a tiny bit of spice in the last chapter but nothing too crazy. The chapter art was super cute!

eu te amo, adam, e eu também te amo, brina. childhood to friends to lovers + it always been you = adam & sabrina!!! 🥹🩷🧸🎃
If you aren’t into the dark romances this Halloween, I highly recommend Mr. October. It’s a fun filled rom com with a tiny bit of spice.
This is a really short novella, but you get so pulled into the story with the pranks, friends to lovers/teacher and teacher relationship and the cozy Halloween vibes it brings.
Not only is the interior formatting so freaking cute! This little prank war that goes on is very entertaining. It’s not something I have personally read before and thought it was unique especially for the Halloween season. I really enjoyed Bethany Weaver’s writing and look forward to reading more from her!
super quick read (literally less than an hour) i didn’t realize how short this was when i started reading lol. this was a cute friends to lovers rom com but because it’s so short there’s just not much background on the main characters. i thought they were a little bland so i would’ve loved seeing more of them. some cute fall vibes
I think this book probably marks the end of my short books phase? Because yes, it only took me 20 minutes to read, but that was a very very painful 20 minutes Also my 50th book of the year isn’t that exciting
Don't be fooled by the cutesy cover, this one has some steam! 🔥
This was a very cute, wholesome, short story about Adam and Sabrina becoming friends to lovers. They are both teachers at the same school and harbour a crush on each other. One Halloween in midst of all the prank wars, this crush comes to light and they finally get together. I found myself really enjoying this and the spice was surprisingly quite good!
Re-read: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sabrina and Adam are still incredibly adorable, but the pranks are a bit ridonkulous tbh. I'll forever be a sucker for friends to lovers - there's also one smexy scene that did not disappoint.
First Read: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mr. October is a steamy, friends to lovers, teacher/teacher (short story) romance filled with secret pining, fun pranks, and quirky small-town Halloween vibes!
I rarely rate novella's more than 3 stars but my heart is just a complete sucker for a good friends to lovers romance :')
I just fell inlove with everything about this story! I adored Sabrina and Adam so so much! And their relationship, whether friendly or romantic, was just incredibly well written. Would i have liked that it was maybe a bit longer? Definitely. But their story is perfect just the way it is, and I'm still content, and absolutely still inlove
If the author can provoke these intense feelings from me with a 15k word novella, i simply, and certainly cannot wait to read her future novels!
I wanted to give this 2 stars. It’s just okay, I didn’t at all care about the characters but I didn’t hate it. But then the amount of grammatical and spelling errors in the end made me feel like the author didn’t even bother reading it over. Very clear mistakes like no space between two different words. Writing “me teeth” instead of “my”, and then the SMALLEST blurb for the acknowledgment wasn’t even edited? “While there will are no stories planned for Grimsby, Indiana, there are plenty of full length novels coming to you in 2023”. It feels sloppy and/or lazy and really bothers me. Hopefully the author realizes this and makes improvements to the full length novels.
Okay, so that was definitely beyond cheesy. The premise of the novella was solid, and I think it has the bones to become a really good story. But at only about 70 pages, it was obviously rushed and awkward.
Also, and maybe this is just because I’ve never been in this situation, but the idea that they both secretly liked each other for twenty years without either of them realizing it feels pretty unrealistic. I mean, twenty years is a long time…
I was looking for a quick fall read, and technically this was that. But it barely touched on any fall vibes, which was a bit disappointing.
