I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Bible this year. This version has equipped me and I have learned so much as I saw the redemptive thread all throughtout scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
I endeavored to read the Bible straight through, chronologically in the month of January. After research, I chose this version, and it was wonderful! I appreciated the transition notes from day to day and the three questions following each day of study. I highly recommend both this version of the Bible, and reading it straight through as you would any other book. It’s worth it to see the themes of scripture unfold.
Excellent for personal study. The chronological arrangement gave me a much clearer idea of the timeline of scripture and its implications. The commentary was often helpful, as well.
LOVED this version!! The New Living Translation is written in a way that is accessible and easy to read. At the beginning of each day’s reading there is a summary/explanation of the reading and its connection and relevance to the big story. It was SO HELPFUL! I recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered reading the Bible cover to cover but didn’t know how or where to start. I am going to read it again this year!
I finished the Bible in one year, which is probably my biggest accomplishment of 2024. I have such a better and deeper understanding of my religion and spirituality. Being raised a "Chreaster" Catholic, I had no idea how long and how much history is contained in the Old Testament. Once I got used to the language and writing, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Old Testament takes almost 9 months to read through, and I found the stories and accounts of history fascinating. The way the New Testament is set up in the Chronological Study Bible is why I gave this version 4 stars. The four Gospels are put together simultaneously, so you are reading the same story or parable from Jesus with 3 or 4 different perspectives all at the same time. I think the study Bible would have done better to separate each of the four Gospels (reading each book of the Gospel in its entirety before reading another Gospel). It would not have detracted from the timeline and instead provided a more unified perspective of the Gospel writer's experience.
I highly recommend the NLT One Year Chronological Study Bible by Tyndale. I was able to read the entire bible and it made sense by going in chronological order. I really love how it opens up with a synopsis of what the reading will be and how it closes with Daily Discovery Questions. This is not just a Chronological Bible - it's a Study Bible! If you are struggling with completing your yearly bible reading plan, I recommend trying this method/bible out.
If your goal is to read the Bible through in a year but in a chronological order, this one certainly helps. The NLT translation is also helpful to those who want something easier to understand, yet still a scholarly translation work. It is also a good changeup if you are used to reading a different translation (like me) and want to mix it up a bit
