I read this book over and over growing up, especially the last page with the cat and dog who fight under the table. Although that part is tragically missing from my copy, most of the rest of it is intact, and I enjoyed sharing it with my son this weekend.
When I was growing up, my mom very wisely saved the pop-up books for illness. That way, we didn't ruin them with our everyday escapades, and we had something to keep us amused at a time when we needed some quiet activity. Now I am doing the same.
Coming back to this book as an adult was different. I was less intrigued by the moving pieces and elaborate scenes, but I had even more fun watching my son enjoy them. A few typos caught my eye that I never noticed as a child—the book could definitely have been better edited. But I loved it.
