Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Road to Christmas: Holly / Harper (A Road Home Mystery Romance) by Kathi Daily is a reprint of two previously published books. Holly was published as Road to Christmas Past (December 2013), and Harper was published as The Hathaway Sisters: Harper (February 2019).
The first book, Holly, is a beautifully written, emotionally charged, and uplifting story. The storyline flows smoothly and is well-plotted, with well-developed and relatable characters. There’s a perfect combination of compassion, friendship, sweet romance, mystery, and discovery. This book takes us on the heartwarming journey of Holly attempting to solve the mystery of her past and figure out her future.
Holly Thompson is a successful advice columnist at a weekly women’s magazine. She’s twenty-seven years old and lives in New York City. When Holly was only a few days old, she was the sole survivor of an automobile accident. Since investigators couldn’t identify her, she was sent to live in a foster home run by a wonderful woman named Aunt Meg in Moosehead, Minnesota, where she stayed until she went to college. Aunt Meg, who recently passed away, left her home to Holly. Prior to her passing, Aunt Meg arranged for an early Christmas present to be delivered to Holly by Ben Holiday, a private investigator Meg played poker with each week. The present was the use of Ben’s services until Christmas to unravel the mystery of Holly’s birth, a DVD made by Meg, and two matching sapphire and diamond necklaces found in diaper bags at the accident scene.

The second book, Harper, is a fast-paced page-turner filled with mystery, action, adventure, and intrigue. The storyline is well-plotted, and the three-dimensional characters are well-developed. It’s an intricately woven tale that grabbed my attention on the first page and kept me hooked until the end. Ms. Daley is very talented in creating suspense and tension with her written words, and her descriptive writing made me feel like I was taking part in the action as it unfolded.
Harper Hathaway and her four sisters were raised in Moosehead, Minnesota. As soon as she graduated from high school, Harper joined the Army. After three tours, she decided it was time for a change and thought about going home, but then she met Eric Palmer, a scuba-diving instructor who enjoyed treasure hunting and followed him to San Diego. Harper thought they had a bright future together, but tragedy struck six months ago when Eric was killed while diving into a wreck in Cozumel. Lost and lonely, Harper decides to return to Moosehead after a fourteen-year absence. When a puppy darts in front of her vehicle, she loses control and slides into a drainage ditch. Uninjured but shaken up, Harper searches for the dog, and after finding him, he leads her to a wrecked car with an unconscious man, a dead woman, and a tiny baby inside. After Harper removes the baby from the wreckage, the driver regains consciousness and tells her she needs to hide the baby and trust no one. When Harper hears another vehicle approaching the accident scene, she grabs the diaper bag and searches for a place to hide. After gunshots ring out and overhearing a phone conversation, Harper realizes they are in grave danger. With her vehicle disabled and no identification, money, or phone, Harper searches for shelter. Not knowing who to turn to or trust, she finally decides to call her high school friend, Holly Thompson’s husband, Ben Holiday, a former policeman turned private investigator who lives in Moosehead, as soon as she finds a working telephone. After hearing her story, Ben fears for their safety and arranges for his friend, Michael Maddox, to pick Harper and the baby up and protect them from the powerful men who are intent on locating the infant. Harper is determined to do everything possible to protect the baby and ensure that she has a good life. Even though Harper and Michael are attracted to each other, their top priority is the infant’s safety.
Even though the holidays are well behind us now, I originally bought Road to Christmas because it met a monthly theme for a book challenge that I enjoy taking part in. It was my choice because I always enjoy reading books by Kathi Daley and this proved to be no exception.
Both stories feature a long road trip. Holly Thompson sets out on a road journey with Ben Holiday in search of trying to find her family roots. Harper Hathaway hooks up with Michael Maddox after the driver of a car involved in an accident asks her to take the baby from the back seat and keep it safe.
The stories are fast paced and I loved being along for the ride. Ms. Daley knows how to keep her readers involved with the story and helps them get to really know her main characters. As both stories are a romance, it is no surprise when Holly and Ben and Harper and Michael develop feelings for each other.
Pick up a copy of this book and come along for the ride….both the journey itself and the mystery/romance.
There are two connected stories in this read. One is about Holly searching for her past and the other about Harper who has a connect to Holly's past. Both have mystery with a touch of romance involved. I love MS Daley's writing style. The plots are realistic and tightly woven, the characters likeable, and the romance is just enough not to be sappy. There is nothing graphic of violence or sex, which is what I prefer in my mysteries most of the time. I have read four different series by this author and these stories I rate high because they stand alone, but are just as outstanding. I definitely recommend to any of her fans or any new reader who enjoys cozy mysteries.
Part 2 of road to Christmas was as good as the first part
The Road to Christmas mystery romance was a great book. The first part started with a baby who was saved from a burning car and ends more than 27 years later when the baby sets out to find the rest of the story. The second story includes other characters connected to the happy couple that were in the first story. Another successful adventure that leads to a great ending. Good book
I only finished Volume I, but I was so invested in the story I couldn't stop reading it. This was an amazing family story about separated twins at birth, death, foster children, finding family and sweet love. It is long and at times I got frustrated because I was sure how it would end and I wanted it to hurry up. but so very glad I read the whole story. Yes, the ending was like I thought, but lots of twists and turns in the mystery made it even better.
These two entwined stories display that love is found in unusual circumstances. There was just enough Christmas magic for me. I also enjoyed reading about the very strong female characters. Kathie Dailey has become a favored author.
The first story is an intriguing my,stery which includes a romance. The second story is also an intriguing mystery, but includes a bit of drama in it. It also ends in romance. These were both very enjoyable and I do recommend this book.
Both of these books are great examples of Ms. Daley's cozy mystery tales. Well developed characters, mysteries with a few twists and turns and plenty of suspense to keep a reader turning the pages.
