Rowan Easton is the perfect teenager. She keeps her head high, she has perfect grades, and there’s never a hair out of place or crease in sight. However, there is so much more than meets the eye with Rowan. She keeps it hidden, held close to her heart so that the world will never see.
The only person who risks shattering her hard-shelled exterior and letting her inner demons bleed out for the world to see is the very boy who makes her day-to-day life at school miserable.
Asher Madigan has spent the last two years reinventing himself and creating the intimidating, tough guy facade. He’s built so many walls, they could rival the most secure and secluded prison in the world. But when Rowan Easton starts standing up for herself, Asher finds that the tiny flame of her anger may just be what it takes to set fire to his walls and burn him to the ground.
Will Rowan be able to fight back against Asher’s taunts? Will Asher be able to deny Rowan’s alluring pull? When some of their closest kept secrets start to seep from their hearts, will either of them survive it? Neither of them are sure.
They only know one thing: it’s either burn in the flames or embrace the fire.
This book! Omg it’s just amazing. How you can go from hating a character to just loving them ahhhhh Not much to say except if you love haters to lovers to maybe haters to lovers again this is the book for you! Finished it in a day and loved reading from start to finish ❤️❤️
"I would burn the whole world down to ashes if it ever wronged her again."
Ugh this book is everything I love, character growth, personal trauma, enemies to lovers, slow-burn. It also tackles very hard issues like death, eating disorders and abuse very gracefully and in a way that I feel like is realistic.
Asher and Rowan are what seems to be complete opposites. Rowan is what everyone at school would consider perfect. She's kind, bubbly, gets good grades and dresses like a perfect little blonde haired blue eyed popular girl. Asher is the typical bad boy, tattooed, loud, bullies others, a rough home life and rules the school.
Neither of these characters are as they seem. Rowan is submissive, quiet and obedient and tries to be perfect so her parents will acknowledge her existence and that she's a good daughter. She's battling many inner demons and they're barely staying inside her head. Asher is putting up the bad boy persona because he doesn't know how else to protect himself. I love watching their walls slowly crack and tumble down as they learn to trust each other and see each other for more than what's on the surface. I loved this book and can't wait to see what's next for the author!
Ok don’t know what i was expecting but it wasn’t this! I heard high school romance and was expecting the cliche teen romance (which I LOVE by the way). But this was so much more! Took me on a roller coaster of emotions and dealt with some deep topics (mental health topics and bullying).
Rowan and Asher both have been through a lot in their past and I loved watching them begin to trust each other and grow throughout the book. Seeing Asher come to terms with his feelings for Rowan was everything🥰
If you love enemies to lovers, flawed characters and good girl bad boy you need to read this book! Was such an easy read but also one that will stick with you. Rowan and Asher are definitely engraved in my mind and heart now🤍
Releases September 1st!! Thank you Jessie for sending a an ARC of this book, cannot wait to see where this takes you and what other stories you still have to tell. Much love♥️♥️
To Ashes by J.J Rhodes ❤️ I was grateful to be an arc reader on this. This opposites attract, enemies to lovers is so good. Rowen and Asher’s story made me feel all the feels, and even had me thinking about difficult things. I HIGHLY suggest this to anyone, who enjoys a bad boy, good girl, slow burn! Oh and the book had a playlist 🙌🏻Can’t wait to see what you do next my amazing friend
I thought this was your run of the mill bully romance but this was so much better than I expected. The storyline was so good, I’m over here wishing for a sequel and I’m the number one opponent to writers overusing the “series dynamic” for monetary gain. Even if it’s a novella, short story, hell I’ll even take a newsletter snippet- just to have a “where are they now”. Beautiful story. This book was a gift to your readers. Heavy topics: poignant and thought provoking. Thank you for this.
