This isn't a Wolverine/Deadpool crossover, not really. Instead, it's a complete Wolverine story, followed by a complete Deadpool story. But you need to read the Wolverine story, at least part of it, to get the Deadpool story. Basically, it's a revival of Weapon X, showing up in Wolverine first to try and recruit him, then falling back on Deadpool when that fails. The Wolverine story was ok, but I started to lose interest when Beast fell out of it. The Deadpool story was much, much better for me. Serious stuff, for a Deadpool story. High gross-out factor on both stories, though.

The return

A good book. The book collects Wolverine and Deadpool books as they are re-recuited back into the organisation.

The Weapon X program is back. With a difference, or is it all that different? Wolverine is having dreams of murders. When a dream is proved true, did Wolverine really do it, or is he bring framed at a time where human and mutant tensions are at a high. On the run is Wolverine the Hunter or the hunted.

Weapon X wants Deadpool, but will a loose cannon like Deadpool cause more harm than good for them. It takes a lot to get under Deadpool's skin, but what happens when things get too personal?

A good collection of comics. Also, a good reminder of the time Beast and Wolverine were friends.

Continuing the x-book mega-read-a-thon of 2017...

Easily my least favorite x-book volume that I have read so far. If I could give it half of a star, I would.

Incredibly predictable storyline, odd moments of characterization, lots of moments with humorous intent that just weren't funny in the least, a story that shoehorns in too many characters, a new leader of the Weapon X program with one of the most cliché origin stories one could come up with...

Oh yeah... And a bunch of ridiculously homophobic moments. I don't know where they really came from (and the x-books have always been about the inclusion of everyone in Xavier's dream, not exclusion - so it seems particularly out of place in an X-book in my opinion) but there must be four or five different moments of blatant homophobia. (Honestly, I find it interestingly out of place in a storyline that basically has no female characters and features musclebound men cutting and shooting each other's clothes off at several points, but who am I to say that there may be some Freudian projection going on here?)

All in all, this one is a definite skip. If you are foolishly trying to collect and read the X-Men history (who would do such a crazy thing?), I would say pass on this one. There isn't a whole lot of plot and even less character growth.

The title is basically clickbait. Yes, there are references in the Wolverine story to Deadpool and vice versa but it is not a team-up story, nor is it a versus story. Click and bait.
The artwork is decent, revisiting many of the indulgences of the 90s [pouches anyone?]. The story is one of those that if, stretched out over months of regular comic delivery might be more palatable, but all at once it is a little nauseating. Okay but "Meh."

The Wolverine story here is strange: it has a lot of good ideas, and the plot holds together well enough. There's just something awkward about the whole thing: Beast is out of place, there's a random ghost, and so on. It has all the right ingredients for a good story, they're just organized in a weird way. I can't even really specify what's so weird about it, really.

The Deadpool story is also ok, but it's flaws are a little more awkward: Deadpool's humor is just so hard to get right. It has to be simultaneously be juvenile and annoying while not seeming "bad." And it revolves around the revived Weapon X program, starring characters no one cares about.

Anyway, both stories are worth reading, but they certainly don't go on any Best Of lists.

The Wolverine story was somewhat dry. The story didn't seem to come together very well.

The second half focuses around Deadpool. It was much better than the first half. Deadpool was as quick witted and goofy as ever. Very entertaining. If you choose to read I would just skip the first half and jump straight to the Deadpool volumes.

I was hoping this would include the ending. It does not.
