The Death of Dirk Cooper

Rate this book
Dirk never wanted to end up on Zaroff's island. He'd cheated and lied, stolen and tricked, begged and crawled, all to save his own life, one payment at a time. But now the debt's come due, and Dirk missed his payments. He must muster every ounce of guile and strength at his disposal, must embrace the supernatural powers he'd struggled with for so long, must call upon allies both old and new to face the most terrifying foe a man can face. . .

A Hilarious Haunting Continues with Ghostly Guffaws

"The Death of Dirk Cooper (Dirk Cooper #2)" by Matthew Howry is the uproarious second installment in the paranormal real estate escapades of Dirk Cooper. With a perfect blend of the supernatural, humor, and high-stakes real estate shenanigans, this book proves that laughter can indeed transcend the grave.

The story picks up where the first book left off, with Dirk Cooper once again embroiled in the world of spectral properties. His antics as a real estate agent with a unique clientele of ghosts and ghouls continue to be a source of hilarity. Matthew Howry's signature narrative style, brimming with witty humor, sets the tone for the tale, creating a perfect atmosphere for more ghostly absurdity.

Dirk Cooper is a character who knows no rest, even in the afterlife. His return to the real estate world as a ghostly agent is marked by more pranks, specters, and pun-filled encounters. Dirk's misadventures are a testament to Howry's skill in crafting a lovable and laugh-inducing protagonist who thrives on the supernatural chaos that surrounds him.

The book's take on the paranormal continues to be light-hearted and amusing. Instead of the traditional eerie and sinister ghost stories, Howry brings a comedic twist to the genre. His depiction of spectral properties, their quirky inhabitants, and the humorous outcomes of their coexistence with the living is nothing short of delightful.

The humor in "The Death of Dirk Cooper" is its undeniable highlight. Howry's clever wordplay, comedic situations, and puns galore will have readers chuckling throughout the book. The story is a testament to the author's wit and his talent for creating genuinely funny situations that showcase his love for both real estate and the supernatural.

While the book is primarily focused on humor, it also maintains themes of friendship, unity, and the value of understanding and embracing the differences that make each character, living or otherwise, unique.

Comparing "The Death of Dirk Cooper" to its contemporaries in the paranormal and humorous fantasy genres, it continues to stand out as a book that effortlessly combines the two. While many paranormal stories lean heavily into horror and suspense, Howry's unique take offers readers a lighthearted and humorous alternative, making the series a standout in the crowded paranormal fiction field.

In conclusion, "The Death of Dirk Cooper (Dirk Cooper #2)" is a side-splitting continuation of Dirk's otherworldly real estate escapades. Matthew Howry's knack for humor, supernatural absurdity, and clever storytelling make this book a must-read for those who enjoy a hearty laugh while diving into a world where ghosts, ghouls, and real estate deals collide. It's a delightful and entertaining follow-up that keeps the laughter flowing, even beyond the grave.

Dirk Cooper is the dollar store version of Constantine... if he was born only yesterday and knows nothing about the world around him including how to eat.

See, I was puzzled by this book. Don't get me wrong the first ones wasn't good but whatever, this one however, was something else.

It had the same issues the author's previous works did. Fragmented sentences that tended to meander midway and lose the point. A very odd writing style that didn't really make sense. Redundant sentences that kept trying to explaining that water is wet and so on.

Here however that is ALL the book as to offer. There is no plot, there is no character, there is no sense regarding the references or time frame.

Numa Numa, which is a meme from 2005 is referenced in the same paragraph as baby shark... which peaked in 2020. Which is it? Because I'd believe someone in 2005 might not be familiar with youtube and memes, I don't buy it in 2020 though... or that he would be looking for a payphone in either year for obvious reasons.

Then I figured it out!!!

This was written by an AI.

I have to believe that an actual person would have more sense than what is on display here. Or at least, the ability to google what memes are popular per decade.

Don't get fooled by the positive reviews, this book makes no sense and is an obvious quick cash grab.

So good!

What started out as a funny, engaging paranormal adventure story turned out to have depth and great characters all without compromising the former. I love this series and hope there will be many more books in this series. The characters, all of them, are fleshed out and so much better than I expected. I love this author's writing and can't wait to read more.

Even better than the first book. This series took a surprising turn. Instead of dancing around MC's issues like most books we get this Gem. I'm left satisfied but with even more questions. I must know what happens now after all of that. Will probably binge-read third when it comes out.

Not quite as good as the first, but it's a really good continuation of the story. I found myself really getting to like the main villain as it goes and... well lets just say this series has a thing for wild endings.

This author has quite the imagination! The humor is dark and helps move the story along. Hopefully the author is working on number three!

Fun book series. Curious how the story line will progress after this one. I hope the author continues both series that he's created.

I like this one better than the first. It was funny. I glad Cookie made a return appearance and I like how the author expanded on Dirk's powers and capabilities. I listened this this and I was laughing out loud for a lot of the book during my commute. I'm glad I bought this series and will listen to it again.
