All Elise wants is a normal roommate. She thought starting her life over in San Diego would mean writing at the beach and rendezvousing with sun-kissed surfer gods. But once she arrives, her California dreaming' turns into a nightmare. Her apartment is miles from the ocean, her roommie Justine's boyfriend has moved in (and he isn't kicking in a penny-just smoking up a storm). And Elise is starting to get used to the helicopters that fly overhead, warning everyone to lock their doors. But she knows there must be better places to live, and better people to room with. Like Max. Actually, she'd like to share a whole lot more with him than a bathroom.
Whitney Lyles was twenty-six when she landed her first book deal for Always the Bridesmaid.
She’s now the proud author of a novella and five novels, including her latest romantic comedy for teens -- Party Games. She lives in San Diego with her husband and daughter. She is currently working on her next book.
I don't know why I decided to read this book and got it from the library, but I did. It was an interesting book, not good but not bad to just kind of there. I think I would enjoy other books from this author I think. This book wasn't really amazing though.
A girl is moving back to California where her family and friends are, but she can't afford an apartment on her own or in the area where she wants to live. So, this book is about the different people she lives with and how so survives. She has a neat freak who's rocker boyfriend moves in, and then two college students who party all the time and bunk people after a party in her bed (sounds like my situation sophomore year at cornell.) During all this she is try to work on writing her book and trying to reestablish her relationship with her family and friends.
If you just want fluff I recommend it, but it is not chick lit with any substance.
I was really enjoying this book… and then it just ended! Everything felt so rushed in the last couple of pages to “tidy up loose ends”, and it felt so unsatisfying.
SPOILER* Currently living in Arizona I was hooked on the first chapter. With the authors Beautiful descriptions and a little imagination I felt like I was there. The romantic suspense between max and Elise kept me intrigued. Couldn't put it down. I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish this book since month of February is a short month but I wasn't able to put it down. By the 8th I was already 70% finished. Ugh Jeffrey. 😖😒 the little Terror It started out as 5 stars until The ending. The ending was very dull in which I gave it 4 stars. I thought there would be a more powerful ending with rekindling the relationship with Max. Overall cute, easy to read story.

We've all had roommates, the good, the bad, and the crazy. In this book we get to experience one girl's adventures with three different roomies. When I got the book I kind of thought that we'd get to read about more than just three. I've had way more than that. But the character's do do things that would annoy me if I had to live with them. Makes my current roomie not so bad. The book seemed a little long and not always so interesting. But if you've ever had to live with strangers before, you should read this. It'll make you laugh and remember all your crazy roomies.
Oh the painful, painful memories! Having had too many roommates to count in college (all thanks to the dorms - not because of me!) I am so glad to have these days behind me! This story reminded me of the painful confrontations, the annoyance of coming home and finding things were not as you left them, and just the out and out fear of where you may live next. I'm glad to have put those days behind me.
This book is best to be read by those people who have had some crazy roommates in your past (or present) or for those who have never known that luxury and wished they could have had that.
It may be because I'm in a similar situation, but I really enjoyed the main character of this novel. I definitely found myself sympathizing with Elise's living situations and her search for the perfect roommate. While I really enjoy Whitney Lyles' writing my one issue with the book was that I thought that the ending was abrupt. I was left wanting more, which can be a good thing, but not when I feel like there's no closure.
I enjoy reading Whitney Lyles books. They all take place in San Diego. Its fun to read about the characters and know exactly where they are, whether they are in North Park or Mission Beach or Poway... Easy read!
This book was cute! A great story about the realities of life depending on your roommate situation! Whitney Lyles has a great sense of humor in this book, there were a couple times I was laughing out loud (especially during the drive-thru part....loved it:)
I recommend this book if you are looking for a light and fast pace book. Very funny and down to earth. Perfect book to relax at home with a bottle of Moscato.
Great weekend read and of course, I loved the cover!
I had trouble starting this book but once I read further, I liked it more. I borrowed this book from the library and had to renew itasI had not had the time to finish it until after the original due date. I believe someone younger than I am-probably college to grad school age would enjoy it more.
The book was good but I feel the author left a ton of details out. For example, the date with Toby, speaking to Stan and Carly, what happened to the guy her parents were setting her up with.... too many questions unanswered.
LOVED this book- loved the characters, and loved the fact that it takes place in San Diego and I know exactly where she is talking about! Whitney Lyles is a great "chick-lit" writer!
Roommates was a fun, easy read! I found myself laughing through the pages. I also love that Whitney Lyles writes about real places in San Diego. It's great to see my hometown plugged!
