Just finished reading this again to Josiah (age 4). Wonderful drawings, good Christ-centered lessons, perfect for children ages 3-5. Highly recommended.
We've read this 4x as a family: - Aug 2022 - Mar 2020 - Feb 2019 - Apr 2018
Very good devotional for kids. I would highly suggest reading the Bible passages to the kids also. You want to be sure that kids understand this is a guide and not the actual Bible. It chooses some good stories/selections from the Bible. Good, fun pictures for the kids as well.
Where can we find Jesus? We find Jesus in the whole bible. Every story is about jesus. Everyone who trusts in Jesus will find him and will be saved.
From beginning to end, Jesus is the center of the bible. Every story and every person centers on the work of Christ. The story bible is in chronicle order with the actual bible passage for each section. With over 300 pages of colorful pictures, parents and grandparents, will be able to share the Gospel message and more importantly all the attributes of God. How the trinity is central to our faith to the wrath of God reveals God's mercy. As RC Sproul says, mercy deserved is no mercy at all.
I would strongly suggest that parents read this book for themselves to be ready to answer any questions your children may have. To be pray fully thinking of how our children are to respond to a great salvation that we have in Christ.
I did get this book for my two grandchildren but I feel my children will get much out of it as well. Highly recommend for parents who want a strong biblical teaching for their children.
Excellent. My wife and I love reading this to our girls. I especially appreciate how each chapter gives one key sentence that expresses a key truth yet is stated so simply that my three year old can repeat it and remember it.
My son loved and requested this every night! He liked the pictures and questions. I liked the short 3 pages and solid biblical truth. 52 nights well spent.
An excellent story Bible for toddlers. The pictures are exceptionally good, the text clearly was written by someone who understands toddlers, and the 52 stories are well chosen and theologically well informed. The authors show Jesus as the center of all of Scripture.
It would work best paired with The Big Picture Story Bible; the two together will combine to show kids the coherence of Scripture (God's people in God's place under God's rule) and--in the case of The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible--expose kids to many of the most theologically significant moments in salvation history and to their ultimate meaning in light of the gospel.
Great devotional style book for toddlers and younger kids. My 2 year old enjoyed the bright pictures and simple questions that go along with each chapter. I appreciated how each was drawn back to the gospel / God’s character.
The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible is not your typical Bible story book for preschoolers. It contains many of the most familiar Bible stories -- and a few that are not quite so familiar -- but takes the facts of those stories to a higher level.
The main highlight of the 52 stories has to do with God's promises and his work of redemption shown from the very beginning of His Word to the end. Each story is short but can easily be enriched with discussion and/or reading the Scripture passages given at the beginning of the story. Colorful illustrations accompany each story, along with a major truth (given in large, colorful print), and a summarizing question to provoke thought and conversation. The gospel plan of salvation is clearly presented multiple times throughout the book. The target audience is probably about ages 3 to 7 or 8, but the material could pretty easily be adapted a little outside that range.
I look forward to sharing this book with my young grandchildren as they continue to learn about what God's promises mean in their lives. I am sure they will enjoy the stories and illustrations and will grow in their understanding of the Bible. And before long, they will likely be reading the stories on their own.
Thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group for sharing a copy of The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.
The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible is such a great way to introduce preschoolers to God’s story as a linear concept. Specifically, that’s God promise of rescue is the common thread that runs through Scripture.
The illustrations are positively gorgeous and adorable, all at once. Preschoolers will be drawn to the bright colors and not-too-busy illustrations. Heck, I am drawn to them too. It makes me smile… and books that make me smile deserve a shoutout!
The stories are geared toward a child’s short attention span but at the same time they are packed with truth. I really like the format of the highlighted main idea as well as a question that you can discuss with your preschooler. This can be used for early elementary ages too, thanks to the verse references and those discussion questions.
Bottom Line: This is adorable. And truth-filled. And well-done in every way.

This is a book my boys are requesting each night, and seem to be learning something new all the time. The stories are geared to the 3 to 7 year olds, but my ten and eight love them! We begin with the table of contents, and find how easy it is to find the story you are looking for. Stories included are from both the New and Old Testaments, and total 52 in all. We trace each of God’s Promises with these stories, and beautiful colorful illustrations are included for enhancement, and each one has a highlighted are to remember these truths. I am so pleased to have this collection, and love that my boys are requesting it daily! There are a few quirky things, but the boys catch these and make them want more, so we pass over these things and talk about others. I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Books, and was not required to give a positive review.
We loved reading this with our little guy. The stories are short and simple, but all point to the gospel of Jesus. If you love The Jesus Storybook Bible, but your kids aren’t quite big enough to appreciate it, this is perfect. The stories are short with simple questions, the illustrations have high contrast so littles can focus on them, there are interactive pieces to the images for littles to learn words and their meanings (ie, numbers, opposites, etc), and it is filled with the love of Jesus.
Although my preference would be to include crucial OT passages like 2 Samuel 7, the book still adequately provides parents with a solid resource to teach their children how all of the Bible points to Jesus Christ. If you know or are a parent of a 3-to-6-year-old child, purchase a copy and welcome this book into your home.
I just got done reading this with my 2.5 year old and I can’t wait to do it again. Lots of story selection, stays with the essential truth of the passage, toddler loved the illustrations and engaged with them. She was a little too young to grasp some of the ideas, so we made edits in the fly, but I’m sure we will be reading this one over and over for years to come.
Our family loved this Bible! The book is a far more comprehensive children's Bible than most. It included a ton of stories you don't usually see in children's Bibles. Each story stuck to the Biblical story and always included a practical question to ask kids at the end. We definitely recommend it!
Such a great beginners story bible! The Jesus storybook Bible is still my favorite but this one is geared towards 3-6 year olds, so a bit younger of an audience than the Jesus Storybook Bible. Love that it points kids to Christ throughout.
Great resource for introducing your child to the stories of the Bible and the story of the Bible. It also includes parts of the Bible not captured in many children’s bibles.
Amazing book for toddlers and little ones. Very clear on the gospel and Jesus while being understandable for little ones. Our church is going to buy these for new babies from now on.
A great tool to use in introducing young children to the beauty of the gospel. The chapters are short (6 pages) and there is just the right amount of text on each page to keep kids interested. Ideal for family devotions.
We loved this one as a family especially with our four year old. Very simple and yet a beautiful emphasis that has been different from other Bible books we’ve read. The questions at the end of each story were a fun and helpful way to start conversations and prayer prompts.
If you have small children, it is likely that you have either bought or been given a children’s Bible or two. On one extreme, some of these children’s Bibles are nothing other than the same text as our adult Bibles, just with a child-friendly cover. On the other extreme, some of the children’s Bibles I’ve run across have so watered down the story of the Bible and the story of the passage that it hardly resembles a Bible at all. And then there are many in between those two extremes.
My Favorite Children’s Story Bible
While there are definitely a few excellent options out there, I want to let you know about a new one that is now my favorite children’s story Bible — The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy. From the introduction, Kennedy says that this new story Bible “traces God’s perfect promises through the story of the Old and New Testament.” The story Bible is split into 52 stories — 26 stories under “Old Testament: Promises Made” and 26 stories under “New Testament: Promises Kept” — in order to allow you to structure it to be read one story per week over the course of a year.
There are several things that I love about this story Bible …
(1) Its Gospel-Centered Focus From beginning to end, each story intentionally focuses on the purpose of that story within the larger, grand story of the Bible — God’s plan to redeem His people. I even found myself, while reading through the stories with my son, saying, “Wow, that’s a great way to put that! What a wonderful Gospel-connection of that passage.”
(2) Its Appeal to a Variety of Ages Whether your child is a toddler like my own, just starting school, or an older elementary school child, this story Bible is appealing to several ages. The younger children will be captured by the excellent artwork, vivid colors, and opportunities to count, recognize objects, and other fun teaching elements scattered throughout. The older children will be intrigued by the unified story and the application questions at the end of each story. Rather than appealing to just one age group, this story Bible would be an excellent option for a variety of ages.
(3) Its Quality Whether it be the excellent artwork from the first page to the last, or the quality of the cover and the pages, this story Bible is an excellent quality. It has already stood up to our 2 year old handling it for several months now — something that unfortunately cannot be said about some of his other books.
(4) Its Content Not only is it Gospel-centered, as said above, but it is also accurate and faithful to the Biblical stories. The author rightly attributes the flood to “all the bad choices [aka sin] people were making” (15). He also makes it clear that Jesus died as our substitute by saying “Jesus died because WE do wrong things. Jesus took the punishment for OUR disobedience and sin. Jesus died instead of us” (253). There are many other examples to give, but the point is that throughout the story Bible, the content is not so simplified and watered down that you lose the truth of sin, God’s righteousness, Jesus’ substitutionary atonement, etc. Though they are certainly communicated in a child-friendly way, the point is that they are communicated. Sadly, that cannot be said about all children’s Bibles.
Conclusion
If you have children, I would wholeheartedly recommend this story Bible. We have tried several story Bibles and books with our 2 year old. Some he likes, and some he doesn’t. But from the very beginning, this has been his go-to book that he wants to read, and one that keeps his attention from start to finish. Its ability to capture the attention of children with its short stories and vivid artwork, connected to the fact that it is rich in its content and focus on the Gospel as the central storyline of the Bible makes this story Bible our first choice for teaching the truth of Scripture to our young children. If you haven’t found one that you love yet, I would recommend you give this one a shot. It is now my favorite children’s story Bible!

This was the first Children’s bible I read all the way through to my boys. Much of it was very good and gospel focused however there was very little that felt supernatural. I’m curious to see how other versions compare.
My kids and I really enjoyed this book. As the title and the cover of the book suggests this is a book with Bible stories for little children and is meant for kids between the age range of three to seven which is exactly the age range of my children.
This work contains fifty two stories with the order of the book being chronologically arranged. These fifty two stories are evenly divided between the Old Testament and the New Testament, with twenty six stories each. The book starts off with God’s creation and ends with Jesus opening up a scroll as recorded in the last book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation.
At first the size of this book intimidated me, reaching over two hundred pages. However it turns out that this wasn’t a problem once I started reading it aloud to my girls. They wanted me to read more than one story in one sitting which I think is something to credit both the author and the illustrator. Typically we ended up going over three stories a night without myself feeling strained or the girls losing focus. This last year I have read various different children’s Bible story books to my daughters and some of them had strange illustrations or were to abstract in its artwork. This was not the case with this particular work and I enjoyed the artwork and illustrations that was just right for the intended age group. With that said I do think at times the artwork was a little silly but it wasn’t over the top. Each story also ended with a question that allowed myself as a parent to have further discussion with my kids. This was helpful for me as I don’t want to just read to my kids without shepherding and pastoring my children.
In terms of the contents much of it was what you would expect with a children’s story Bible. But there were times I was impressed such as the book being very clear and explicit that God’s promise to save sinners began in the Garden of Eden after the Fall. One constructive criticism I have with the book is the chapter on Peter and Cornelius in which the book tells us that Cornelius ate Lasagna several times in this short chapter. The Bible of course never states that Cornelius nor any other Italian Gentiles at this time ate Lasanga. Furthermore to be historically correct Lasagna didn’t exist during first century AD for it wasn’t invented until the Middle Ages during the early fourteenth century. I think it is important not to distract kids from the main story and also that we must be careful that we don’t use literary license to insert something that clearly was not the case since it could be distracting and against the spirit of a story book Bible which is about spreading the truth of God’s Word.
Overall a helpful resource and worth getting. Also if you are thinking of getting a children’s book with Bible stories as a gift this book would be great for that too.

52 chapters the tell the story of Jesus Christ, from Genesis to Revelation, with a conversational lilt to the storytelling, and thought provoking conversation starting questions that get the young person in your life to start thinking about the important things in life.
Illustrated in bright colors, and simple, but expressive pictures, this book brings to life the Gospel, from Creation to what is still yet to come. I loved that the chapters were concise. They took each event and connected it to the cross of Christ, and ended with a challenge question that was easy enough for a child to understand, yet deep and would be a great way to start a conversation.
I really liked how this book was very focused on helping children understand the Gospel, and what it truly means. This would be a fantastic book for a young person in your life, with it's bright colors and big print, it would even be perfect for new readers!
Overall, I was very impressed with this book, it takes the idea of a children's Bible storybook to the next level, and gets them thinking about the meaning of the story and what it means in light of the Gospel and Jesus Christ. Highly recommend!

One of my favorite things about this book is that it isn't your typical book for kids. It has some not so familiar bible stories, along side really traditional ones. This book highlights 52 various stories. From God's promises, to his redemption, and everything in between.
I loved the fact that each story has such a good discussion and reading involved. It is done at a level a child would understand, but also well teach them, strengthen their faith, and open a disucsion about faith. The book contains scripture passages at the begining of each story. A large color print expresses the major point. The gospal of salvation is presented at several places in this book. There is a collection of both Old and New Testament stories. Which is really neat.
As a picture book is larger and bulkier than your average one. There are many stories so you could do one a day, or a few before bedtime. Whatever your family choses. I also feel like this would be a great addition to a Christian homeschool program.
The artwork is cute and charming for the age. They are pretty much consitant with primary color range. The artwork is crated by Trish Mahoney, and it is very well done.
The target age range is about 3 to around 8 years old. You could adapt it to a younger audiance but I am unsure that older kids wouldn't see this as "too" babyish for them. This book will allow you to read to your child and will follow. them to a point were they can read the stories on their own.
This is overall a wonderful resource for young children. This would be a great gift for children!

There is much to love about The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy. As noted in the Publisher's description, this book has a lot of visual appeal and fun elements that make it a joy to read with toddlers and preschoolers. These engaging teaching elements combined with frequent questions make it a delightfully interactive book. The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible also contains a lot of amusing words and interjections like "Pop!", "Sssluuuurrrrrp", and "Hooray!" Most importantly, the entertaining aspects of this book are not an end in themselves but a means to communicating the glorious truth of the Gospel to young people: they are sinners in need of a Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout the story Bible, key truths to remember, most often pointing to God's character and work, are highlighted in bold letters, and each lesson seeks to point to Jesus Christ in some way. While the connection to the larger redemptive storyline wasn't always clearly demonstrated and the main point of the Biblical account wasn't always the focus of this author's retelling, this story Bible was generally faithful to the text of the Bible and clearly presented the Gospel throughout. The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible is a fun and worthwhile addition to the libraries of those blessed with toddlers in their lives.
(Please note, The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible does contain artistic depictions of Jesus Christ.)
