Dirty Bomb: In the name of God

Rate this book
Why is a dirty bomb so terrifying?

Because nobody has ever detonated one.

Yet.

Five terrorist attacks across the United States, the inexplicable disappearance of an ISIS murder squad in Colorado, a missing American Hero and the decades old theft of a canister of contaminated waste from a Russian oil refinery have the world’s intelligence community on edge.

Meanwhile, the Reconquista, a secret cabal of obscenely rich and deluded Christian extremists, have judged that in a world where truth is uncertain, justice unequal and social media drives humanity, the time is right to create a new world order: Their world order.

As the Reconquista pursue their grotesque plan, Craig Wilson, an unorthodox intelligence agent, races to unravel the connections before the world is plunged into chaos.

But when things get personal and Wilson’s analysis doesn’t fit with the rest of the intelligence community, will he make the right call?

Dirty Bomb is a fast-paced roller coaster of intrigue, misinformation, manipulation, and deceit that propels the reader through a web of conspiracies to an end game that could change the world for ever.

Colin Knight was born in Manchester, England to working class parents – his father painted houses and drove delivery trucks; his mother worked in a retirement home. He and his four siblings shared a small three-bedroom house on an unremarkable city owned housing estate ten miles from the city centre. From seven to sixteen years old, he held newspaper and milk delivery jobs, which he did, before school. Educated to state standards, at an experimental public high-school for boys, Colin graduated at sixteen with minimum credentials. At eighteen, he joined an American international company as a general office helper. By twenty-three Colin had developed an aptitude for product management and marketing. His career with the American company provided work assignments in Italy and Switzerland, as well as travel to many European countries. In 1987, Colin immigrated to Canada to work for a distributor of the American company. In 1991, he took a chance and quit work to attend university. By 1997, Colin had obtained a BA Honors Degree in Political Science, and a MA Degree in International Relations. In 1999, after a brief return to the private sector, Colin joined the Canadian Federal Government. During his fifteen-year government career, Colin worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Canadian International Development Agency, the Public Safety Department, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and most recently, he was a Senior Policy Analyst in the Federal Privy Council Office. Government work and assignments took Colin to Europe, Asia, Latin America and the US. Colin retired from the government in 2014 to focus on family, writing and life. Colin lives in Ottawa, Canada with his wife and their three children. In between housework, groceries, shuttling children and general family support, Colin is working on his next novel. Squash, soccer, learning to play the guitar, and quality beer relieve stress and writers block.

For full disclosure, I beta read this book. Second book by Colin that I have been fortunate enough to read way before publication (third book in all) and man alive, Coling Knight writes some complex and gripping stuff!

Here I will quote myself from an email I sent to author the minute I finished reading the book:

"Holy shit! So, this is how the book ends? I mean, w-o-w!!!
Dirty Bomb is insanely good... it's gripping and edge of the seat and mind blowing and the detail is freaking scary when it comes to all those attacks that are carried out and w-o-w! Really!

I mean, I have only praise [...] It all just totally worked, the action, the conspiracy [...], the pace, everything was just in place and perfect."

Truthfully, I do not understand why a publisher hasn't picked up Colin's books. They're oh so worthy!

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A group dedicated to the end of Islam goads terrorists into attacking America to further their ends.

Way too complicated, and yet simplistic at the same time.

An absolutely thrilling book! Colin Knight is one of my favourite authors, and Dirty Bomb is some of his best work yet! The suspense is crazy in this story, as is the attention to detail. Gruesome scenes set up the premise of the book, with one of the most horrific events I’ve ever read. Do yourself a favour and check out all of Colin’s work. You’ll be gripped for life!

America mainly foils simultaneous terrorist attacks, including several heroic individual acts of courage. A secret cabal of extremist wealthy "Christian" activists attempt to take advantage of the attacks by fighting back against all things Islam. Will it succeed? The plot bounces back and forth between American and Canadian intelligence analysts, and the extreme group.

The book is sloppily edited with a number of auto correct and dictation mistakes. It also appears that the author does not know the definition of circumvent. These mistakes appear often and disrupt the flow of the story.

The sheer quantity of violence, evil and intentional deceit was a bit much for my taste, and made the story even more detached from possible reality. Also, the book ends without a description of the consequences of the final act.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. It's a fast paced, exciting thriller with unflinching descriptions of terrorist attacks, and a chilling caution against a war that might break out if such a weapon was used in real life. I'd like to see a sequel.

There was one issue which occasionally rose to the level of interfering with the enjoyment of the book. I don't know the author's personal political beliefs, and no criticism or offense is intended when I say the following (just leaving an honest review): Some parts of the book felt like they were written (from a left-biased worldview) as if anti-right stereotypes were actually true, which turns the depictions of some characters and situations into false caricatures. It didn't happen often, but it bordered on irritating when it did. (For the record, I'm non-partisan. I'd say the same thing if a book presented anti-left stereotypes as true.)

Readers, please don't let the above, very minor critique deter you from reading this book. It's a nail-biter until the very end!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a nail-biter until the very end…which just ended. Although I did read there is a sequel planned for late 2023 which is great to hear because I *NEED* to know what happens next! I liked the way the plan was presented but would have liked more detail about the main characters and their gripes with Wilson, which I think the sequel will expand upon.

Some minor critiques:
• inconsistencies with measurement (mostly metric, but some imperial references)
• the lack of acronyms - typically agency/organization names are spelled out and then presented as an acronym that is then referenced throughout. Reading the long names can sometimes be daunting so my brain skips them, which can lead to confusion. Acronyms help!

Overall, would recommend. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read and review!

Thank you to author Colin Knight for the FREE Kindle copy of Dirty Bomb.

I liked it. This is the second work from Mr. Knight I've had opportunity to read, and find again a good story, good characters, and good action. I like the cover design. All-in-all a good read, but just a few too many editing issues. I think all were a simple missing word or letter, but enough I take away a star on the rating.

I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways for my honest review

Fast paced and full of action. This is not my typical genre for reading so it did take some getting used to. I will admit that there are some historical notes and references in the book that sent me down multiple rabbit holes - and not to fact check but to learn.

The topics covered in this book are real, relevant and current. Many unpredictable plot twists.

I received a copy of this book from Goodreads in exchange for a review.

There is a shadow organization pulling the strings. They have been for generations, but now, they are on the precipice. The religious war to beat all wars is on the brink. All it needs is a tiny push to put things in motion. And an American hero to ignite the destruction.

Gripping, charged with energy, and incendiary. This story will have the reader on their seat edges. The plot is believably scary and realistic.

I'm not one of those people who buys into conspiracy theories or thinks there is always a cover-up, but after reading
"Dirty Bomb: In the Name of God", I could become one! This book plays on the very real fear Americans have of ISIS. There isn't really anything to "figure out" because for most of the book, the reader has an idea of what is really going on, but it definitely keeps the wheels turning trying to guess if the ultimate plan will be successful.

I originally gave this a 4⭐️ rating but I still can't stop thinking about it the day after finishing which is my personal criteria for a 5⭐️ so I have changed my rating.

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway. I want to thank both the author and Goodreads for the chance to read this book.

Unrealistic

Despite the numerous spelling errors, it's a well-written, fantastically ridiculous work of fiction by a Brit whose American characters sound British. I detect a strong anti-American, anti-Christian vibe from this author.

I received this book as part of a Goodreads Giveaway and do NOT recommend it.

Good storyline… but it just took too long to pull together for me. What happens when American is attacked within her borders? This is a modern day conundrum- as we strive to never see that happen again in a large or small way. Thanks to Goodreads for the copy!

What a ride

I won this, or I'd have no idea of this author or book. What a thriller from the beginning to the very last sentences. It has evoked thoughts and emotions I hadn't experienced before. Thanks to the author, publisher, and Goodreads for the opportunity.
