Detective Josie Quinn #5

Pohřbené kosti

Rate this book
Bez známek života a s ústy plnými hlíny.

Murder, Chaos, and Craziness lead Detective Josie Quinn to the brink of darkness in The Bones She Buried. This is an action-packed police procedural that brings the drama!

My review is rather vague because I am trying to avoid spoilers!

The 5th book of the Detective Josie Quinn series focuses on a murder that hits Josie close to home. As a result, her relationship with Noah is put to the test, while her bond with her fellow police officers grows.

Per the usual for this series, things get a little out of control and a little over the top in the last 20% of the book. The level of implausibility used to really bother me about this series, but I have now come to expect it! This time around, I found Josie’s actions super frustrating--she makes some terrible decisions and there were several times that I wanted to slap some sense into her. She made bad decisions concerning both her personal and professional life. In the beginning, there is a pretty obvious link presented that relates directly to the murderer, but the police gloss over it. While my book detective skills are pretty stellar, it was such an obvious clue that I couldn’t get past the police not latching on to it!

However, despite these issues, I still really enjoyed The Bones She Buried. It’s fast-paced and easy to read. I have really grown to care about the characters in this series. Josie’s character, while frustrating, continues to develop with every installment. Everything wraps up nicely, but a seed of doubt has been planted and I look forward to seeing how things play out in the next book!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.

When Josie and Noah arrive at his Mother's home for dinner, they find his Mother face down in the dirt of her flower garden. Searching for clues, they find rosaries in the garden and a baggie containing interesting items that initially do not appear to be related hidden in her home. Noah's Mother is a well-liked woman who is a pillar member of society. Her murder is shocking and has everyone who knows her scratching their heads. Like most of the cases in this book series, this murder hits close to home and threatens Josie's relationship with Noah.

I love Lisa Regan books and particularly this series. Josie remains a strong yet flawed character who continues to deal with personal issues while conducting her investigations. She still has some growing to do and I assume that readers will see this over the course of the series. She still tends to act impulsively and uses poor judgement, but again, in future books, I believe there will be more growth. The reader is also shown how Noah, a fellow police officer, is coping with his Mother's death, experiences the grieving process while at the same time knowing the in-place procedures for investigating his Mother's murder.

For me, this book was an incredibly fast read. I was sucked in right away and glued to my seat. I enjoy how Regan weaves her plot and subplots together. There are some twists and turns in this book which some readers may or may not see coming. I always anticipate new books in this series and highly recommend starting at the beginning of this series. Not only are all of the previous boos in this series riveting, but character backstory/ history, character development and story arc are there.

This book was fast paced, captivating, interesting and had me doing my own detective work.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Josie Quinn is back and better than ever!

This is the fifth book in the Josie Quinn police procedural series and it is just as strong if not stronger than the previous books. I have a love hate relationship with this series, I love when a new book is out and I hate waiting for the next book! I mean seriously Lisa Regan can’t you write a little faster? Kidding! Lisa is able to write four stellar books in a year, I am most impressed and I can’t possibly complain. Although after this ending I am more than eagerly anticipating book six!

The book starts off with Josie and Noah about to go have dinner at Noah‘s mothers house, Noah‘s mother hasn’t exactly warmed up to Josie as of yet. Josie is a girl after my own heart, she is attempting to impress Noah’s mother and ends up burning at least three desserts in the process. This is all quickly forgotten because when they arrive at Noah’s mother’s house they discover her laying face down in the dirt without a pulse. It turns out Collette (Noah‘s mother) has been murdered suffocated with the soil in her garden, a terrible way to go. The house has been searched, what was the killer looking for? Why would anyone possibly want to kill sweet Collette? Josie discovers some hidden items that might have something to do with the murder, but how are they linked? That’s all I’m giving to you about the plot, don’t want to spoil anything.

Josie is a great character, she has grown so much over the course of these books, but she still does some pretty foolish things. There was One or maybe two times during this book I wanted to reach through the pages and shake some sense into her. I’m glad she has Trinity in her life now to tell her what’s what. I was happy to see all the characters from the previous books, it’s like visiting old friends. I especially liked seeing Gretchen again after the previous book where all her dark secrets were revealed, she is probably my favorite after Josie. I have a saucepot for Noah as well, however he did frustrate me a bit in this book, had to remind myself that he had just lost his mom a couple times. There are a few new characters introduced and I am curious to see how they develop and what part they play in the series.

Once again I had a brilliant time playing detective along with Josie and the gang! I will be enthusiastically awaiting the next book in this wonderful series! Recommend!

*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book ***

Book five in this great series opens very dramatically when Noah and Josie discover the murdered body of his mother at her home. Noah struggles badly with the death and refuses to believe anyone would murder her. While he is on compassionate leave he goes to stay with his family, leaving Josie, Gretchen and Mett to discover who would do such a thing and why. There are several more murders, lots of solid police investigation, and many very tense moments. Poor Josie is determined to find the killer while coping with the fact that Noah appears to be rejecting her.

All of the books in this series so far have been really good but this one takes things to a different level. I found it almost impossible to put down, desperate as I was to find the solution to the mystery and to see Josie and Noah back where they should be. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys this genre. Five stars .

I received a free e-copy of The Bones She Buried (Detective Josie Quinn #5) by Lisa Regan from NetGalley for my honest review.

Wow, wow, wow, Lisa Regan did it again! Another brilliant book, action-packed characters and non-stop action in this police procedural. Lisa Regan has become one of my favorite authors. I honestly hope this series never ends.

Josie and Noah head to Noah's mother's (Colette) house for dinner. When they arrive, they find her home had been ransacked and Colette face down in her garden with a mouth full of dirt. Who would want to hurt sweet, amazing Colette? The medical examiner said the cause of death was asphyxiation. Josie, is helping with the investigation along with Mettner and Gretchen. Gretchen is still on desk duty so she has to help from there.

Noah's pregnant sister, Laura, arrives with her husband and adds a lot of tension and stress onto Josie. Poor Josie is trying to be a good girlfriend, a great detective and now she has to deal with Laura's over-bearing and mean behavior.

As Josie and the team continues to investigate the murder, the clues just keep leading to other people who are murdered. Was Colette really the Saint everyone thought she was? Did she have a secret that she was hiding? A secret that got her killed? But what about the other people who have turned up murdered as well? How are they connected? Will Josie and the team solve this case? Will Josie and Noah's relationship make it through this trying time and his difficult sister? You have to read this book to find out, and I promise you will be glad you did. You can read this book as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the entire series because it is extraordinary.

A murdered Mother, threatened relationship and a hunt for a killer

The action continues here right from the start when Josie and Noah find his mother murdered. Grief and Josie’s drive to find the killer causes some fiction here in this story. Just when I thought Josie was catching a break the murder threatens her relationship and some of Josie’s flaws start to come out. And there I was again yelling at the characters.

The twists and turns keep coming and I started along with Josie spinning in circles trying to follow the leads and clues. In the end I thought everything came together quite well with the case. Now for Josie well I can’t wait for the next book in the series. My fingers are crossed for her!!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for my copy to read and review.

Josie Quinn is investigating a case that is close to her heart. Her boyfriend's mother is found face down in the garden... her mouth clogged dirt. There are rosary beads half buried next to her.

Her house has evidently been searched ... what were they looking for? As Josie and her team searches the house, they find a hidden cache with items belonging to three different men .. 2 have been missing for years, another man found dead, also years ago.

Was Noah's mother a part of these cases? What did she know about the missing men?

Josie has her hands full .... trying to find a killer, Noah is completely devastated about his mother's death and Noah's sister trying to come between them ... and succeeding.

As someone tries to burn down Noah's house .. with him and Josie in it ... and relatives and friends of the missing men dying sometimes moments before Josie can question them, Josie realizes the killer is one step ahead. Just how deep is Josie prepared to dig for the truth?

This is an extremely well crime fiction. This is an excellent addition to the existing series. Although 5th in the series, it is easily read as a stand alone, but as usual I highly recommend starting at the very beginning. I have found this author's writing to be sharp and precise with memorable characters. It's an action-packed page turner from start to surprising ending.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of THE BONES SHE BURIED. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

the setup…
Detectives Josie Quinn and Noah Fraley have dated now for a year and it’s brought out the best in both. They arrive at his mother’s house for their monthly dinner and find a horrific scene with Colette Fraley face down in her back yard and non responsive. As Josie begins CPR, she discovers that Colette’s mouth is stuffed with soil. She continues the chest compressions until paramedics arrive and pull her away, pronouncing her death. This woman didn’t have a known enemy in the world so it’s already confounding. But when Josie later discovers a curious set of objects hidden away in the house, it sets her on a puzzling and dangerous path towards astonishing revelations.

the heart of the story…
The police procedurals here were excellent as starting only with an obscure set of clues around those objects was akin to working in complete darkness. With Detective Gretchen Palmer sidelined to desk duty, Josie is on her own with a partner who’s being groomed for promotion to detective. Noah is in shock and is resentful of Josie want to work the case. It’s another thorny situation for the department with a prickly new chief.

the narration…
Kate Handford is handily managing this series and I’m loving everything about her performance.

the bottom line…
I enjoy trying to solve these mysteries but had to admit defeat on this one. There was a plethora of suspects, all viable, but motive was elusive. Finally, I just relaxed and followed the procedurals, a satisfying consolation as Josie is clever and skilled despite the many obstacles. And Gretchen deftly worked the sidelines, staying inbounds to avoid trouble. The conclusion was riveting and plausible, taking a toll on Noah and Josie’s fledgling relationship. Still loving this series!

Detective Josie Quinn and her partner, also a detective, headed to Noah’s mother’s for dinner. They had no idea that the next few hours would change their lives and those of Noah’s family members for good. As Josie worked desperately to save Colette while Noah called 911, the arrival of paramedics made them both realise it was fruitless. Noah’s beloved mother was dead…

With Noah on compassionate leave and in the care of his sister Laura, Josie and her team began searching for answers. But as the body count rose, so did their suspicions about Colette and her past. It seemed she had held secrets that someone was killing for. Were her children in danger? Josie knew the race was on, but the facts just weren’t adding up. Plus, the length of time which had passed since the first disappearances made it seem the truth would be insurmountable.

Would Josie, Gretchen and Mett find enough evidence to follow the cold trail? Would it lead to Colette’s killer? Or were they destined to think the worst about Noah and Laura’s mother?

The Bones She Buried is the 5th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and once again I loved it! Intense, gritty and with a rapid-fire pace, it was unputdownable! Josie Quinn is an excellent character; strong, always determined, caring and a great leader. It’s not often I agree with the publishers’ comparisons, but in this case, in my opinion, Angela Marsons and Lisa Regan write similarly exceptional crime thrillers. This is definitely a series I’ll be continuing with 😊Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

EXCERPT: As they passed through the back door, Noah called out again 'Mom?'

Their feet sunk into the lush grass as they stopped to scan the large back yard. A tall white fence lined with blooming flower beds marked the perimeter, and a small wooden shed sat in one corner. Josie took a step in the direction of the patio in the centre of the yard that was crowded with heavy metal furniture, her eyes tracing every inch of the garden. With a gasp, she pointed to something sticking out of one of the beds in the far corner. 'Oh my god, Noah. Is that....?'

The words died in her throat as she sprinted across the yard, Noah behind her.

Colette was on her stomach, her upper body in the flower bed, her protruding feet the only thin visible at a distance. Up close, Josie immediately noticed the gardening gloves on her hands and a small handheld shovel in the dirt a few inches away.

'Mom!' Noah cried, panic ringing in his voice. He dropped to his knees, and Josie fell to hers beside him. Together they rolled Colette onto her back. Her eyes were closed and dirt smudged her cheeks and clothes. Cold seeped from Colette's body into Josie's hands as her fingers searched Colette's neck for a pulse, but found nothing.

Noah was already leaning into her chest, one hand on top of the other, fingers laced, giving her compressions. As he counted out thirty presses, Josie angled Colette's chin so that her mouth was open, and pinched her nostrils closed.

'Now!' Noah urged her as he stopped pumping.

Josie's mouth closed over Colette's and she exhaled into her, trying to inflate Colette's lungs. Something fetid and granular stuck to Josie's lips, and the air wasn't moving through to Colette's chest like it should. Coughing, she sat back up and wiped her mouth.

'What are you doing? Jesus, Josie. Keep going. We have to save her,' Noah cried.

He pushed her out of the way and sealed his lips over Colette's, but after one breath, he also pulled away, coughing and spitting onto the ground.

'It's soil,' Josie said. 'Jesus, Noah, it's soil!'

ABOUT THIS BOOK: Arriving with her partner Noah for dinner at his family’s immaculate countryside home, Detective Josie Quinn is devastated to find Noah’s mother, Colette, lying lifeless in the back garden, her mouth clogged with soil.

Searching the house for answers, Josie’s team don’t know what to make of the rosary beads buried in the dirt near the body, or the hidden file labelled “Drew Pratt”, the small town of Denton’s most famous missing person.

As she delves deeper into Pratt’s case, Josie quickly discovers he had a brother whose body mysteriously washed up on the banks of a river. There’s also a diary entry suggesting that Colette may have met him on the last day he was seen alive. Can Josie believe the unthinkable, that a kind old soul like Colette might have been involved in their murders? And, will Josie’s new relationship with Noah survive the accusation?

Josie’s only hope lies in tracking down Pratt’s daughter. But when she arrives at her home to find she’s been murdered just minutes before, Josie knows the real killer is one step ahead and won’t stop until Colette’s secret is buried forever. With many more innocent lives on the line, how deep is Josie prepared dig to reach the truth?

MY THOUGHTS: I will never live in any town where Detective Josie Quinn works. This woman attracts trouble, weirdos, and maniac's like iron filings to a magnet. And while this makes for a great read, things do sometimes get just a little OTT and unbelievable, hence the four not five stars for a book that I read overnight just because it was so exciting!

This is a series best read from the beginning because I believe that the reader needs to understand the dynamics of the relationships, and Josie's personal history, to get the best from these books. But, believe me, it is no hardship. The books are all quick and easy reads, entertaining in their own twisted way, and the characters become compelling.

Josie doesn't always make the best choices, either professionally or personally, and although she has matured somewhat over the previous books, her lack of judgement again provides this book with plenty of material and interest.

Regan has the knack of weaving seemingly unconnected occurrences together to form a tight and twisty plot that keeps the reader glued to the page.

A highly recommended series.

The Bones She Buried is the fifth book in the Detective Josie Quinn series, and well I never, it's even damn better than the previous instalments; in fact, it's one of the best police procedurals/thrillers I've happened upon in a long time, and that's quite an accolade given the amount I read. Once again, as in previous novels in the series, the crime hits incredibly close to home creating an unwelcome merging of Josie's personal and professional lives and a conflict of interest which certainly adds a different, original slant on proceedings.

I found that it captured my attention immediately and it never wavered at any point. The plot is truly gripping with some exceptional twists and turns, and I love how Ms Regan doesn't show her hand too soon and let the cat out of the bag; a mistake many more experienced authors make. It's an all-action extravaganza and as unpredictable as they come. Believe me, you won't guess the outcome of this beauty easily. This is a highly entertaining, top-notch and impossible to put down read, couple that with an intelligent, feisty female protagonist and you've got an unmissable five-star page-turner. I look forward to the next instalment.

Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC.

My gosh, Lisa Regan has done it once again! I am such a fan of this ladies writing and the Josie Quinn series is just so addictive. I can't believe that this is book 5 already. So much has happened in these books and I eagerly await the next instalment every time. Josie is a brilliant character. She is so strong considering what has happened to her in her life. She is a great detective who just can't let anything go until she gets to the truth. In this book she struggles with being a cop and being the supportive girlfriend, just wanting to do the right thing and find the killer as well as being there for Noah and his family. I hope that there is plenty more Josie to come, I don't think I will ever be tired of this series.

This time the case is personal to her boyfriend and fellow cop Noah. On arriving at his mothers house for dinner one night they can tell immediately that something's is wrong. The house has been turned over and Colette is nowhere to be found. When they do find her face down in the garden it is clear that she is dead, and that it is not from natural causes. Noah and his family are devasted, Colette was a kind, well loved women, who would want her dead. Josie and her colleges start investigating and find some items in the house that link to missing people from the past. How is Collette connected to them and did she know something that got her killed.

The way this book tied up in the end came as a real shock to me, I certainly didn't pick it. We are lead on a journey with Josie though Collettes past and this at time puts a strain on. Her relationship with Noah. Staying professional she knows that she needs to get to the bottom of this case, no matter what she might find.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

I just love this series! Josie is a hardworking, workaholic and this gets her into some trouble with Noah when his mother is murdered. She wants to do everything possible to find the killer and Noah just needs the support of his girlfriend. Why would anyone want to murder Colette? What secrets was she hiding from her family? Was there a long ago murder that she was involved in? All of these questions are what Josie tries desperately to answer before someone else is killed.

I would read the books in order as there are a lot of characters that intermingle throughout the books and the backstory is very interesting.

As I read my way through this series I am more and more caught up in the plots and the characters. Detective Josie Quinn is now in a series relationship with Noah, a fellow Detective. I have some problems with this, but Noah is kind and steadfast. A pillar of strength that Jose can hold onto in her turbulent life. Well, he was that until this book. When Noah and Josie discover Noah's mother dead in her backyard, Noah reacts not at all as I would have expected him to. He shuts Josie out and is critical of her and all she wants to do is solve this murder.

With little to start with and clues that lead to dead ends, Josie is persistent in follow what they have. The biggest being a hidden flash drive labeled "Drew Platt", who is a long cold missing person's case. Peeling away the layers is what Josie does best, and this case has many of them and all are connected to Noah's mom in some way.

Josie and Noah arrive at Noah's mother's house for Sunday dinner and find her dead. Why would anyone murder Colette Fraley? She was an upstanding member of the community with no known enemies. Josie helps search Colette's home and finds a bag of strange items hidden in her sewing machine. One item is a computer thumb-drive with "Pratt" written on it. Drew Pratt was the local District Attorney who disappeared over ten years ago. His whereabouts were never discovered. Josie looks into the Pratt disappearance and learns that he was last seen talking to an unknown woman. Was it Colette? Other items in the bag tie Colette to other people who died mysteriously. Did Colette have something to do with their deaths?

This is the 5th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. I found it enthralling, especially since the character of Drew Pratt is based on real life Center County District Attorney Ray Gricar who disappeared mysteriously in 2005. I wanted to know how the author would solve the Pratt case since the Gricar case is still open.

Noah is devastated by his mother's death. His family descends on the small town demanding to know who killed Colette. Josie needs to support Noah while trying to help solve the case. There was a lot going on in this book with a series of deaths tied to the items that Colette had hidden. It was interesting to see how everything fell into place. My rating: 5 Stars.

This really isn't much of a whodunit as it is a what and why. It was pretty easy, for me anyway, to separate the bad guys from the good guys. With one exception. A surprise little twist at the end. The story revolves around a series of murders in the present day and cold cases from the past.

The story opens with Josie and her boyfriend, Noah, preparing to visit his mother for dinner. When they arrive they find the house in disarray, no signs of a dinner, and Noah's mother facedown in her garden in the backyard. She had been brutally murdered. Her mouth stuffed with dirt. Colette spent her days cooking, tending her garden, quilting, going to church. Who would want to kill her?

Josie starts investigating Colette's murder and soon discovers links to a cold case. A district attorney, Drew Pratt, disappeared and the case was never solved. Soon other people linked to Pratt start dying. Clearly someone is trying to prevent Josie and her team from learning the truth. They appear to be one step ahead of Josie and will kill anyone connected to the Pratt case before Josie even has a chance to talk to them.

The murder of Colette threatens Josie's relationship with Noah. He is grieving at the loss of his mother and is looking for solace from his girlfriend. Josie throws herself into her work. She is looking to catch the person who murdered Colette. Josie doesn't have a great track record when it comes to relationships. The arrival of Noah's pregnant sister, Laura, only adds to the tension.

As the story evolves it was not too difficult to pick out the bad guys. What kept the story going and the pages turning was trying to figure out what and why. What happened to Drew Pratt? What is Colette's connection? What secrets is someone trying to keep buried? Why now? Pratt disappeared decades ago.

I really enjoy this series and the characters. Josie, Noah, Gretchen Palmer. The stories keep me turning the pages. I plan on finishing a chapter and go to bed because I have to get up and work the next day but wind up having to read the next chapter to find out what happened. When I finish a book I find myself looking forward to reading the next book in the series. And worrying that at some point I will have read the last book in the series and find myself having to wait for Lisa Regan to write the next one.

This was more of a mystery than a thriller but what a mystery it was. There were so many moving parts it was hard to keep track.

Detective Josie Quinn and Detective Noah Fraley become an official couple in the last book. This book starts with them heading over to Colette Fraley’s place (Noah’s mum) for lunch. They arrive to find her place ransacked and Colette is not inside. They find her in the back garden. Dead. Murdered. This sets off a chain of events that includes more murders and uncovers links to a number of other deaths spanning decades.

Josie and the other detectives follow a tortuous path of dead ends and more questions and tenuous linkages to the past. The placement of the final jigsaw pieces and the uncovering of a decades old crime was really very well done. I couldn’t see how it would all fit together but the author pulled it off beautifully. Another enjoyable book in this series.

The Bones She Buried is the 5th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series but can be read as a stand-alone. I love this series! Josie's character is one of my favorite female detective lead. Great writing with amazing characters. In this book, you are taken on a rollercoaster ride with plenty of twists and turns and family secrets to keep you on the edge of your seat as the complex storyline will blow you away. The author did a wonderful job of weaving the plot in a way that kept me from being able to guess what would happen next. I truly had no idea how this was going to pan out and the ending was brilliant and came together so well.

I definitely recommend this reading this whole series. Can't wait for the next one.

4 strong female detective stars to this one

It’s hard to believe this is the fifth book in this series. I read the first three as part of a binge read and it was a great way to kick off this series. I do like that Lisa Regan writes these books quickly, so as a reader I don’t lose track of the characters. This one again features detectives Josie and Noah, this time with a murder too close to home.

A detailed police procedural, I followed along with the clues involving missing people, long-buried secrets, murder, and arson. Josie and her team work as quickly as they can to prevent even more mayhem to get to the bottom of this case. I had a few suspicions along the way, but I certainly didn’t have it all figured out. It’s fun to have so many characters from previous books (like Gretchen) play a part in this one. New characters are introduced, and I wonder what part they might play in the next installment. These books contain a quick, engrossing story and I enjoy seeing a strong policewoman at work.

I still want to read some of Lisa Regan’s earlier works.

What a tragic beginning to a enthralling story! Stressed out, but happy to be with her partner Noah Fraley, Detective Josie Quinn is headed to his mother's for dinner. Devastatingly, thy discover Noah's mother, Colette, dead in the back garden. Shocked, weary and full of disbelief, Noah is beside himself. Josie is in full cop mode. She desperately looks for the killer.

Josie must act fast, because things look very, very bad. Upon searching through Colette's home, a hidden file is called and it is labelled "Drew Pratt". This puts a difficult layer on whatever has happened to Colette. The woman was practically a saint. However, there was a lot of damaging things turned up and it seems Colette was involved in nefarious activities.

Can Josie track down anyone related to Pratt? Unfortunately, inasmuch as they locate Pratt's daughter, she, too, has been murdered. What was Colette keeping secret? Well, these murders proved to be only the tip of the iceberg. To say more would definitely be adding spoilers.

With Josie investigating Colette's background it is no surprise that this wedges a gap between her and Noah. So, this crime thriller has a great emotional edge. All the while, secrets and lies are being exposed. I have read two of the books in this compelling series. Although it has been months, when I read the first two or three lines, I clearly remembered Josie, Noah, Gretchen and others. I felt a strong sense of connection as I moved deeper into the pages of this book.

I love Lissa Regan's style of writing. It is sharp, It is affecting. The ending was a shocker, a true shocker. It left me wanting for more.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Loved it.

If you've read the previous books in this series, picking this one up is a no-brainer.

Each book is fully self-contained, but Josie Quinn and her family and co-workers have ongoing character arcs worth following. So do start from the beginning if you haven't already.

Police procedural thrillers were never my genre, but this series has me converted. Very highly recommended.

Do I like this series? Yes cause the murder mystery are great! But this authors really needs to up her game in the personal aspects.

BRUTAL! TORTURE!
2⭐️⭐️cause as always I like the suspense and mystery but this one…. Damn what was the author thinking.

-This was horrible for many reasons but mainly cause I guess this author likes to do innvation of the body snatchers when it suits her.

-6 months after book 4

-Josie and Noah Dating for a year now.
Noah mom dies and he becomes Ray and Luke 2.0….. GREAT! So we can’t trust any man in Josie’s life. As soon as things get tough they will turn on her and betray their relationship. Fantastic! I’m so glad this author gives us zero romance and then destroys any romance we do get.
-At least he didn’t cheat!

-Noah?! No just no!
He is mean and cruel and pushes her away. Eventually breaks ups with her. Blames her for shit his mom got herself into.
It’s not a good sign of the future. His behavior is a HUGE red flag 🚩 and years from now she will just be with yet another man just like both her exes. Cheating and giving up when times get rough.

-Again I think Josie is too much of a doormat for the men in her life. She has poor taste in men unfortunately. Don’t think I can SHIP Noah and Josie anymore…. We will see.

-And where’s the communication? They never really talk about the serious hurts they cause each other. That’s not a way to grow. We need deeper resolution

-The story was good but I couldn’t get past how horrid Noah was to enjoy it.

-Then Luke shows up? Great let’s add another selfish asshole to the mix. But I don’t even care cause Noah was so bad that I wanted her to straight up dump him. But fat chance of that since she is a doormat.
I mean how many times does he have to tell you to leave and how many unreturned calls and text before you take the hint? Love isn’t being a doormat for abuse.

At the very least he comes back towards the end and apologized and admitted he acted badly which is more than the other two douche bags she was with. So I’ll give him that. And the fact that he did come back and do apologize. Maybe I’ll ship them but he better be swoon worthy after this shit.

P.S. I actually LOVE Noah in the rest of the series he is amazing and is great w a Josie but damn this book pissed me off.

3.5 stars

The Bones She Buried by Lisa is the 5th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background: (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Josie Quinn has finally, and with relief, given up the Acting Chief of Police position in Denton, Pennsylvania. She’s back to being a detective and happy. She is learning to love her new-found family, but it is keeping her busy. So is dating Detective Noah Fraley.

My Synopsis:
When Noah’s mother Collette is murdered while digging in her garden, Josie has her hands full. Trying to look after Noah is a nightmare since his sister doesn’t want her there. Even Noah, in his grief, is not happy with her. So she goes back to trying to find his mother's murderer. Unfortunately this doesn’t win her any points with the family either.  They are not happy with the questions that Josie is asking.

Questions abound, because Collette had a secret, and people are dying to cover it up. Josie is going to have to go back in time to unbury the truth.

My Opinions:
It was interesting to learn a bit about Noah’s background in this one. The author is very good at developing her characters. Josie is a strong female lead. Apparently she has the patience of Job. I would have laid into Noah’s sister or at least walked away a number of times. That part was almost unbelievable. I wish Josie’s grandmother would be more involved. She’s a really likable character. As well, I like the close friendship that has developed between Josie and Gretchen. It feels real.

There was a lot of action, so that usually leads to a fast read. However, it was a complex plot which was slow to reveal itself, a little too slow for my liking. Although I had an idea early on as to who was to blame, the motive eluded me for a while. As well, there didn’t seem to be any real “thrill” moment for me. I also think the “Luke” scenes were unnecessary to the plot, unless the author plans on bringing him back into Josie’s life.

Although this could be read as a stand-alone novel, so much has happened in past books that lead to these characters development, that I would recommend reading the first four books prior to reading this one.

This one just didn’t excite me as all the others have. It’s good, but not great. I am, however, looking forward to the next one.

Beoordeling: 4,0 ⭐

After finishing each book by this author I have read up till now, I was left gobsmacked. This one had the same effect on me. I don’t know how she does it, but she manages it over and over again.

I love Josie Quinn. Her background makes her an even more interesting person and that adds some extra pizzazz.

The prologue of the book already turned my blood cold. The author keeps you waiting for a very long time before she reveals what happened, because during the biggest part of the story you wonder how and where it fits in. I like that very much. It certainly makes sure you are alert 🙂

One of the characters really got on my nerves because of the way he acted. I was very pleased to find out that he was one of the culprits. Way to go, Lisa LOL.

In my opinion the author has created a great series and I hope she is not ready to say goodbye to the Denton police department for a very long time. I most certainly am not.

I will be counting the days until book 6. 5 stars.

Thank you, Lisa Regan, Bookouture and Netgalley.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Bones She Buried, the fifth novel to feature detective Josie Quinn of the Denton, Pennsylvania PD.

When Josie and her boyfriend, Noah Fraley turn up his mother Colette’s for dinner they find her face down in the garden dead, her mouth stuffed with soil. Treating it as murder Josie and the team find links to the Pratt brothers, one of whom is dead and the other the most famous missing person case in Denton.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Bones She Buried which is an exhilarating read, full of twists and turns. It is non stop action as Josie struggles to keep up and make sense of the developing events. I defy any reader to accurately guess the outcome as Ms Regan builds her plot gradually, not giving away too much too soon. It definitely works as I was hooked and then totally absorbed from start to finish. If you want to be a purist then the plot is highly improbable but to counter that it is very entertaining and that’s my main criterion when reading.

I like Josie and her appetite for solving her cases. In this instance it causes friction between her and Noah when his mother comes under suspicion. I know it’s unfair of me to judge him when he’s weighed down by grief but frankly he behaves like a prima donna, shutting Josie out.

The Bones She Buried is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Josie Quinn is one heck of a detective but when it comes to her personal relationships what a mess.

It's been 4 years since Josie's cop husband Ray went dirty and was murdered. Since that time she was engaged to Luke who worked for the state police but he also betrayed both her and his badge. She then started dating fellow cop Noah Fraley. Noah's mother has never really warmed up to Josie but she continues to try with her and that included going to her monthly dinners with her kids. What Josie and Noah didn't expect to find when they arrived at her house was her dead in her garden. It didn't take long to realize she had been murdered.

This kicks off one heck of a police investigation that goes back to the 70's and coinciding with Josie and her team's investigation are more murders that are obviously to cover up whatever happened a long time ago that Noah's mother must have had evidence on.

For every thread they pulled in the case it lead to another and with the bodies piling up of potential witnesses the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very end.

This series has always been shocking and exciting at the same time. It's also very unconventional in the romance department. Josie is certainly not your average heroine. Even though her personal life stresses me out I do look forward to seeing where the author is going to take her next.

Loved it!!! Lisa Regan writes characters that you just want to stay apart of your reading world for a long time. Bones She Buried is the fifth in the Josie Quinn series. Like all the rest in this series I could not put it down. Josie does not have the best track record with romance but is a Sherlock Josie when it comes to being a great detective. Regan not only bring amazing characters but twists and turns in the plot that keeps the reader turning pages to get to the end. Once you get to the end; the title will become clear. "A copy of this book was provided by Bookouture via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS JOSIE SERIES!
