Ava Ruth Campbell doesn’t want to admit that her heart hasn’t ridden itself of Grant Wilder in the last fifteen months. After the last year of self-growth, of time spent healing to be the best version of herself, the last thing she wants is a reminder of that weak girl she was when Grant was in her life.
But then he unexpectedly shows up at her graduation. Then she makes a rash decision to go over to his place, drunk and messy, on her birthday. Then she overhears Grant telling his fiancée nine devastating words that split her heart wide open. Nine words that seal their fate for good.
But it’s fine, everything is fine. She’s never going to see Grant again. Until his sister, Annie, offers her a job to nanny her three children. It's a job offer she can’t refuse, doesn’t want to refuse.
At first, it’s fine. Grant and Ava avoid each other at all costs, and it seemingly works until Annie invites Ava to join the Wilder family in Montauk for a week, spending sun-kissed days at their beach house. With the forced proximity Ava and Grant are subjugated to, they are forced to interact and soon realize that friendship between them might be an option after all.
So, friends, it is. Until it becomes painfully obvious that they both want—need—more. Grant would give up everything to be with her, but that's the problem. Will Ava be able to stand her ground in denying them a second chance together to protect Grant’s future?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Mima began writing The Path of a Logical Liar sitting at a retail cashier’s desk with her iPad and a portable Bluetooth keyboard. Three years later and she’s excited for the world to finally meet Grant and Ava. In her spare time, Mima enjoys cooking, scrolling through Tik Tok and surfing the Zara website. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and son.
MY GIRL MIMA back at it with a much needed sequel after the first book left us with an insane cliffhanger. I was desperate to know how Ava and Grant's story continued / ended, so this book was everything I wanted and more.
Their story definitely hit too close to home in way too many ways, and I felt like I was literally reading about my own past relationship throughout the book, the similarities were just uncanny. But I'll take those hits to show that Mima knows exactly how to tug at your heartstrings and how to write some really deep, raw, emotional, and complex characters. She really went all out and I loved it and I love her. I'm sad I won't be getting more of Ava and Grant BUT I'm so happy with where their story ended.
Side note: Mima loves me so much she named a character after me AND mentioned me in the acknowledgements (kidding about the naming a character after me, but technically my name is in the book twice so I'm going to take that as a double win). I mean COME ON how cool is that!!
Book 2 (Lover 5/5): Why do you care about me so much?” The word much doesn’t fully leave my mouth before Grant replies, “Because you’re perfect. You’re a beautiful person. Sometimes, it feels like you were made for me. Like God handed you to me and said, ‘This one is yours now. Take care of her.’”
If you love second chance romance, grumpy/sunshine, angst, strangers to lovers to strangers to friends to best friends to lovers… well this book is perfect for you (after you read the first book, the path of a logical liar, ofc)
♥️MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD ♥️
This book made me fall in love with Grant and Ava’s love all over again, I was embarrassingly giggling uncontrollably after Grant dropped some jaw-dropping romantic a*s lines, and not to mention the ugly sobbing. Grant and Ava’s love for each other is so pure and real. Relationships don’t go from point a to point b without fights and saying words that you didn’t mean. Ava and Grant fought through real issues and underlying trauma that takes an impacting toll.
Character building while keeping the romantic heart wrenching parts perfectly intertwined was a major green flag for this book.
Fertility (TW) is a huge topic discussed in this book. Typically the male character’s feelings is given priority all throughout a book where a female is infertile. But the whole time, Grant? He loved Ava whether she was able to have a baby or not. His love for her was not based on whether or not she could have his children. Rather the fertility topic delves into how she (the actual person impacted) accepts that her infertility is not just something she can brush off. She so badly wants to be able to have kids and share in that experience of pregnancy like so many women who are infertile. She faced guilt for her inability to conceive and taking away a family from Grant. However, she was also mourning the loss of being able to experience a pregnancy with the love of her life. It was truly awe-inspiring to see such a strong character who has faced so much trauma and obstacles in life tackle on her own insecurities with infertility. Grant supported her through it even though she didn’t want to take him away from building a family with someone else. He still fought for her through everything because she was always going to be his future. No matter whether that future included a plethora of children or no children at all. Grant never for a moment doubted Ava’s place in his life. He just needed to find a way to grovel just a little bit to show her truly how much she means to him. Some may say that Ava forgave Grant way too quickly but if a man as hot, selfless, and rich treated me so well afterwards, I would forgive him immediately too.
These two idiots are simply sacrificing their own happiness for the others happiness even tho they should be two happy idiots in love together. They can be so dumb but they truly are just so love-able.
Grant and Ava are simply soulmates, destined to be with each other in every life through every obstacle.
My only critique is that it’s the end of their story.
P.S. This is the first book I’ve reviewed on here so I literally have no idea what I’m doing. I truly just had to review this phenomenal book. Thank you for listening to my rant.

Hmmm. I guess u can say what grant did is somewhat redeemable. I saw this coming like I said the reconciliation and getting back tgt betrayal again bla bla bla. Overall i did enjoy the writing style, so one star for that. Next, I would’ve preferred if they didn’t get back tgt, but they were their other half and stuff so they were bound to be tgt anyway. Overall the book was okay. Did cry abit ngl or maybe it’s just my period idk. Anyways since it did better that the first book I’m gonna give it 3 stars ⭐️
