She's the only dragonrider in the world of Ellos. The empire wants her dead. But her dragon's snarky sense of humor might kill her first.
***This complete collection has 2400+ pages of action-packed adventure, complete with a fire-breathing dragon, horrendous betrayals, brave heroes and heroines, and villains who will make you hiss. All taking place in a fully imagined world of great wonder.***
Carmen is an assassin.
She’d love to say she just graduated with honours, but that’s not how it worked out. First, the empire declared war on assassins. Next, there was a horrible betrayal at assassin school.
Then a snarky, dangerous dragon came into her Brax.
He loves books, goats and fighting against mortals and dragons alike. He’s also an outcast prince with his own dark secrets. And there's no way he'll submit to having a rider.
A deal is struck that changes their lives forever.
An assassin riding a dragon should be safe, but the emperor is hot on their heels. As the free realms fall, Carmen and Brax are on the run, desperately searching for a way to stop this war. They set off on a journey that will lead them through the mortal realms of Ellos, to Drachia—the land of dragons—and to the mysterious homeland of the outcast wizards and witches. They may have found the help they need.
But it turns out that help is as dangerous as the emperor himself.
This boxed set contains all five novels of the Dragon Assassin series. 1. Twin Fury 2. Royal Blood 3. Burning Empire 4. Downfall 5. Deathwings

I read this full set of twelve books in one go. Usually with a set as big as this I will read half of them, then they get a bit samey so I stop, read a couple of different authors or genres and then maybe go back to them, there have been a couple of sets I have not bothered going back to at all. However this one I couldn't have stopped reading if I wanted to. It was a great read. Twins Carmen and Corwin were left by their parents as babies outside the Red Assassins School as they could not afford to care for them along with their other children on their small pig farm. They were taken in and brought up by initially the kitchen staff, they would help with minor chores in return for their keep when they were old enough. The teaching staff there happened to have noticed them and seen something in them which they thought would make them worth training to become red assassins. Carmen excelled in her studies and her fighting skills, Corwin was always slightly behind her and was quite resentful. Then during a training session Corwin accidentally slashed across Carmen's face and took out her eye. From here on there is more of a rivalry between them and Corwin also becomes more secretive and sticking with just two friends, all three of them were up to something, and when the night of the Graduation comes and the whole school is overcome with killers other than the assassins, they killed most of the staff, pupils and the swans that were trained to be ridden in warfare. Carmen gets away and she goes to hide out in the cave of a Dragon, Brax, who she saved from death earlier. Brax is brilliant, he is funny, sarcastic, but very loyal to Carmen. The adventures and trouble they get into throughout these books are great, they meet with many other tribes of different beings, many of whom have been enemies of the dragons, and they try to get them to change their point of view and help them to save the five regions and bring them together before an evil empire takes them over. One of the best series of books I have read and I am now a follower of Arthur Slade.
All the books and adventure and no waiting between. Carmen's own brother injures her, and who knows if it's on purpose or not, because she was doing better than all her classmates (fellow assassins) before it. Will Carmen lose her chance at becoming a great assassin now? Can assassins have ethics? I loved this intriguing series, which has plenty of adventure and challenges for Carmen, her dragon friend Brax (who has lots of sarcastic wit to go around) and their friends/allies (who are I enjoyed reading about too). Have they have been charged to do what could be an impossible journey, which will end up breaking them?
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received, and giving my thoughts and opinions on it.
I read all 12 books one after the other, pausing only for sleeping and eating. I haven’t read a great dragon story in years. The story is so good. I loved all the characters, the different countries and cultures, dragons, giants, witches and wizards, assassins, bad guys, good guys. It has it all. Humour, fighting, twists in the tale, adventure, bravery, truth, honour, determination. It’s a great read, do try it.
I loved this series, I was supposed to be unpacking in a new house but it was so hot that I retreated to my one air conditioned room and spent the heat of the day reading ! This series lived up to my expectations of really good escapist stories. What wonderful worlds we visited while cheering Carmen and Brax on through their sometimes hair raising adventures. So pleased I was able to get the whole series . This is an author I shall follow.
This is a really entertaining and enjoyable series. A few dragons with personalities, a few humans with murderous tendencies, a female protagonist and a story that spans worlds that are well described. There are a few touches of real genius, including a house where the floor tiles manipulate time. This series is a really good way to pass a few afternoons if you want to be distracted from the world we actually do live in.
This is a series of coming of age, friendships, bonding, loss and moving on with life
The story begins...and almost ends...with twin orphans being trained as assassins. During the course of the story, they meet many people, make and lose many friends and family members, do things that were never done before.
Enemies are made, some defeated, some turned into allies.
There is humor, drama, a tiny bit of romance, and friendships beyond comprehension.
I had read one of the earlier books a while ago and enjoyed it and so when I saw the entire series for sale I had to jump on buying it. And I am really glad I did. The other books filled in the universe a lot more, there were many new places to visit, like stories of action, magic, dragons, etc. I recommend this series for sure.
Awesome story fully enjoyed the read, the writer takes you on a fantastic journey. I would definitely do the box set straight off as you’re reading it and don’t even realise your finishing books off until the final page. I can’t rate this highly enough, thanks to the author.
I loved this series of books. I hope the author will continue to write stories of Carmen and Brad as they continue to explore their world and others. They make a great team and it would be a shame to end their story. He has built a great world and should continue to use it for Carmen and Brad adventures.
This was a great series, the characters are well developed and the story line captured the imagination At times I laughed, at times I cried…I recommend this series to all who like magic and adventure
Kept me interested all the way thru, and not many series do. I am an avaricious reader, I devour books at a rate of 3-4 a week. I get bored with stories easily but this one didn't disappoint. I can't say that I wouldn't love a dragon friend like Brad for myself.
I really enjoyed this series. Unlike many others I have read, I couldn't anticipate where it was going. Very cleverly written. Thanks Arthur Slade I'm looking forward to the next book from you.
I read about half of this series months ago. But I reread from the beginning just to get in the right mood. I really love the story and appreciate all the hard work that went in to make this such a fun exciting story.
Absolutely loved reading this whole series, never once did I think of stopping reading. All of the characters were spot on. I hadn’t realised until I got to book 10 how far I got, and how quickly. Never wanted this to end, surely there’s more to come! Or maybe spin-offs for different characters.
Every book in this series was incredible. Explosive with adventure and a little underlying romance. I laughed out loud and even shed a tear or four. Highly recommended for all ages.
The series was fun to read. Solicited interest, anger, laughter, sadness and victory. Arthur Slade is creative and entertaining. I will search for additional titles by this author.
Arthur Slades' long winded Dragon Assassin books 1-12 could be reduced in wordage if the books were rereleased as a single volume and all or most of the repeated (irritating) explaining of how plot elements fit into each new book.
Author kept me interested from the first chapter! Has amazing talent to make you laugh out loud and cry real tears! Loved the characters! Human and dragon!
Absolutely fantastic collection and having all the books in one place, was awesome . I definitely binged read. Superb characters that will take on a magical adventure and have you wanting more.
Absolutely breathtaking pure escapist fun. Worldbuilding with a depth and richness far above the norm. Totally mesmerizing, you'll relish every minute.
Really enjoyed this. The books kept getting better. The books were well thought out and well connected. The characters were strong and realistic in their ups and downs.
