I can't get enough of the Weird Girls series so I was beyond thrilled to see this new prequel novella. A Cursed Noel falls after Gone Hunting, another prequel novella that brings a young Aric and Celia together. This time, it is Aric who is sent across time by a hag's magic to save Celia from a great evil and, by so doing, save himself.
It has been two years since Aric's father was killed by a witch's curse. After taking out the witch, Aric's anger was not appeased and he took out all her helpers and has a lust for the blood and killing. It is the only thing that makes him feel alive these days. He's shut out his best friends- Liam, Koda, and Gemini- and his pack. He's lost his way in anger and grief. Until Mimi, the crazy hag, intervenes. She will send Aric to a place and time- and a person- who will break through to him and give him a reason to care. He doesn't understand until he sees he has been sent to Celia. The magic that made them forget each other the first time falls away with this encounter and they are working together once again to thwart an insidious evil.
My heart ached for Aric's pain and grief that the heavy expectation on him never allowed him to acknowledge and work through. The story was bleak at first and so sad until Mimi- I do love her brand of crazy- stepped in. Oh the swoony feels when Aric and Celia were together. Makes me want to re-read all their books. But, oh yes, the humor sprang up when he tried to come over alpha on her and it went wild when the four sisters shared that scene in the backyard.
The action was explosive and just what I've come to expect.
All in all, this novella was full of all the good stuff- action, humor, deep emotions and sexy romance- that I've come to crave from this series. I got much more out of this novella after reading the Weird Girls series and also the Gone Hunting prequel, but, I suppose it could be read out of order. Urban Fantasy lovers need to jump on this series.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Cecy Robson has yet to let me down. I love everyone of her books that I have read. I swear anything she writes would turn to gold, even if it's a simple shopping list. In A Cursed Noel, she proved once again the reason she's on my must read author's list.
The events in A Cursed Noel took place after Gone Hunting. Aric’s father was murdered, and he is not handling the loss well. He buries his pain by slaughtering those who were directly and indirectly responsible for his father’s death. However, the more he kills, the more he spirals out of control. No matter how many vicious monsters he kills, the pain remains, which plunges him into further despair. At his wit’s end on how to handle Aric’s self destruction, his pack mate sought the help of the town hag Mimi.
Mimi casts a spell that will see Aric transported to a different timeline and place. A place where everyone is in the festive holiday mode and where the love of his Celia lives. Celia and her siblings are in peril from an unseen magical force, and Aric is in a race against time to save them and destroy the spell.
In true Robson style, A Cursed Noel delivered a story filled with humour, adventure and magic. It pulls you in and keeps you glued to the pages until the very end.
Since the death of his father, Aric has not been the same. The only person who could calm his soul and help him come to terms with his loss was Celia. This book provides a good place to start for readers new to the series, while fans will get an inside look into their lives prior to the events in Sealed by a Curse.
Celia’s siblings made an appearance and once again Taran had me laughing out loud with her actions and snarky remarks. Once again, it was fun connecting with the characters in their teenage years. Their few years older than when they appeared in Gone Hunting. I enjoyed how they collectively dealt with the threat. A threat, which they knew nothing about until Aric brought it to their attention. The gritty action kept me on the edge of my seat.
It would have been nice if more information was made available regarding the witch responsible for the spell that was cast on Celia and her siblings. The story ended on a bittersweet note and left me craving for more of Aric and Celia.
