Some of the finest science fiction of the day – preparing us for possibilities

Australian author Clayton Graham, born and raised in Stockport, near Manchester UK, earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Salford attaining a Student Apprenticeship with English Electric Aviation. He moved to Victoria, Australia in 1982 and worked as an aerospace engineer, working in the field of efficient lightweight structures and watching them fly around the world. His interest in Science Fiction and where it places humankind within the universe we know and love gave entrance to his short story collections LOOKING FOR LIFE and SILENTLY IN THE NIGHT, his novel SAVING PALUDIS, and his very popular MILIJUN Series, of which ALIEN WHISPERS is the third volume.

Graham’s writing is less interested in the bizarre psychedelic manifestations of thinking beyond our galaxy and instead encouraging us to expand our concepts of what will doubtless one day be discovered. As a reminder of the inception of this series, Graham stated MILIJUN ‘is about more than an alien incursion into the Australian outback. It asks questions about our place in the universe, or multiverses (as we are now led to believe may be a possibility). The novels explore the relationship between a mother and son. How far can it be stretched before the links break? How far would a mother go to save her son? Would she be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, or undertake actions she would never have deemed possible prior to the alien incursion? Above all, Milijun explores the question what would mankind do when faced with an intelligence it cannot understand?’ As the synopsis on this volume explains: ‘A hundred years after her abduction to the alien planet Glieze, Laura Sinclair returns to Earth on a mission to find out what happened to her long-lost husband. But she finds the planet in turmoil under the oppressive regime of the authoritarian Tellurians. Humans are confined to the surface of their world and all extraterrestrial activity is forbidden. Laura is a member of an ancient organization, now led by her son, Jason, which pioneered alien collaboration. From their secretive Martian base, they must find a way to free mankind from brutal tyranny. But one dangerous man stands in their way, a man who’ll stop at nothing to achieve his domination of Earth. Weapons of mass destruction have been forbidden on the planet for a century, but something strange is happening on the moon—and alien insurgents stand ready to take advantage of the chaos. The future of humankind hangs in the balance. With her alien allies and members of Earth’s Underground, Laura must find a way to defeat both the renegade aliens and the overwhelming might of the Tellurian Empire.’

The author’s way with words and his descriptions of both place and characters in this distant and strange encounters and worlds are painted with elegance and authority. He leaves us with not a ‘what if’ attitude, but with a ‘when?’ and that is the essence of a fine science fiction author.

Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion is the long-awaited third installment in the Milijun series by science fiction writer Clayton Graham. It is a century after the events that shook Laura and her son Jason´s world, when aliens appearing out of the blue and abducted them with mysterious intentions.

Laura returns to planet Earth to figure out what happened to her long-lost husband. Backed by her son Jason, now the leader of a longstanding alien organization, she soon realizes that things are not as they once were.

Earth has been taken over by a tyrannical regime—the oppressive Tellurians—with a power-hungry leader seeking world dominion. Humans and their alien allies find themselves oppressed by the current regime with no access to weapons, and their communications closely monitored. In addition, something strange is stirring on the moon where another alien group is actively preparing to take advantage of Earth's precarious situation. Laura finds herself facing not only the Tellurian Empire but also the aliens preying on humankind from the shadows. Will she overcome these dangerous enemies, or will she succumb to whatever fate they have prepared for Earth and the universe?

Author Clayton Graham's worldbuilding is absolutely incredible. Set 250 years in the future, the author had to imagine a world with futuristic problems and what it took to get to that point. Surprisingly enough, while intergalactic and alien elements are integrated into our future, many of our present-day issues are still on these characters´ minds. In terms of the writing, this is a steady, fast-paced novel: one event is followed after the other without dwelling on a single situation. This by no means signifies that it's sloppily written; on the contrary, the author leaves no stone unturned and is incredibly detailed in his descriptions.

The plot is thoroughly engaging, and while it is the third installment in the series, it is a standalone novel, which means that you can read it easily enough without having read the previous books. I would, however, recommend looking through the rest of the series to get a better view of the characters´ growth and history. I highly recommend this book for its great world and storyboarding.

Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion (Milijun Book 3) is perfect for anyone looking for a thrilling read, but especially for die-hard sci-fi fans who will undoubtedly thoroughly enjoy this hidden gem.

Intergalactic politics, or Humanity's fate hinging on the success of a rescue

Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion Milijun, #3 is the third instalment of Clayton Graham's First Contact Series. In this novel, the author showcases a singular mixture of action, adventure and Sci-Fi through very original and riveting prose. Graham's style glues with almost a natural ease a collection of genres that often communes in a similar fashion to the others, but are treated individually. As a general diagnostic of the book, this is one of its more substantial strengths.

The plot interweaves the story of the hurtful loss of the protagonist, Laura Sinclair, the emotional and dramatic core of the whole novel, and the technologies operating as the architecture of the futuristic world created by the author. Bio-robots, cyborgs, hybrid species, and vicious aliens flood the story of a woman on a quest which is a vendetta as it is a rescue.

Graham's exploration of time, matter, distance, and space, articulates the internal logic of the protagonist's purpose, accentuating the tragic components of the plot, and giving the medium and the other characters (and sets of characters —as the Tellurians) enough freedom to gravitate towards the climax. Ancient secrets, secret organisations, intergalactic politics, tyrannical politicians, earth-size reclusion facilities, cosmic h-bombs. All of these dimensions collapse and unfold in Alien Whispers, equating Laura's mission success with the fate of humanity. A must-read for Sci-Fi fanatics.

Help me read more books

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This book was pretty good, only it left me with lots of questions, and not so many answers. That could be because it's book #3 in a series, and I've not read any of the other books in the series prior to reading this one.
If you have read others, and liked them, I'm sure this one will suit you as well. If you haven't, you can still read this book, but you may be left with as many questions as I am when you're done. Lots of things in this book didn't quite make sense to me, what with characters acting as they did based on previous behavior, but having dropped in after two whole books already passed, this could be the problem. There was some interstellar travel, and I for one would like to see more of that, and perhaps get a glimpse at other worlds (not just the ones we got here, including the ending), And, for what it's worth, I didn't feel like the story had a solid ending, more like it solved the current issues, but only well enough to move on to something else in the next book, the solutions didn't really feel complete to me.
But, in any case, if you like this author, then by all means, go grab a copy, the story is worth reading. If you haven't read this author, you probably want to start with book 1 in the series (this one is book 3). You may get a better story that way.

Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion is the third book in the series and is categorized as part of science and action subgenres. The author Clayton Graham intended it for general adult reading and is filled with an intriguing plot of hybrids, aliens, and bio-robots. The protagonist is Laura Sinclair who tries to find her long lost husband after she was abducted for a hundred years. It is funny how time stood still for her because she remained the same while everyone else including her son had transformed. However, the world is in a state of chaos and Laura and her son must observe while they are on Mars as they strategize how to intervene. She discovers that the Tellurians are leading, and they are also in control of humans. Given humanity is resilient, Laura and the rest of the people try to battle to bring justice back to earth. I loved how the characters are well depicted with all the elements of fantasy, thrill, action, and mystery. I specifically liked how the book had an insight on humanity and their future place in the stars, and specific questions on how the aliens will view humanity in the future. The book has some science fiction ideas coupled with fascinating factions and races in their own cultures. It is mind-blowing how the author brought out every detail from start to finish and nothing was overlooked.

A Sci-Fi that Will Keep You Flipping Pages.

After hundred years of her abduction, Laura Sinclair returns to earth in search of her long lost husband. But, when she returns to earth, she figures out that the planet is no longer the same as she left it in the past. In order to proceed with her mission, she must first fight the obstacles on the ground, which makes her mission a lot harder than intended.
Earth was under the control of a brutal Tyranny known as the Tellurians. Part of their mission is to ensure that all extraterrestrial activities are destroyed. Humans are only confined to the surface of their planet and all extraterrestrial activity is forbidden. But Laura Sinclair was a part of an ancient organization that is currently under the leadership of Jason her son, which established the alliance between aliens and humans.
The organization intends to free mankind from the reign of the Tellurians from their Martian base. However, a great obstacle stands in their way—a dangerous man who will stop at nothing but world dominance.
Clayton Graham is no doubt an excellent writer, and he has succeeded in establishing a coexistence between alien species and the human race in this Milijun series. The stories are original and very compelling—it’s something you will easily fall in love with if you are a fan of Sci-Fi genre.

Engaging

Laura Sinclair’s return to earth turns out to be a rollercoaster, as she finds many changes that make her mission harder. She turns to fighting the existing obstacle, as she aims to get information on her husband. The author mixes the interstellar and the earthly aspects to deliver a futuristic yet realistic story, with a fast pace and detail-oriented explanations. Even though there are previous books in the series, you don’t need any pre-introductions to get a grasp of the engaging story, as everything’s set up well for any reader.

The author introduces the characters exceptionally which makes the plot easy to understand, without going too deep into their history, in previous reads. Laura finds many changes when she returns to Earth, and it is a test of character as she reunites with her son and crew. The science-fiction aspect of it gives a probable prediction of what the future could look like, even though it's all mystery and fantasy. The author does well to keep the suspense till the end, while introducing fictional and nonfictional elements clearly, for example, the robots, and hybrids. The tension will keep you reading until the end.

"Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion" wraps up the Milijun Series. This trilogy was laced with adventure and action, as it took the reader through an adventure with twists and turns in search of a future among the stars for humankind and aliens alike. Throughout this series there were surprises that kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out where we were going and who may be friend or foe. We started on Earth's moon and the story continued on to Earth, then to distant space and an alien world, before returning to Mars and Earth.
Clayton Graham does an excellent job holding the reader's attention and providing an interesting adventure with questions and answers that lead to even more questions. The characters are fairly well-developed and identifiable, including the aliens, even if their motives are not always obvious. I wouldn't really classify this as a "hard SF" as most of the aliens' science is so far advanced from human concepts of science that we couldn't understand it. Nevertheless, it all works well and makes a great story. There was not a dull moment in this entire series. I will look for more of Graham's stories that are of a similar nature.

This is the third book in a series, but works well as a stand alone.
Author Graham has created a complex world with many factions. There are two groups of humans on Earth, humans on Mars, two groups in one alien race, another alien race, and hybrids. Then we have several types of bio-robots. Even with all of the moving pieces, Graham does a good job of keeping things clear.
The leaders on Earth have used a heavy hand to stay in power. A crucial part of their plan is to deny the existence of aliens and restrict human space exploration. But their heavy handed tactics have crushed the human spirit and Earth is no longer at its best, with crumbling cities, stagnant technology, and a declining population.
A group of humans, aliens, hybrids and robots from Mars engage the Earth leadership, trying to bring truth, peace, and prosperity to the human race. The story is action packed with a lot of tension. It sparks my curiosity about the other books in the series.

Alien Whispers: Conflict & Communion, is the third book in author Clayton Grahams exciting Milijun sci-fi series. Still following human Laura Sinclair, this installment only solidifies the authors legitimacy in the realm of science fiction, and his ability to draw readers in to a well developed and frankly startling futuristic realm. From page one, it’s easy to get sucked into the political landscape of human and alien cohabitation that brings intense philosophical viewpoints to the front almost immediately.

Unlike others in the genre, Grahams detailed descriptions of landscapes and characters inner thought bring life to the plot rather than filling spaces between it. If you’re a lover of science fiction or fantasy, or anything that can get your blood pumping and your heart racing faster, this book is for you. While I recommend starting with book #1, even starting from book #3 will have you hooked on the action and character development by the end of chapter 2. Don’t hesitate!

I liked that many scenes, especially those happening in outer space, have been described in great detail, so that they are easy enough to visualize even though one may not have ever been to outer space to experience such phenomena first-hand.

Many creative liberties have been taken, making good use of the fact that this is ultimately a piece of fiction. At first glance the number of chapters might seem to be too many, but the plot steadily gathers pace so as to keep the reader glued and occasionally brings in surprising twists in the tale.

The climax is predictable for the most part. The variety of characters and the nature of their relationships with each other can often feel overwhelming to remember throughout the book but I feel it adds to the depth of the storyline. There are many references to real-world locations but one does not really need to have visited those places in order to understand the plot.

"Alien Whispers:Conflict and Communion" by Clayton Graham is an incredibly written sci-fi fiction. It is book three in the series, but a complete read in itself.
The author, with his vivid description, has created an engaging and intriguing plot full of aliens, hybrids and bio-robots. Inspite of being a lengthy read, it keeps the reader hooked and compelled to turn pages.
Rich and well written narrative makes it all the more interesting and satisfying read.
Laura, the protagonist, is on a mission to find about her husband, ultimately undertakes the operation of rescuing the humankind.
Characters are interesting, strong and well crafted. The novel has all the elements of mystery, action, adventure, fantasy, suspense and thrill. All in all it's a must read for sci-fi fantasy lovers.

Although this book is science fiction at its finest, it will also appeal to a broader readership as well. It's a story, as humans, we all contemplate in some way -- whether it be conversing in the office about the universe and its latest discoveries or simply standing in line at the grocery store mulling over the idea of the existence of aliens. Clayton Graham delivers a story about Laura Sinclair's return to earth and her search for her long lost husband. But, there is much in store for Laura: alien allies, alien insurgents and an earth run by authoritarians. The read is swift, the plot unravels with plenty of twists and turns. I loved how the book makes readers ponder the question of what if? An intense book that can stand alone.

I can be quite fussy about science fiction but enjoyed Alien Whispers. It's the third book of a series but I think it stands well by itself well. The broad theme of the narrative is the resilience and ingenuity of humanity (which I know sounds a little cliché but reads well in context) and the book's main character, Laura, is relatable even though her predicament may not be! My only minor complaint is in relation to the relative complexity of the world building - I am full of admiration for the author for piecing together a fascinating and detailed world, but, for me, it erred towards overly complex (in the way that sci-fi sometimes does). Otherwise, a really enjoyable and unpredictable read!

Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion is the third book in the Milijun series by author Clayton Graham. This is a series, and especially this book, of hard science fiction with a particularly engaging story.
In this case, I really liked the development of the characters as well as the plot that has as background. The evolution of the personality and behavior of the main characters can be clearly appreciated throughout the saga, and the worldbuilding in a futuristic setting, with the fate of the universe in danger, is absolutely wonderful. As the story advances toward its resolution, the author skillfully raises the level of imagination and excitement as the storyline develops enthrallingly.

I found this book while I was looking for something on Amazon and I liked what I saw. The title caught my eye, and after reading the description I thought it might be a repetitive intergalactic science-fiction. I was totally wrong; it was much more than a simple adventure story. It’s a very exciting read, with non-trivial characters, an interesting development leading to an interesting planet, amazing settings and several twists.
Well worth the price to the point where I immediately bought the previous books in the series after finishing this one. I know I didn’t respect the stipulated order but anyway I enjoyed them all.
I recommend this excellent story cleverly written, with a great number of details.

Although possible to read stand alone, it really needs to be read as part of the series.
Laura has returned to earth a hundred years after she was kidnapped. The universe is a more terrifying place than she ever dreamed of, and if one single person cannot be stopped than the whole universe will be at war. Aliens are in the wings waiting to destroy any remaining hope of a future for not just the human race, but the aliens that can work in tandem with each other. Along the way Laura somehow ends up helping two young adolescents and saving the life of a male. Will this strange group survive, and will it become a new beginning.

An unputdownable sci-fi novel
What an enthralling sci-fi story. "Alien whispers" is the 3rd book in the series penned by Clayton Graham. It's unputdownable!
The moment Laura decides to follow a special mission on earth to look for her husband's whereabouts, she finds her place topsy-turvy. So, she's determined to find a way to defeat the aliens and put things in order.
This is definitely an action-packed novel with so many turns and twists that let me at the edge of my seat. I truly liked the way the scenes are described since I could feel immersed in this adventure between humans and aliens for survival. It's well-written, entertaining and highly recommended.

Alien Whispers: Conflict and Communion written by Clayton Graham is an excellent science fiction and action-packed novel. When I choose a book, I start by reading the description and there I decide whether to read it or not, and this one captivated me immediately. The story lives up to the intriguing blurb and it takes the reader to a thrilling ride that keeps them hooked until they turn over the last page. This is the third book in the series First Contact but it can perfectly be read as a stand-alone, which is what I did and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, I have to read the rest of the books by this author. Highly recommended.

A well-written and engaging sci-fi...

Clayton Graham’s “Alien Whispers” is Book 3 in the MILIJUN Series. It's a visual symphony that explores interstellar concepts at a time when the world's interest in space is at an all-time high. It conjures the future by requiring you to read through its vision of the future and spend time immersed in it. The story is technically and emotionally brilliant, with plenty of action, imagination, and all the elements of a thoroughly entertaining science-fiction series. Thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it. A well-deserved five stars from me.

Not what I expected

I picked this up thinking I was going to find a Sci-Fi romance, and although there are some romantic undertone the book is way more Sci-Fi with a futuristic True Crime/Political Espionage tilt.

Over all it was a well written and interesting read, but I will say that it’s very clearly in a series and should thus be read in order to understand it fully.

I’ll also say that if that is the way the world is going, I’ll be glad that I won’t be around to see it.

Alien Whispers (Milijun3)

The concluding book in the Milijun series is primarily Laura’s story and mainly told from her perspective.
The humans and the RBuzen-human hybrids have arrived at the Mars base of ACE but find disconcertingly that it is a hundred years later than they anticipated.
Life on Earth is even worse than when they left now being under a worldwide totalitarian regime with a moratorium on space exploration.
With new friends and very determined enemies Laura and her allies face a seemingly insurmountable task before they can integrate in Earth society.

A pretty good continuation of the series. While I didn't love all of it, the story is good overall, even though I didn't like it as much as the first book.

Thanks very much for the free copy for review!!
