Review:
Story: I really enjoyed this book very much. I was kind of surprised that this book was told from Chance's point of view rather than Cadence's. I get it though. This book really needed to be seen from his point of view. That's all I'm going to say about that. In this book, Chance is being forced to make a decision. He has to choose between doing what's right and risking Cadence's life or doing what's easy and protecting her. I can't wait to see what other stories come from this series. They can be read alone from what I can see. There are references made to the first book, but they aren't real spoilers. I'd still read them in order personally. That's just me though.
Characters: I would have loved to see more of Cadence. I mean obviously, she's sprinkled through the entire books as one of the main characters of the series. It's just not as much as I'd like from Chance's point of view. I have to be honest, there were times I wasn't really happy with Chance at all. I just wanted to take him and shake him! I can't get into the details due to spoilers. I know that when people read it, they will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Critiques: None!
Final Thoughts: The greatest thing about getting an ARC of a book is that you get to read it before anybody else. The downside of getting an ARC is that you have to wait longer to get the next book. I mean this book is a complete story and doesn't end on a cliffhanger. I still just wasn't ready to leave the world just yet. I'm so sappy for the characters in this book! Especially a certain best friend. He's just so funny! He makes this story! Maybe in future books, we can see more of him and more of Solomon. I'd also love to see more of the assistant. She's a bit judgmental for my taste, but I love that she speaks her mind to Chance!

I can't explain how happy I am when a sequel ends up being even better than the original book in a series. This is what happened with R.A.T., which was exactly that, and made my Christmas time relaxing by the tree extra special. I felt that even if I hadn't read the previous book recently, I'd still be able to follow the story, as the two books are quite separate in one degree. We get to follow Cadence and Chance in a new adventure, while we get to re-meet animanecrons, some machines that are capable of consciousness, but at the same time humanity's fear towards them. The series is dystopian sci-fi mystery, with a forbidden romance subplot. My favourite thing is that the mix of these genres happens so effortlessly, that I now wonder if I can find more of this specific combo in the future. Also, the author has a special ability to make you want to jump in a book, by just using the right word. You want an example? Mention a shower and describe it as thorough, and I start dreaming of the hot water and the steam, just because the right word was used! Lastly, since I am very intrigued by ethical dilemmas, I loved how many of those were included in the book. For example, there was the question of whether machines should be paid for their work, if we ever got to the point they had consciousness, or even, would one be able to kill a robot if it had consciousness? I always took some space to think these up every time I fell upon such thoughts of the author.

🌜All in all, it was a great book, and I feel that I started 2023 with a favourite hopeful of the year!

🍷I got my hands on it just after completion of the first book. This is basically the second book in the series and I would yes you can read it as a stand alone but I would highly suggest you guys to start with the first one so you have an idea of few things, this is definitely one of those books that will take you to places you can't imagine you're in.

This book is a complete escape, an adventurous ride, a shocking unpredictable rollercoaster that will evoke different emotions and senses as you continue it. It's surely different from the first one, I really witnessed a better character building and even the way things are presented is so amazing, I was so much engrossed in it like I could really picture the story running in my own background.

The book is meant for all 16+ audience who enjoys mystery with sci-fi and a suspenseful story that will shake you from within. I wasn't sure of what will happen in the last we pages and what would the author do to bring everything together but the way it's done it's so amazing. I truly truly loved it and kudos! Can't wait to read more such books!

I will definitely recommend it.

Love Cadence. Love the character development. It's a sci-fi modern Agatha Christie-ish take on Asimov's robots. Because of the diversity, strong female leads, and social commentary, the book is a great learning device for young adults too!

Robin uses some old timey words and terms to describe the action, to the point it makes me reminisce about victorian times. This adds a bit of a steampunk flare. I appreciate the effort put into these actors and into the play. Can't wait to read book #3 of the series!

I really enjoy the characters of Chance and Cadence. It was great to see them again. The world expands over the previous book. The setting from faux manor house goes Citadel.

It did not grab me as much as the first book but still got book 3 in the pipeline. I am hoping for more.

If you want cozy sci-fi mysteries with a dash of romance check this series out.

If that horrifies you stay clear.

Oh read the books in order. It does matter for this series.

Idk man this one just… hit. So hard. And so well? The pacing was stellar without feeling boggy and the world building and conflict building felt so effortless?

Very good very good. I need another one tho.

This second book in the Cadence Turing series was full of more backstory and I depth looks into the society that they live in. I will say that this book was a little less of a mystery than the first book but it was still a fun read.
