Alyssa’s finally getting the hang of being an elite Dragon Pyromancer. So why did the Archon have to go and foul it up?

After their victory at the Academy, the Ninety-First Quintelaide returns home as heroes. Alyssa’s name is on everyone’s lips: the girl who killed a Silithik Queen. Their discovery of the hive portals—and the tunnels that made them possible—has allowed the Archenon to stop any other sneak attacks before they start.

And while Arthur heals one of her wounds from battle, the blond Frost Mage suddenly becomes more interested in getting to know Alyssa. It starts with flirty smiles and lingering touches, but soon they can both feel the desire pulsing through the Dragon bond...

Yet their troubles are only beginning. The Silithik are tearing through Archenon territory in the north-west, and the eastern front is rapidly falling apart. When it comes time to receive their marching orders, the Ninety-First is itching to learn where they will be deployed.

Instead, they learn the Archon has other plans for them.

As they struggle to come to terms with their new mission, Alyssa needs to find out what’s tormenting Arthur—because something is clearly eating away at the stoic Frost Mage. Can she learn what it is in time to stop him, or will she and her Quintmates discover the truth too late?

MAGE'S MERCY is the second book in the Paranormal Reverse Harem Romance series, Pyromancer’s Path. It features exciting sword-and-bow action, a unique magic system, and all the slow-burn romance you’d come to expect from a Reverse Harem. HEA guaranteed!

This book picks up where book 1 left, recalling out heroes to the capital to aid in its defense. However, as the story progresses we learn the sithilik are not their only adversaries. Dreams of doom burden our Mage while love grows in his heart. What will win?
Nice continuation of the series. The intimate scènes were subpar but overall story makes up for it.

***Frosty***

Action packed edge of your seat suspense, i loved this series the fmc is not over rated, she is an average girl who does extraordnary stuff. Her men roar Jax is a hot stuff and Arthur the frost mage is a bit chil but deep down very intense. I can't for Ryon to fall for Alyssa he is a jerk to her.

Again, either the author simply didn't use an editor, or the editor was awful at their job. The writing, the prose, it's all bad. The sex scenes are cringy because of the weird shifting between "manhood" or "womanhood" and "ass" and "cock." It feels like either the author was getting out of scene/culture for those scenes, or just couldn't decide what the characters would use in their internal monologue and waffled.

After the first book, I had hoped this one would be better and no. It is not. We're still being beaten over the head by how average Aly is, and she has had zero character development up to this point except for sexual relationships. We are supposed to believe that within two/three weeks from beginning of first book to this book that she still views herself as the most average, unworthy pyromancer but ALSO gets indignant when someone calls her out on being average...?

I think the world/magic system and such is good at it's core, and I think this series could be great if a lot of revision and edits went into it to fix the prose and to generate better character arcs for everyone in the series. This isn't worth continuing the series, though, I'm stopping with this one.

Holy Smokes!

The Archeron has an ulterior motive I think. Besides waiting for them to fail, for some reason he’s acting like he will benefit more losing more civilians. I’m curious to find out what that’s about. One thing that hasn’t been explained though that my mind keeps thinking of, if their beetles and snake like creatures killing easily, with no discernible communicable skills with humans, how were they in a “ceasefire” to begin with? It was mentioned, many times but not how it happened. Which bugs the ever living crap out of me. Hopefully we will learn this later in the series.
Alyssa’s relationship with the frost mage develops in this book, the point of views switching between the two of them. It was hard to read his thoughts he didn’t voice out loud. I felt like shaking him to get him to voice it out loud to the others. His dreams were prophetic of a sort. Fate destined. And he had to stop it from happening again. I enjoyed reading about how they came up with a plan to stop the 2 hives. It was crazy and possibly the only thing that would work. Loved that a fortune teller was included in this book. I also loved the side character Ollie. I hope to read about him more in the next few books.

This story is only getting better as it progresses. Alyssa is the replacement Pyromancer in The Ninety-First Dragon Quintelaide and they have been called back to the capital city, they are about to participate in their bonding ceremony. They discover that they are a political scapegoat for the Archon’s failure to protect the academy. After their bonding ceremony they discover that it was an experiment which will now lead the way to other Quintelaides being able to be re-bonded with new members to their Quint.

The Ninety-First Dragon Quintelaide are then sent on a mission which is supposed to be there doom, they go willingly. This is a learning curve for all of them, Jax and Aly’s relationship strengthens and Aly is drawn more to Arthur and is concerned about it. Ryon, Harry and Maze are still holding back towards Aly, But we are things going the way they are and their new mission their relationships are starting to slowly change. I can only see this story getting better as it progresses and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Frosty! My baby boy, cinnamonroll, teddy bear, cutie, sweetie! I love this man, okay!? He’s my PRECIOUS *evil laugh*
The flirting moments between Lyssa and Jaxie are so my everything! They’re SO CUTE *ugly crying*
Lady Anis is the real heroine of this whole goddamnit book. PERIOD!
THE comeback of Fireball, my ladies. Missed her so bad.
Just wondering here but… will they have to go on a suicide mission in EVERY book…!? Holy fuck, what a shitty life lol. I hate the Archon SO much, you don’t understand :)
And I’m so in love with Maze’s humor, man! I wanna kiss him so bad, ARGH *ugly crying again*
Excited to learn more about the Griffons, the increasing intelligence of the Silithiks, and… yeah, okay, more steamy moments between the frigid Mage and the dashing Warrior with my average girl that is destined for extraordinary things heheheh.
The environment of this series keeps remembering me of my History of the Western Middle Ages’ classes lmao, and it’s so fun! Even though this’s fantasy, the Middle Age setting is quite veridical. Nice :]
Btw, Mr. Halonyx… are you single? ;)

A quick and easy read. Also mostly enjoyable. I liked that the book started pretty much where the first book left off, even if it was a bit disorientating to start with, since it's been a while since I read the first book in the series.
Compared to the first book, I like the MMCs better in this one, since they aren't complete dickheads to the MFC. Thinking back I think it helped being out of Jax's head, and following the story from Arthur's POV instead.
My main complaint reading this book is that the text sometimes retcons itself. I'm pretty sure it happened in the first book too, actually even worse than in this one. I think this could be solved if the author kept better track of scenes.

The story goes further in a new book. It is better as you have read the first book I this series before you read his one.

Alyssa and her Quintelaide are summoned back to finally do their bonding session. Afterwards it seems, the runemaster himself wasn't sure this would work out okay, since it was the second time for the others.

Strangely enough they are not sent away to help with the war, but put on reserve duty. This gives Alyssa the time to practice he skills together with Arthur the frost mage.

They also both visit a fortune teller directly after each other. Giving Alyssa thoughts about her future with her Quint mates, but giving Arthur doom because of a dream he has for years. Next what happens is that the dream seems to become true with their next mission. Is it possible to change the dream into a better ending?

Average girl to do extraordinary things, has the fortune teller told the gryphon. I can't wait what is going to happen next in this series.

Excellent and exciting fantasy series

Mage' Mercy book 2 in the Pyromancers path by Cassie Cole

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶☠️☠️

A fantastic tale of bug killing Warrior, Frost mage, knife yielding Shadow, sharp shooting Archer, a Tinker, and an unassuming average Pyromancer. They find themselves in a Quintelade bond and the ire of Archon. Cassie and her Quintmates face a horde of Silithik bugs from every direction in book 2.
Action packed, slow-burning pageturner read. Filled with overwhelming odds and building bonds. I truly enjoy these characters and their colourful personalities. The whole journey with these characters so far is exciting, and I can't wait to read book three Tinker's trail. I do recommend this book, especially for sci-fi lovers, steampunk readers, and fantasy enthusiasts.
It's a slow burn, building up to why choose romance, but currently it's M/F and two pov's .

fire and ice

I loved this book in the series, and I’m loving the overall series so far! I think Artie is my favorite as of now. I do love that he and Aly can connect not only physically but intellectually as well. The authors ability to paint each character clearly, makes the story that much more real. The foreshadowing and the way each different parts of the story that happen to each character, and the way they all tie together and fit like a puzzle for a bigger picture is astounding. Between Arthur, Aly and the gryphon both seeing the fortune teller, and what the fortune teller told the gryphon, left me with goosebumps. The action, adventure, and love, has a way of sucking you into the realm of their world, and feeling their emotions and the impending war as if you were fighting alongside with them. I can’t wait to continue the series with the rest of their Quint. Hail to the 91st!

This is the second in the series and picks up straight after book one. Because we already know the world and situation we can jump straight into the story and action this time. Definitely needs to be read after book one so don't jump straight in here! Once again I liked the characters and the story was really interesting and kept me interested throughout. I need to find out what the Archon will do next... he definitely has something against this quint!

Alyssa is starting to find her feet as a pyromancer so it's good to see her develop beyond her average skills. It's also nice to have the focus on an average person like this so I hope it continues in this way showing how her deeds aren't rooted in her supposed abilities.

Brilliant 2nd book! **NO SPOILERS**

This book is action packed all the way through. After foiling the attack on the Academy the 91st are heading to the capital for their bonding ceremony. Just as well that’s what their official orders demand. They encounter fierce opposition along the way.

Unknown, to them it’s the only action they’re going to see for a while as politics and scheming rear their ugly heads.

This book has all of the feels. A young woman facing incredible odds feeling like she’ll never be good enough.

Once again the world building is exceptional making it easy to visualise the unfolding events. As usual the inevitable grumpy guy is a full on jerk but in this instance it’s easy to understand his motives. Strongly recommend this series! So much so that I’m diving into book 3.

Aside from some plotholes and obvious missing knowledge/research (THAT is not how steam-power or drawbridges work!) the story was moving along rather quickly which kept me entertaint.

Sadly, I absolutely hate plot arcs that are based on people not talking and this book was a prime example of that. || Arthur not mentioning this entire prophecy thing seems just completely absurd ||

The fact that Arthurs analytic mannerisms seem to vanish completely in the middle of the book is another example of bad editing.

It’s not a bad book, it just feels that it would have profited from some more work being put in. And maybe some testreaders not from the US. (Ice cubes in a waterskin. Srsly?) I would have guessed that this is an early work, but it’s not. However most of this authors other stuff is contemporary, so, it might be just out of her comfort zone.

3/5 again

Visions of Death

Alyssa is still working on fitting into her Quint and becoming a better Pyromancer. After a heroic battle, her Quint is stationed at the Capitol, so she practices her craft. Arthur is a Frost Mage; cool and intellectual, he helps train Alyssa, and the two grow closer. But their Quint is being set up to fail, with catastrophic implications. This book was absolutely addicting; the crew goes from one exciting adventure to political intrigue to an epic battle and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. The attraction between Alyssa and Arthur was just so delicious, I loved how it was paired with Alyssa’s uncertainty about sharing her affections. This series is exciting to the extreme, and I can’t wait for Tinker’s Trial!

I’m really enjoying that each book focuses on a different mmc POV, that said I missed reading Jax’s POV. We get Arthur this go around and I really liked him, much more than I expected I would. Everyone has come so far in just two books, even the short time between the end of book 1 and beginning of this. Aly continues to grow into herself and Arthur and Ajax are a really big part of that. The Archeron(Archron?) can go pound sand, he needs to go, maybe he can go fight a hive or twelve by himself? So excited for book 3 and the next pov and crazy action. Also curious about gryphons? What’s going to happen with them next?.

The 91st Dragon Quintelaide continues their fight with the enemy the Silithiks. Since Alyssa is the newest member, not only is she trying to improve her rune tracings of fire as a pyromancer, she is still trying to build a relationship with her Quintmates. Three people were at the fortune teller’s at the same time. Their warnings were critical to the Quint’s lives and outcome of their impossible battle. Excellent story with strong character development and evolving traits. Exceptional world building is also involved. Great read!.

I’m still really enjoying the storyline

So it appears the dual POV will be of Aly along with the love interest for that book.

So book 2 starts off with the Quint rushing back to the capital to save them from the hoard attacking the city. Then Aly being bonded to her Quint and finding they are being punished by the Acheron. They are being shunned even though they made solid discoveries and kept the bugs at bay.

There is a growing attachment between Arthur and Aly and yet Arthur has his reservations. There are dreams involved and man, I am really enjoying the magic system.

We learn more about the Quint and more of their personalities are shown as a whole.

this book series was published under the name Ruby Ryan

I can tell you the ending off every single book in the series because they were already published under Ruby Ryan in their Dragon Origins series. The series ended so poorly I think the author is trying to rebrand without actually re-writing the series.

But don’t invest in this series. The fourth book is beyond bland and the series finale is awful. Everyone dies, the female lead commits suicide, and they all end up in a weird dragon hive mind (no not the big hive mind which I GUESS only wanted peace or whatever) it was bad.

You don’t get to trick readers like this. It’s underhanded, lazy, and deceitful.

Eh - what a let down after book one.

I really loved the first book as it was unique, action pact, had unique themes and the characters had such great development. Yet, this book just didn't have any of that...

I still loved the MC and the lore/warfare is detailed but, the plot was really slow and made the book feel like a drag. I didn't feel the same anticipation I did when reading the first book as I didn't feel like they had the same chemistry as the romance in book one.

I feel like this book spent a lot of time not really saying anything that interesting. I've unfortunately forgotten anything that wasn't a key plot point and I'm just not invested enough to read the next book.

This was a great action/adventure story with some romance to boot. Arthur, the Quint's Frost Mage, is front and center along with the new Pyromancer Alyssa. The adventure picks up from where Warrior's Wrath ended. The fight with the Silithik rages on, and the reverse harem has another potential candidate. We know Jaxon has turned the corner from Danni's demise, but can Arthur see past his dream and a lost love to find happiness again?.

Mage's Mercy is the second book in the "Pyromancer's Path" series and picks up in the middle of a great action scene. I really enjoyed this second book: it's packed full of action, with great plot development and I like how every relationship within the Quint is so different. The way this series is written, gives us an original take on reverse harem series, and I'm starting to like it more and more with each book that's being released. I think the connection between Arthur and Alyssa is really cute, and I'm curious to see what will happen between her and her third mate in the next book.

Ok, so... The thing about this series so far that bothers me the most is Danni. And Ryon, Harry and Maze. For me, these three make no difference at all and could be gone. Open space for more interesting characters. I guess the way the author is separating a book to each harem member isn't helping much. I don't like when books do this. I like to see them interacting as a group not as individuals within a group, if that makes sense. Anyway, I like Alyssa, she's my favorite, so I will move forward. Next book os with Maze and I'm not that excited tbh. Let's see what happens...

In Mage's Mercy, Cassie Cole cranks up the action and the romance as Pyromancer Alyssa faces new dangers and an icy-hot connection with Arthur, the enigmatic Frost Mage.

Fresh off her heroic victory, Alyssa should be basking in glory, but her world is quickly turned upside down by fresh battles and a surprise mission from the Archon. Meanwhile, Arthur's flirty smiles and lingering touches hint at secrets he's been hiding.

Full of tension, magic, and smoldering chemistry, Mage's Mercy is a thrilling ride for paranormal romance fans craving a fierce heroine and a frosty-sweet love story!

Fate of the future

Alyssa and her Quint are fighting their way back to the Capital to do their bonding after the defeat of the Queen. While everyone is celebrating them, behind the scenes the power player are setting them up to fail. An unexpected encounter and friendship helps lead them to their future. I loved the mundane boredom aspect of this to allow you too get to know them as a Quint not always battling for life. Can't wait to read the next.

I am late to the game but like what I read. The characters are evolving in the second book. There is still intrigue and manipulation of course how else would you participate in a book that’s so intricate. The game still a foot and they do not have all the answers. As it feels that trust is an issue we are still evolving as a unit. Good read.

Note, spicy book!

2.5 stars as of May 2025 on first reading.
More of the same as the first book, however it solifies that all the characters are basically the same character with different emotions active. Additionally, the author seems unable to develop more than one character at the same time.

Warning, I'm a huge re-reader of books thus my feelings on them can change over time. Any future re-read opinions will be captured below.

I liked this book even more than the first one. Partly because I already know most of the characters but mostly because the story is getting more interesting, too. I can’t wait to start the next book.
