Dreams and Descent

Rate this book
Happiness is not achieved when things are perfect, but when one chooses to be happy.

Now that Leah has learned to make choices for herself and discover who she truly is, her journey becomes a matter of honing her skills and deciding where her happiness truly lies. The town of Starling remains under the control of Father Crain, Claire still wants to return to their hometown, and Leah struggles to grasp weapons and magic. Not to mention, a certain obsidian centaur awaits an answer... But Leah can't entertain the idea of romance until all of these challenges are behind her.

Unless, of course, she can see past the imperfections in her life and choose happiness despite them. Can she let herself indulge in such things when the world around her is falling apart, or are they distractions which will doom her hometown and her revenge?

***

Dreams and Descent is a new adult fantasy romance with a monogamous relationship.

This is the second book in The Centaur Tribe series. There are some open ended subplots that will need tying up, but it is a COMPLETE story with no huge cliffhangers.

There is SPICE in this book! While some may consider it a monster romance, there will be no spice in centaur form in the main series. Please think of this more as a shifter romance, where all spicy scenes are in human form.

(That does not mean the centaur spice will never come... I may make it available if there is enough interest. Just saying.)

Hey! I'm Amy, a fantasy romance author, jewelry designer, wife, and furmom to two golden retrievers and one kitty.

The Centaur Tribe series is a fantasy romance slow burn with a brooding alpha male, a young woman who learns her strengths and abilities while learning her self worth, and fantastic banter!

Fuck Tristan. Claire is a bitch. The ✨audacity✨of this grandmother…
*internal screaming*

I told Amy this was all I could think when trying to review Dreams & Descent and it’s taken me over a week to form any other thought.
DADDY DOM. This man has had my heart from day one and getting more insight into why he is the way he is just made it so much better!
LEAH had become such a badass! I mean she still doubts herself and everything but I love it. She finally accepts the fact that she doesn’t know herself and she’s learning who she is, who she wants to be, and how she fits in the world. (The sarcasm and brat energy do t hurt either lol)
THE TRIBE. With the exception of the assholes mentioned earlier, I fucking love everything about this little family! Even when they get stubborn and ridiculous, I love the camaraderie!

To sum up: fuck Tristan. Claire’s a bitch. Fucking grandma. Love the tribe 💚

(4.5) Thank you so much to Amy Lee for letting me beta read for her again! Dreams and Descent took this already tense centaur romance to a whole new level of spicy tension. (You will be frustrated, you will want to yell at Leah, you might throw your book, instantly regret it, and run to pick it back up … ) If you are reading this review, please keep in mind that I rated up because I had a beta copy and I know there will be changes before publication.

From book one, Fate and Resolve, to book two, Leah has come so far. Her journey in finding herself is ever developing. I adored the romances, friendships, sisterhood, and of course, the banter.

What I still believe stands out the most from this book/series, is the world building. It is so unique and is sprinkled into the story perfectly. Amy Lee integrates it into the story, character development, and even relationships. It is prevalent in this particular book, because Leah is struggling to learn how to use magic.

The only critique I have is that in a book that promotes women empowerment, it feels like all of the women’s lives revolve around men and finding love. Even Claire, who is outwardly against the tribe and the centaur romances, has a centaur instantly falling for her. I think the book would have benefited from giving Claire other reasons to want to stay, that didn’t involve the exact reason why she shouldn’t go back.

Overall, Amy Lee has outdone it again, with a beautiful story of magic and fascinating creatures! In this book the tribe becomes even more of a home to the reader, as you learn more about its past, present, and possible future.

Felt like I waited ages for this one!

I think I may have spoilers in this, so if you haven't read Book 1 - Fate and Resolve, I suggest you do so PRONTO!

I couldn't wait to jump back into the world of centaurs again. Leah is still the same girl I know and love from book one, but she's feisty, more confident and happier. Bus she still lets her mind run away with anxious thoughts and worries, and still has trouble believing in herself. Her sister Claire goes through a mood change though, and that surprised me!

Dom is the same, flirtatious centaur we all love and adore, but we get a sneaky peek at his vulnerable side and I am here for it.

This new book took some chances and got quite spicy quite quickly, but that did not put me off in the slightest! The spice does not overtake, or detract from the story at all. If anything, it adds to it!

Overall, I enjoyed this book so much, I struggled to put it down. It only took me two days to finish it - obviously, the usual obstacles were in the way - kids, a party, and adult responsibilities! But this book is still the same, easy, enjoyable read that Amy produced the first time. It's one of those 'can't put it down, try as I might' kind of books. It's filled with intrigue, and "I just need to read more!!" moments too.

GIMME the next one!!!

I give this book 5 stars.

I received an advanced copy of this book for a fair and honest review.

Second in The Centaur Tribe series, Dreams and Descent picks up not long after where Fate and Resolve left off. Leah is trying to decide if she wants to be a member of the tribe while still grappling with the fact that her hometown of Starling is essentially living a lie. She also is hesitating about moving things forward with Dom until conditions are perfect.

Leah starts to really come into her own in this book. She stands firm in her choices and is willing to adapt to the varied things that pop up (training, new creatures, etc.) I really enjoyed seeing her flourish in this story. Dom is still his patient and kind self but with more vulnerability than before. Leah and Dom’s banter does not disappoint in this one. The characters that pop up in this story are nothing short of unexpected and mind-blowing. You’re in for a wild ride with these. The worldbuilding and magic system evolved and grew in this installment, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come!

I highly recommend this series and am eagerly awaiting book 3! Do yourself a favor and read this series!

Special thanks to the author for the ARC. All thoughts in this review are honest and my own.

*I am a beta reader. The version of the book I have read is not the finished version that will be published.*

This was so much more than I even thought it would be! The character growth was *chef's kiss*! And, you guys, the BANTER! The sarcastic, hilarious, puntastic banter was everything in my life! There were twists that I never, not one time, saw coming. The rollercoaster of emotions is REAL! Things can get a bit heavy, but then that humor kicks in and lightens the mood exactly enough. I LMAO reading this!

I feel there is a very important message at the root of this story. Love does not concur all and YOU are important, YOU are worthy, YOU are worth it... all on your own... with no one and nothing except yourself. Leah's personal journey is near and dear to my heart. I am SO proud of her!

I plan to come back and add to my review as I read the updated versions of this book. I will never include spoilers, so have no fear.

An amazing book 2 in the story of the Centaur Tribe. Leah's growth into her new life is fun to see, especially with the dichotomy of Claire's struggles to adapt. Claire needs to get it together. Though, it's fair that her entire life is pretty much in shambles, so she gets some time...for now. But I'm keeping my eye on her.

The teasing of magic throughout the book, hinting closer and closer to Leah's power, makes me really want to see what she can do! Like, stopping time? Speeding it up? Hello? I hope she busts out some magical moves in book 3!

This book had a lot more CHILI PEPPER EMOJI as well, and it was very well-written. Lominick...Deah...well, whatever their couple name is, their banter and relationship has only gotten better in book 2. I can't wait to see what book 3 brings, with what is essentially the advent of an entire new world for the centaur tribe of Deep Pine Forest.

Fantastic writing, Amy Lee!

Dreams and Decent is the second book of the Centaur Tribe series. It picks up at the ending of book one and continues Leah’s story. Leah, having over come one aspect of the curse hanging over her village, is now looking towards the next. First, however, she must get one stupid rock to glow and decide if her home is now with the Centaurs. To top all off her relationship with Claire, who has always been her closest confidant, is strained.
Amy has yet again created a unique masterful story that takes you to another realm. Most of the book is focused on the characters and their relationships. It feels like it both is going very slow pace wise and very quick. I am unsure on the time frame but it feels like this occurring over a period of a couple months at the most. I really enjoy character driven plots and despite being slightly slow absolutely loved this book. I will definitely be reading the next one.

I received an advance reader copy and am leaving this review of my volition.

I love the world that Amy has created. I especially love all the creatures that she has obviously well thought about and created. once again, as soon as I started the book, I was immediately hooked! I love seeing Leah's continuous journey of discovering herself and what she wants. I adore the banter between Dom and Leah, and I love love LOVE the tribe and family that has been created in this series!! (except for a select few individuals 🙄) i'm excited to see where the next book takes us! also, might I add, the sprinkled SPICE! ugh, SO cute!!!

if you have not read the first book in Amy's installment, Fate and Resolve, you must!! I beg of you!! Amy is such a talented writer!! also available in KU 😉

I had the opportunity to be a Beta reader for Dreams and Decent and I’m so glad I was able to read it early! I was hooked on this series in the first book and the second book was even more interesting!

Who knew centaurs could be so sexy?? This fantasy is the second in the series and has just enough spice to keep you intrigued! Leah is trying to find her way in the centaur tribe and Dom is trying to let her make her own choices. They find out that they are not the only centaur left like they thought.

Tristan(Leah’s ex) deserves to be punched in the face for how he acts in this book!

If you like:
-Fantasy
-Romance
-Magic
-Spice
- Centaurs

I highly recommend this book! Also check out the first book in the series!

Leah has adapted to her life within the tribe and began to develop into a much stronger, confident woman who is able to determine her own mind but whilst the world around her is still so fractured and in need of resolutions can she truly indulge in allowing romance and friendships to blossom?

This is the second book in this series and it is interesting to see the character development of so many of the characters whilst also having a developing story that feels like it is seeing the writer developing her style and skills too. The book is well written, a page turner and a small markdown is simply for a few little edits but this is an overall excellent book that is highly recommended.

I received this book as an ARC. I devoured it in 24hrs.
This is the second book in the series.
It picks up about a month after the second one ends.
This book is still showing how Leah is struggling to find herself. How she is juggling her budding relationship with the Centaur leader, figuring out who she is, and dealing with her sister’s issues.
I love that we get to see so much daily life of this centaur tribe we fell in love with in the first book.
The end of the book had me shocked and so ready for the author to get the next book out!
I may have received this book as an ARC, but I’ve already pre ordered a signed copy for my collection! I plan to revisit it again.

I was so excited to receive my copy of this book because I was left hanging with the end of book 1 and wanting more from the tribe! Unfortunately, I have the same feelings about the ending of book 2. I read the preview of this book and looked forwarded to it being a “complete” story with “no cliffhangers”. I kept reading to find out where we were headed and aside from a lot of character development, the tribe is in the same position as they were at the start of the book (in my opinion). Although I did enjoy lots of parts of the book, I felt like there was a lot of build up leading up to the same opened ended story lines the book started with.

I had the absolute pleasure of reading this both as a beta reader and an arc reader and WOW! Amy picks up the story immediately after book 1 ends and takes you through so many twists and turns that it left me reeling and ready for more. There were moments where I wanted to throw my phone because characters were making me mad (iykyk) and others where I'm squealing because Leah and Dom are being adorable...again. Amy, my next question is where is book 3 please? Gimme Gimme

Beta Reader ( Tribe Forever)

I loved this book so much I went against doctors orders to finish it. I can’t explain enough how much this book does to make you feel like you are living in the tribe. I hate the sister. Let me say it again I HATE her sister. Honestly I think she was written so most of us would hate her. I wonder if it is only Eldest daughters who want to give her a good “get over yourself “ shake.

Worth every second. Pick this one up. Worth it.

Miss Amy did it again.
She wrote a book I couldn’t put down and it was great. So much more spice than book one for obvious reasons 😏. Very much enjoyed reading about where Leah’s journey went after the end of book 1. It was just as exciting and fun and we got to learn more about some other tribe members which was great. I already need book 3!!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I love this journey with the centaur tribe and to watch the growth of Dominic’s and Leah’s relationship. The world in this book is described so wonderful that sometimes it seemed like I was the one walking through the magical forest. I can’t wait to continue this story in the next book!

I loved how the story and characters are developing! The found family was flushed out nicely in this book and the relationship between Leah and Dom is sweet. Claire is giving me ACOTAR Nesta vibes, so I can’t wait to see how her story develops and see what the tribe decides!

I enjoyed this book and the journey that Leah and Dominic took together. Their development with themselves and each other was beautiful.
Claire was a hard to character to like but I felt for her and her pain.
The shocking surprises at the end are having me hope that another book is on its way!
