The land exists in a constant battle of good and evil. Under the guidance of the Goddess Thayla, the villagers work together to take care of the earth, and share their bounty with their neighbors. Everyone has what they need, and peace resides in their hearts. But where there is good in the world, there will always be malice to try and conquer it. The God Maldor revels in chaos and destruction. He wishes to stamp out Thayla’s light and rule in the darkness.

Ansel has spent his life fighting in Thayla’s name, rising up to battle those who wish to overthrow the kingdom for Maldor. His body is worn, but his heart is pure. Thayla sees his sacrifice and dedication, and blesses him with three gifts; a cloak which helps him in his quest, an eternal life to continue to protect the land, and finally, a fated love to share that life with. She promises to return to Ansel when it is time to claim his mate, who will be in mortal danger and in need of protection.

Follow Ansel in his journey to find love with his cursed prince Leo, and their battle with the darkness that follows them.

* This low angst, paranormal, insta-love story is set many centuries ago. It has a dash of gore, and a mix of danger, steam, and sweet moments, along with a very happy HEA!

I live in rural Ohio with my husband and two sons who drive me nuts, but I love them with all my heart. I enjoy reading and writing romance of all types, but gay romance is my forte and favorite! Twice the sexy men? Yes, please! My books tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart, but they do contain lots of heartfelt moments, steamy scenes and a healthy dose of humor. Thank you to everyone for checking out my page and I hope you enjoy my books. Happy reading!

“Leo, do you remember me telling you that I wanted to show you all of the ways I could love you?” - Ansel

Warnings: There are some scenes with violence and battles that can get detailed.

Notable Tropes/Tags/Themes/etc.:
Fated Mates, Forbidden, Insta Love, MM Romance, Paranormal, Rescuer/Savior/Caregiver, Sweet/Innocent, Touch Him & Die, Virgin MC, Warrior x Prince

“Please relax your mind. I will get you to safety, my prince.” Even though Leo had not been prepared for royalty, he was the prince of my heart, and that would never change. - Ansel

My Opinion:
Our immortal warrior Ansel has been blessed by Thayla to fight and protect the kingdom and her supporters to one day be awarded by his fated love, a he, which is not spoken of in these times. Our other MC is the Prince who is neglected and used by his parents and spends his life confined to the castle. On his 18th birthday, everything starts and Ansel comes for his fated. I don’t usually like stories that are set in the past/historical but this one was super cute. It possessed Marx’s trademark insta love and was creative and sweet. There were a couple scenes that were a little graphic compared to what I’m used to from her, like the opening scene, but they were well written and perfect for the story. As always, fast paced love, defeating all odds and getting their HEA. I would LOVE a sequel of them in the modern world, I would be curious to see how they are living and what Leo is doing now that he is free.

Even though I was terrified of the situation, I couldn't help but notice how good the stranger's arms felt around me; how safe I felt in his strong hold, with his heart beating against my back. I'd always dreamed of being held by a strong man. - Leo

Main Character Information:
Ansel: Immortal warrior blessed by the Goddess Thayla, brown hair and eyes, skin covered in scars
Leo: Hidden prince, red hair and blue eyes, innocent and sweet, virgin

“Leo, do not worry. Your words make my heart glad, as I am in awe of your beauty. Your hair reminds me of the setting sun, and your eyes are like the cool water of a lake.” - Ansel

Intimate/Spicy Moments Include:

“You make my body glad too. My blood races and my flesh aches for you.” - Leo

Possesses:
1st Person, Dual POV
3rd Act Break Up: No
Slow-burn: Yes
HEA: Yes
MC Sex w/o Other MC(s): No

If I were worried about a fair fight, I would open my cloak so that the men could see me clearly, but nothing was fair about this situation. They were hunting my lover, only to shed his blood for an evil master. I would have no mercy upon them. - Ansel

4/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Content Warnings for book: Fantasy typical violence, parental abuse

Kink: N/A

This book was so sweet. I admit, I was unsure if Jayda Marx could pull off medieval fantasy but she did it anyway. The world building is simplistic but I didn’t need it to be well-detailed, have maps, or paint me a tapestry of a living and breathing realm. The rails that were there for us was plenty and I got invested into the subplot among the romance.

Size difference, age gap, fated mates, what more could I want? It I was a protective gentle giant knight and a delicate prince. Literally stuff made of my dreams honestly, which this author does so well for me.

The reason it isn’t five stars is I felt the ending to the plot thread was anticlimactic and rather disappointing. I would’ve really loved to see the MCs more involved and maybe even take the villain down.

Glad to see Marx writing longer books again. More, please!

Sweet story

I love instalove books and this was one was truly sweet. One man is a warrior battling for the goddess Thayla against the evil of Maldonado, who is true evil. The other is a young prince who is kind but is not worldly but Thayla makes a promise to the warrior that he will one day find his true love, the Prince, and must protect him from harm to gain that love. It’s truly a beautiful, quick read that I enjoyed.

I really hope this is the start of a series. There is so much potential for many more adventures with Ansel and Leo. I liked that we got to see the goddess and evil god of the story. I also liked how Ansel and Leo are bonded. Jayda Marx always comes up with unique ways to bond her fated mate characters.

Nice

This was a nice read not too long and not to short. If I had to describe it I would say that it was enjoyable.
