If you're interested in Psychology then this book is amazing. I'm a 14 year old and I really enjoyed it because the author explains the terms really well for people who don't know much about Psychology. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend or family member.
Part of Pearson's "Brilliant..." series, Brilliant Psychology is a general primer and common-sense guide to getting a better understanding about one's psyche, the nature of connections and relationships between people and why humans are what they are.
There's a lot of practical advice in this book, ranging from a breakdown of the most common psychological problems and what causes them in individuals, to a study of how emotions impact others (consciously and unconsciously) to the reasons why people cheat on each other. It's nothing remarkable, but it's a fairly good primer for anyone who's looking to learn a bit more about the field.
Each chapter has short biographies on notable psychiatrists and social scientists, along with "Brilliant Insights" and "Brilliant Tip" that give a short note on how to improve the reader's understanding and knowledge of how to handle certain situations. It's here that the meat of the book is found, as it certainly taught me some things I didn't know (like, for instance, getting an edge in negotiating by asking for something completely unrealistic, then slightly dialing your request back to edge the person into taking on a larger-than-normal job).
Brilliant Psychology doesn't seek to redefine psych books, but it's a decent read for anyone who wants some practical advice on various social conditions and triggers.
Overall, this book is what you'd expect from a book with this title and wide target-audience : a broad overview of psychological aspects, studies that have been done to study them, people who took the big spots in gathering the insights etc. That would make this book a 3-star.
I'm giving this book an extra star for regularly giving extra information on how the value of studies has evolved over time and how nowadays they might no longer be considered valid. That extra information also contained details on follow-up studies that have been done and whether the original conclusions could be reproduced or not.
, bidden? , ademhaling? , meditatie? , een hersen transplantatie?
Great guide for beginners to obtain decent understanding about human (and some other mammal) behavior. It gives comprehensive examples for the theory writ. However, it explains broad topics in few pages and so a keen reader should seek for side literature!
