A very entertaining Halloween read with an excellent story line which contained plenty of bloody gore and shocking torture. Sea Caummisar is a brilliant author and I always enjoy her books. I look forward to reading more of her work in the future 👍🤗😀

Jimmy liked to have a new toy, a new play thing. He only allowed this once a year, on Halloween night he would abduct a mother and torture them as long as they endured. They would last days, sometimes months. It was a fine balance between extreme torture, less days of fun or less painful torture, last longer. If his victims suffered horrendous pain, Jimmy was happy and felt great. Equipped with fireworks, stuffed in women bits and a cheese grater against, yes more sensitive bits, the flesh grated off, blood and goo oozes, this made Jimmy happy. Jimmy is a sick deviant prick.

While the story was still enjoyable, like all the other Sea Caummisar books I’ve read, this one didn’t feel complete. It needed another round or two of editing.

Perhaps it’s because I read the ebook version, but it was riddled with typos. I still understood everything, but it really throws you off while reading. And, if a fan catches all of the mistakes, you know the editor should have (i.e., Caummisar shouldn’t be fully to blame here).

Also, Jimmy’s reveal/the twist was done in a monologue-type way—which, is one of my least favorite ways. It always feels disingenuous and like the author wanted to wrap things up too quickly, instead of creating a scenario where the information is expressed. It’s the idea of “show, don’t tell.”

Overall, I know Caummisar fans will like this one, but perhaps first-time readers may want to choose a different story to see Caummisar’s full potential.

Twisted

This is yet another great read from the amazing mind of Sea Caummisar. No she can come up with these amazing twisted reads astounds me. Such and amazing imagination that brings to life such extreme stories that have you cringing and squirming as you read, but still have to read on as the are so enticing to read. This read is about a brutal and viscous young man that from a young age was hurt. I won't say too much as it will spoil the story for you. But let's just say after an awful event he just can't get over it and things every Halloween get worse with more extreme violent happenings that will make your toes curl. Recommended short read to anyone whom enjoys a quick extreme read. Not for the easily offended or the squeamish.

I wish I’d read this on Halloween itself. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more as my final spooky read of the month. Instead I read a lack lustre series that I didn’t even finish. Anyway.

So far, Sea has been a mix of 3 and 4 stars, which for extreme horror is great by my standards. This still in the category of enjoyment but I have to agree with both her editor and Sea herself. The authors note states it was released against the editors better judgement and it’s not her personal favourite, nor is it mine either. However, I love the concept of seeking revenge and villains coming back specifically on Halloween night. Maybe it IS my favourite holiday.

The twist wasn’t something I expected and I was kicking myself for it. A little cliché but who doesn’t love a good cliché? I still thoroughly enjoyed hearing about Jimmy’s back story and the flipping between present and past was easy to follow (even though I regularly struggle with that).

One Treat a Year for Halloween is a fun little spooky read for any day of the year. Go get yourself this little treat and watch out for the tricks.

I have read several of Sea’s books and have enjoyed them all but this is by far her best to date. It was an interesting, well told story about despicable people doing some really screwed up things. If you like extreme horror this book is definitely for you. If you have any triggers or a weak stomach there’s nothing to see here. I listened to the audiobook and the performance by Harry Roger Williams III was excellent. All in all I would say it’s hard to go wrong with a book by Sea Caummisar.

I listened to the audiobook version of this one, so I didn't experience the typos that are frequently cited in other reviews. This also meant that I got to savour the absolute treat of Harry Roger Williams III's narration, which always adds a layer of absurdist fun to extreme horror.

The story itself was a total gore-fest, and for all its flaws, it was everything I could have wanted in a Sea Caummisar halloween novella.

Love The Horror

This was a great short read. Enjoyed the storyline about Jimmy's life. His abusive dad and over protected mother. Never saw the ending coming but found it extremely sick and gory.

Extreme and well written

It's still rare, although getting better, to find extreme horror that's well written. This story was engaging and entertaining, if you've got a very strong stomach and like this sort of thing. Which obviously I do.

Not the best

I think the authors editor was right in telling her not to publish this one. Not only was it below par for her normal work, but the editing was ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!

Just not the best I've seen from this author. Very disappointed.

Fucked up as per usual but I could empathise with the murderer in this one. His backstory was more explained than in some of her other books which makes it hard not to understand him and his actions while being torn by hating what it made him do.

I am a fan of 'Punpkins for Cheap' already, so I was excited to read this one. I was asked if I was okay while I was reading because my facial expressions kept changing so fast. 🤣
The present-day trick-or-treating and the underground scenes made my heart race. The descriptions made me scrunch up more than once. I liked getting to see how Jimmy grew up, it was sad, but his disturbances just continued to get worse and worse. I enjoyed how the story switched back and forth the way it did.

Unexpected twist...

I enjoyed this despite a few typo's. I really wasn't expecting the twist towards the end but it definitely worked.
