The Third Path: Finding Intimacy with God on the Path of Questioning

Rate this book
A prayer labyrinth with four paths.
A path of questioning.
A book full of questions that demand an answer.
AND A LIFE CHANGED FOREVER ...

There are times when knowing God at a deeper level means knowing ourselves better ... and vice versa. But how do we get to the core of who we are? Perhaps by hearing-and answering-the questions God asks.

The Third Path offers 26 of the questions found within God's Holy Word, questions He asked biblical characters He dealt with directly. Questions that demanded answers. These same questions, when answered carefully and thoughtfully, allow us to know ourselves better ... and God better still.

Let's walk.

If you're looking to encounter God, I highly recommend reading this book. Allowing God to ask me some of the same questions he asked others in the bible, then sitting with the question, searching my heart, and answering honestly opened the door to a closeness with God I haven't experienced in a while.

Wow. I just finished this book and was moved to write a review immediately, in case anyone else is thinking of reading "The Third Path." Before I started this book, I didn't know much about prayer labyrinths. I now better understand the purpose of labyrinths and how the process of walking a can draw me closer to God. But I also have a way of achieving the benefit of strolling a prayer labyrinth without taking a single step. "The Third Path" is like a how-to book for greater intimacy with God. We learn to converse with him, which includes "hushing" enough to hear his voice. Eva Marie Everson is also something of a Bible scholar and I learned a lot of historical background related to scripture. She has a way of bringing the Bible alive as she presents scripture passages that are the basis for a daily prayer walk that involves The Path of Silence, The Path of Memory, The Path of Prayer and The Path of Questioning.

If you’ve ever had the desire to walk a prayer labyrinth but could not fathom how you could do so, here’s good news. Eva Marie Everson has presented us with the gift of fulfilling this wish right in the comfort of our own homes. The Third Path, Finding Intimacy with God On The Path of Questioning takes us on sixteen paths within the labyrinth. Each path poses questions God asked of notable Bible figures, but the author suggests we keep a prayer journal and ponder those questions for ourselves. (NOTE: Accompanying Prayer Journal available soon.)

If I may, I suggest you read through the book first, then go back and do your journal entries. The questions are intimate—from the heart of God—and many will take some time and possibly a lot of personal reflection. This book is one you will not want to rush through. Honestly, this is one of the best books of its kind (but I’m not sure there’s ever been one like it) I’ve ever seen. Trust me when I tell you, wherever you are in life right now, whatever your circumstances, you NEED this book. It is my personal belief that this is going to change your life. Highly, highly recommended.

On a personal note, I was surprised and thrilled to learn the idea for this book was born from a seed planted at the Blue Lake Christian Writers Retreat in Andalusia, Alabama, my hometown. As a child and teen, this was the camp I attended.

In full disclosure, I received an advance reader copy of this book with no expectations for a review. The opinions here are my own.

Prayer is a conversation with God. And what better way for God to engage His children in meaningful dialog than to pose questions to them. Everson's The Third Path springboards from the idea of a prayer labyrinth to offer a practical method for talking to God--read His word and respond to questions contained therein. The chapters provide a chance to dig deeper into Bible stories and set out thoughts and questions to start the path of questioning on your prayer "walk." This book offers an excellent opportunity to kickstart your brain and to journal.

Once every generation a book comes along that has the potential to revolutionize a culture. Such a book is THE THIRD PATH by Eva Marie Everson. Steeped in a broad knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures, and reflecting a deep relationship with Christ, Ms. Everson has created a masterpiece that will, if read and applied, transform your life and help you fulfill the great destiny for which God created you. While we may have been told not to question our faith, the truth is we have those questions anyway. Eva Marie Everson insightfully explores questions found in the Bible that help us better understand ourselves, our faith, and the Lord we love. Each chapter focuses on a question with careful contextual teaching and then challenges the reader to sit (or labyrinthian walk) with the ideas for deeper personal reflection. She convinced me that questioning truly is an important part of spiritual formation.

What a wonderful, thought-provoking book!

The author has dug deeply into her faith and the Bible to write this book that naturally draws readers closer to God.

Each chapter digs into a story from the Bible, flawed people who make mistakes just as we all do.

Interesting. Probing. Inspiring. Well done!

Highly recommend!

I had never heard of a prayer labyrinth until reading this book. The author presents the reader with questions that God might ask and as the reader digs deeper into the answers their relationship with God will grow stronger. There is a companion journal to go along with the book in which the questions or statements are written out and the reader can write their thoughts and prayers down.

A guide to spiritual discovery woven with biblical stories and wisdom as one journeys within a prayer labyrinth. Following the paths of silence, memory, prayer, and questioning, one journals and draws closer to God. Everson: “We all wrestle at times with who we are. We wrestle with who God is. And we often wrestle with who God wants us to be.” Amen. A unique and recommended study.

This was an excellent book that allowed me to think deeply about where I was in my relationship with Christ and look for ways to improve it. I enjoyed spending time to go deep in my study through the questions and thoughts in this study.

This book was just what my heart needed. Such wisdom between these pages, as the author leads the reader through scriptures, questions, and reflection. Did lots of highlighting to reference later. Recommend for any Christian wanting to dig deeper in their relationship with God.

I loved the content of this book - so insightful and meaningful. However, I wouldn't say I liked the frequent underlining in the text. I don't think the cover is fitting for the fantastic material. Despite this, I plan to turn back to this book again and again for spiritual growth.
