With this gothic and thought-provoking story, Elodie Crowe delivers a gut-wrenching dystopian future which reminds us that no one is safe until everyone is safe.
Caged is a spin off prequel to the forthcoming Cowered series.
I read Caged as part of an anthology, which was how the author caught my attention. It was my favorite story in the anthology, not just because it was well-written, but because it balanced dark eroticism with more of the realism and grimness that I think is appropriate for anything beyond pure smut in the forced breeding niche.
It was refreshing to read a story with a lot of the twisted elements I enjoy in dark romance, but with the added room for nuance that comes from not having to fit in a comforting happily ever after by the end.
Super depressing, but well written. I came here after reading the story in an anthology series, hoping that this would be a full length version of the story, because it ends in a very open ended way. We really have no idea what is going to happen to the FMC. I’m deciding that she’ll figure something out though. She seemed savvy. Some sort of resistance plot.
After going thru the last few years, it's not hard to see that something like this could conceivably happen with the wrong people in charge. Very disturbing book. Written very well as usual. One of my favorite authors.
