It starts with a kidnapping… Will it end in murder?
Desperate to find his missing sister, Ethan McClure seeks out private investigator Melissa “Mel” Carter—only to be attacked right outside her agency’s door. Though she’s reluctant to help after her last case turned violent, Mel won’t turn Ethan away. Following a clue left by his sister is their only chance, but can they avoid becoming pawns in the abductor’s dangerous game?
Laurie Alice Eakes used to lie in bed as a child telling herself stories so she didn’t wake anyone else up. Sometimes she shared her stories withothers; thus, when she decided to be a writer, she surprised no one. Family Guardian, her first book, won the National Readers Choice Award for Best Regency in 2007. In the past three years, she has sold six books to Baker/Revell, five of which are set during the Regency time period, four books to Barbour Publishing, as well as two novellas to Barbour Publishing and one to Baker/Revell. Seven of her books have been picked up by Thorndike Press for large print publication, and Lady in the Mist, her first book with Revell, was chosen for hardcover publication with Crossings Bookclub. She also teaches on-line writing courses and enjoys a speaking ministry that has taken her from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast. Laurie Alice lives in Texas with her husband, two dogs and two cats, and is learning how to make tamales.
It was a really nice entertaining read…even though I had to suspend disbelief several times, I liked the characters so well that I forgave them a few stupid decisions. I ended the story mainly dissatisfied that I didn’t get to know them better in a longer story because there is still so much to find out.
Lots of exciting moments in this one. My favorite thing about this book was that the MC had my first and middle name as their name. I have never seen that before. Good read.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Abduction Rescue. This is an amazing story and I know you will love it. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of intrigue.
Private Investigator Melissa "Mel" Carter sat upright at the pounding on the door to her office. It was after hours but that wasn't unusual. She tried to ignore it. She finally went to the back door. The knocking ended but she could hear someone being assaulted. she called 911. Opening the door a man fell at her feet.
Ethan McClure fell at the woman's feet and rolled into the building. The woman hit his attacker with pepper spray. He ran, jumped into a sports car, and took off. She pointed the can at him. "You go too." Ms. pepper spray shouted. He took the spray can from her and she kicked him in his weak knee. He refused to talk to the cops. She finally agreed to help him.
An exciting journey to find Ethan's sister and the men who abducted her. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your mess.
I've loved reading Laurie Alice Eakes's Historical Romances so I get a thrill every time I see her name in the month's Love Inspired Suspense lineup. This is her third book for them and it's an unputdownable wonder.
Intense. Filled with action and danger. The kind of breathless cat-and-mouse game I could see playing out on the big screen. Literally read it in one sitting because there was no plausible place to stop without losing my mind!
Love Ethan and Mel and their back stories and the way they work together in the search for his missing sister. All kinds of emotions simmering beneath the surface between them and all kinds of reasons that a romance just isn't in the cards for either of them. (Ha! Luckily Eakes knows better!)
And I love that this is a big city setting -- Chicago -- and once again the author uses the public transit system to nail-biting perfection. Though she includes some incredibly vivid car chases as well. :-)
Pretty good read. Didn’t seem like Melissa Carter knew what was going on and her team I thought for sure would’ve come to help her out when she didn’t return from her stakeout from when Ethan and his sister Sheila were being held captive.
Ethan McClure comes to Chicago seeking help from anyone he can to help find his sister who’s been kidnapped by her ex-husband and under rough circumstances winds up at PI Melissa Carter’s “Mel”. Things seem to go from bad to worse as things seem to get out of hand fast. Can Mel and Ethan outsmart the kidnappers to save Shelia and her kids?
Figured this would be a nice change from what I usually read. However, it was a bit cheesy and predictable. It's a book about 3 people running from "bad guys"(yes the author used the term "bad guys" a lot which gave the book a dumbed-down low-quality vibe) who ostensibly have no issues killing them, however, never kill them every chance they get. Makes me remember why I stick to fantasy, sci-fi, or dystopian novels when it comes to fictional books.
This is a story about a female private investigator working with an ex soldier to find his kidnapped sister. There is plenty of action, but there is not a lot of interaction between the main characters who fall in love so quickly. I would have liked to have seen more character and plot development in the novel.
Haven’t read too many books from this author (yet!), but now that I’ve discovered her I plan to change that. This book definitely held my interest and I really enjoyed it.
This was my first book by this Love Inspired Suspense author. Really well done. Completely believable characters, non-stop action, and a little romance. Great work!
