His Name is Jesus: The Promise of God's Love Fulfilled

Rate this book
Max Lucado's first book that journeys from the birth of Christ to His resurrection. Drawing from his classic writing on Jesus combined with new reflections and breathtaking art, Max Lucado again opens our eyes―and hearts―to the life and work of the Savior in a way that will change lives forever. “Jesus was, at once, common and not; alternately normal and heroic. One minute blending in with the domino players in the park, the next commanding the hell out of madmen, disease out of the dying, and death out of the dead.” Who was this man who spoke as easily with kids and fishermen as widows and waves? It is the question that has echoed down through the centuries to us today, and here is a visually stunning book that answers aspects of that question.

(Disclaimer: I was compensated for my honest opinon of this book by receiving the free copy of His Name is Jesus from Thomas Nelson Books . If you want to get free books or DVDs to review, go check them out. They do strongly want honest reviews.)

His Name is Jesus is a beautiful volume chronicling the life of Christ. Lucado’s goal is that anyone who reads this book will gain a deeper understanding and a greater desire to follow our Savior. Lucado discusses Christ’s role in the creation, in His mortal ministry, and in His sacrifice for all mankind.
On first receiving this book from Thomas Nelson, I could only think about how PRETTY it is. There is beautiful photography on every page, from endsheet on. It comes packaged in its own hard book jacket. The thought behind the presentation is really amazing.

I do believe that Lucado does an excellent job of reaching his goal to help people understand Christ and His life’s mission. He does a wonderful job of helping to explain some of the customs of the time (since, face it, life in Biblical-era Israel is far different than most of our lives now). I especially loved the thought that went into his retelling of the woman caught in adultery … or how Pontius Pilate must have felt when faced with this man from Gallilee, whom the crowd so hated. He refers to many Biblical verses from multiple modern translations of the text to support and to enrich his text.

I would recommend this book. It presented in a beautiful and simply-worded way. Many books about Jesus can come off as, well, schmaltzy. Lucado has managed to craft a volume that can speak to people without being off-putting at all. It rather reminds me a bit of C.S. Lewis’ writings or of Madeline L’Engle’s Bright Evening Star. As I mentioned, it’s very aesthetically appealing and would be gorgeous on a coffee table, if you’re that type. (I know it sounds trite, but it is a really GORGEOUS book … which is only fitting, considering its contents). It would also be a lovely gift for a friend or family member. Or for yourself, even.

What an incredible book that makes us see the stories that we are used to read in the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, in a whole new perspective. Max, in some parts, makes us focus not only on Jesus, but the other people on the story and opens our eyes to beautiful thoughts and values that we should build our lives on. It’s amazing and worth the reading!!

'His Name is Jesus' is a beautifully illustrated book that sets out Jesus life from birth to His resurrection. This book draws from Max Lucado's other books and pieces together Jesus life and mission in short segments from different books to create a complete picture of 'the promises of God's love fulfilled' through his son Jesus.

What an amazing book. The life of Jesus Christ is played out in this book, written in segments. This book was put together from 20 of Max Lucado's books. It is a beautifully written book with lovely peaceful pictures that compliment the content of the book. It comes with a hard slipcover for added protection. This is a perfect book for a gift for a loved one or treasured friend. This is also a perfect book to read with your children. I plan on reading it to them during our devotional time.
Mixed with poems the book gives many thought provoking ideas. I had never read a book that portryed Jesus in a light that he was not only a God, but also a mortal man that went through many of the same things we go through in our own lives. He knows how we feel and our sorrows and our joys. As I was reading this book, at first I felt it was protraying our Savior in a ordinary light. I was not sure how I felt about that. The more I read, the more I realized that Max Lucado wanted his readers to know Jesus in a different light then we usually see him. I know I have grown spritually by reading this book.
What a treasured book to have in your home library and a great gift to give to those you love.

I have read several “little kid” books by Max Lucado, and really enjoyed his parallels to real life situations along with Christian themes. I especially liked how in this book not only did he share different stories from the life of Jesus Christ, but also included beautiful photography and fonts to look at.
A couple parts that I really enjoyed are how he helped me understand once again how Jesus Christ can be a personal Savior for each of us. I especially liked his telling of when Jesus calmed the seas and the woman who touched his robe, favorite scripture stories of mine. I also liked how he asks poignant questions that made me think what would I do in this situation.
Though some of the theology of Lucado I don’t agree with, overall, I found this book moving and especially beautiful to read. I read it in a couple of days so it’s an easy book to read in a couple of hours, or to just take little “sections” or even one story at a time to think more deeply about.
Overall, this story increased my love for my Savior Jesus Christ and made me think harder on how I can have a better relationship with Him.

His Name is Jesus is a compendium of Jesus' humanity, based on key events that shaped Him as a human being, prepared Him for his ministry, and transformed Him into our door to Heaven.

Max Lucado takes us in a journey to explore Jesus' life from his earthly beginning to his divine resurrection. He shares with us his insights and shows us a very human Jesus, without overlooking his divinity.

The book is divided in five sections and within each section, the author highlights Jesus' most significant moments. Each section and meditation is accompanied with an illustration to allow the reader to relax and meditate on its message. Mr. Lucado profound comments and easy to follow narrative style enable the reader to understand the promise of God's love fulfilled in Jesus. The book ends with an exhortation to accept Jesus' invitation to carry our own cross and follow Him to Paradise.

I highly recommend this book for readers searching for a simple way to understand Jesus' divine humanity and His purpose for our lives.

Coffee-table book pulls from Lucado's many previous books on Jesus, on glossy paper illustrated with pictures and artwork. Nothing new here if you are familiar with Lucado, but his observant eye and trenchant reminders of the Messiah's humanity offer insights too easily missed.

For example, Jesus went to the wedding in Cana because he was invited--as a friend, not as a miracle-working celebrity or well-known messianic prophet-in-the-wilderness, for he was neither yet.

If you are interested in the insights, better bet is to buy Lucado's other books. Some of his best:

No Wonder They Call Him the Savior: Experiencing the Truth of the Cross (The Bestseller Collection)
Six Hours One Friday: Living the Power of the Cross (The Bestseller Collection)
And the Angels Were Silent: Walking with Christ Toward the Cross (The Bestseller Collection)

If you are interested in a gift to one who needs or would appreciate these insights, this would make a good gift.

I recently had the pleasure of hearing Max Lucado speak at the Christian Book Expo. I knew I would enjoy it because I've read several of his books. I wasn't disappointed.

I also wasn't disappointed when I got the opportunity to review this new Max Lucado product from Thomas Nelson Publishers.

This is a beautiful boxed book made up of excerpts from several of Max Lucado's previously written books. It's organized around the life of Jesus, beginning with His birth and carrying us through His mission, His death, His resurrection, and His legacy.

His Name Is Jesus would make a lovely gift. Some pages are mostly text, while others are photographs with snippets of Lucado's writing. The photography in the book is stunning--a perfect match for Lucado's profound words.

I absolutely loved reading the truths that were spoken in this book. The quotes couldn't be more truer.

"We are guilty and He is innocent. We are filthy and He is pure. We are wrong and He is right. He is not on that cross for His sins. He is there for ours."

"He could have lived over us or away from us. But He didn't. He lived among us. He became a friend of the sinner and brother of the poor."

"His spiritual hearing was so keen He never missed a heavenly whisper. His mercy so abundant He never missed a chance to forgive. No life left His lips, no distraction marred His vision. He touched when others recoiled. He endured when others quit."

"God lives to hear your heartbeat. He loves to hear your prayers. He'd die for your sin before He'd let you die in your sin, so He did."

This is a delightful book following the time line of Christ's life. I've enjoyed many different types of books from Max Lucado in the past and this is no exception. At first I thought this was more of a coffee table book, but after having the opportunity to enjoy it myself - it is so much more. This is a treasure and the pictures within are gorgeous. This was put together from other Lucado books, but I never would have realized it had I not known. This is a perfect gift for anyone.

Jesus...
