Layout is the arrangement of the elements of design in relation to the space that it occupies according to an overall design scheme. It could also be called the management of form and space. The objective of layout is to present the visual and textural elements that are to be communicated in a manner that enables the reader to receive it with the minimum of effort. With good layout, a reader can be navigated through quite complex information in both print and electronic media. The second title in the Basics Design series Layout addresses the practical and aesthetic considerations of the job in hand such as where and how the content will be viewed, regardless of whether the final format is a magazine, website, television graphic or bottle of bubble bath. How the content will be used is also discussed. The use of a grid, for example, allows quick and accurate placement of items and ensures a consistent visual identity from page to page, or item to item across a range of products. This book will prove indispensable for anyone wanting to acquire a thorough knowledge of the building blocks of creative design.

El libro es una recopilación de conceptos sobre diseño editorial que para principiantes, resultará de bastante ayuda. Con definiciones y partiendo de lo general a lo particular, se pretende avanzar y mostrar cada lección con un ejemplo práctico. Estas muestras de catálogos, libros, álbumes de fotografía, folletos, empaques, sitios webs ya ejecutadas vienen muy bien para visualizar su utilización, así como modo de inspiración. Coincido en que algunos detalles en la traducción podrían mejorarse, pero en está segunda edición se comprende bastante bien.

Next in this series of books - a good look at different layouts for graphic design. A print-based book, it looks into the technical terms and explanations of layout within design. There are plenty of diagrams, drawings and photos to illustrate the techniques and to provide creative inspiration.

A good book for learning more about graphic design and layout, and for inspiration for print based design work. Fantastic as a reference book to dip in and out of for inspiration for projects, or for reading from cover to cover to improve your skills and knowledge.

This series is very good, I would highly recommend them for students as a very interesting set of reference books, I remember using these a great deal during my degree.

Túl kevés információ, túl sok példához. Azt például nem értem, miért kell minden bemutatott anyaghoz kétszer leírni a tervező és a megrendelő nevét, egyszer felsorolás szerűen, utána mondatba foglalva. Elveszi a helyet a lényeges dolgoktól, és mivel kis alakú a könyv, erre megy el fél oldal. Ja, és azt sem szeretem, ha egy design könyvnek szétesik a design-ja, itt sokszor nem lehetett elsőre eltalálni, hogy melyik leírás melyik képhez tartozik, így annyira nem hiteles, amikor a helyes elrendezésről magyaráz. Hasznos része, hogy bemutatja a különböző papírokat már azzal, hogy a könyvet 4-féle papírra nyomták, és tisztázza az alapfogalmakat.
