Cait Keane and her Dragon partner Aza face threats on every side.
You’d think a gang war being fought in the shadows of her town would be the magical US Marshal’s most pressing concern.
You’d be wrong.
The shifters are pressing hard to take over the territory they believe belongs to them. Too bad Cait’s coven lives there.
An assassin that’s gunning for her may have a new ally – a second Syndicate assassin. That can’t be good.
And the Dragons on Oriceran face a threat they can’t see, smell, or hear.
In the breach stand Cait and Aza, refusing to bend or break as they fight to protect those in their care.
Fortunately, they’ll have allies. Aisling the technomancer, Sabrina the infomancer, and a new piece of unexpected magic. Will it be enough to keep the scales balanced, at least for a while longer?
And there’s always the threat of the Rhazdon artifacts, which Cait seems fated to find. The Federal Agents of Magic will need to lend a hand with those pieces of pure evil.
The US Marshal with something extra wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Oh boy! Things are truly hotting up now for Cait, Aza, and Cait's family, and village!
The Shifters are becoming much more insistent that every one of the Coven in the Village, and the people of the town, Westpoint, leaves, so they can take over the whole area.
No matter what Moira, Cait's Mother, and the new Leader of the Coven, tries to do, to come to some accord, the Shifters are insistent that they all leave.
Cait is dealing with a huge amount of problems now. Between her Marshal's job, where a gangland war is brewing in her City, between the Roses and the Dragons, plus the Assassin that almost killed Cait appearing and disappearing with his skills, and magic, Cait is finding it hard to do her job as well as she'd like.
But then Aza's Family call out to him and Cait, and they find that even Aza's Family aren't as safe as he'd thought them! So, Cait and Aza go on a small quest, to find out just what the disturbances are that are bothering the Dragons, and they find something that both worried them, and they need to deal with, whenever they have the time to do so.
It's really just as well that Cait can Portal herself and Aza, wherever they need to go!
But something terrible happens when Aisling, Cait's youngest sister, has a celebration arranged in the Coven, for her Graduation Day.
Just how much Cait can cope with, I really don't know, but it seems that adversity, rather than bowling her over, under the strain, is actually strengthening her up, as she deals with one thing after another.
Cait, no matter what she has to cope with, will see it through, as long as she has her Dragon Friend, Azasainia, by her side! As usual, I kept on reading until I reached the end of this book, as it was just too exciting to stop!
But this means it's silly o'clock, once again so, as much as I want to go straight on to read Book Six: 'Witch With A Problem', straight away, I know I need to try and catch some much needed sleep, first.
I wish that I could climb a local Mountain, and Meditate for a while, to leave refreshed, as Cait can do - just think of how much more time I'd have, to read! Lol
, I'm off to sleep and, once I DO get to read this next book, I'll then catch you on the flip side, and let you know what I thought about the book!
When we get to watch a “good” author turn “great!”
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the various series that TRC has penned (or would that be “keyed” in modern parlance?) in the Oriceran Universe. Each one has been a little bit of a thrill ride and the reader truly comes to like his characters, and sometimes, some of the ancillary figures steal the limelight too (think Zeb or Angel from this series).
That being said, I’ll be honest, I’ve read most of them because I was more interested in the story than the writing. He had me hooked and I wanted to find out what happened and how we got there. Those series have mostly relied on a central, highly active conflict as the common thread tying both the individual books in the series as well as the many plot lines into one cohesive whole. And it’s worked.
With this series, the “central conflict” is less of a battle and more of a dance. There’s a lot less mystery, instead we get to see into the minds of both sides and watch as they orbit one another waiting for advantage. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable read as a result.
I would honestly like to say that I don’t care what happens next this time, but I do. It would be such a bald-faced lie that I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face. Regardless, I find myself reading this series more for the characters than the plot and that’s the difference.
On a quite funny little note, I had already pre-written most of this review in my mind by the time I was about 2/3 of the way through this book. So imagine how I chuckled to reach his author’s notes and find him talking about writing from the villain’s POV. If I haven’t been clear yet, let me just say I like it.
Oh, and the ending….
*** No spoilers ahead, I promise***
No, the ending didn’t throw me at all. Although you did so obliquely, I felt that you had done a really nice job foreshadowing that particular development, so it wasn’t abrupt. But choosing to make THAT the last line in the book was just brilliant, because it leaves his reactions entirely to our imagination. The poor dumb bastard is NOT going to be happy.
Starting to see the problems as pieces to a puzzle.
I have a sneaking suspicion that all the bad guys or things that are happening are related. Maybe just a few of them are connected. In this book we have a new enemy on the dragons home planet. Blobs, yep I spelled it right. Invisible blobs with tentacles & their blood is like acid to dragons. Weird, huh? I'll give you 3 guesses who can sense them & the first one doesn't count. I may have forgotten to mention that dragons can't sense them. Cait is asked to investigate, of course. While she is there she hears a voice in her head that isn't Aza & follows it. She finds a tomb. Inside is a mummy skeleton & a dagger. Cait is very respectful of the mummy & it's possessions. She takes the dagger, well she did ask if it was ok first. It saves her coven from losing anymore lives. You will love this dagger. She's going to need to figure out how to conceal that next. Cait goes out on a date with Shane. Personally I think she could end up in big trouble for everything she is doing as Lexi. And being kicked off the Marshall's & SOG teams. Maybe even do jail time if she isn't careful. Back to my theory of some of the enemies being connected. At the fight with the shifters I wondered if the witch family that didn't win the leader vote was the one that helped conceal the wolves. It almost seemed like they portrayed wolves to the island. There had never been the epic number of wolves as there was on that night. The two assassins are now working together to take out the Roses & overthrow them. And a wizard we've never heard of turns out to be the creator of the blobs. He wants to capture & kill a dragon for their blood! Watch out my dear Aza, I couldn't stand it if something happens to you. You would see the rage of Brianna come out in me.
Aisling the technomancer, Sabrina the infomancer, and a new piece of unexpected magic. Will it be enough to keep the scales balanced, at least for a while longer? The enemies are starting to pile up on them and the story keeps you wanting to know more. A great series!
Cait and Az are in multiple fights and the results are getting worse
Cait has been called on by all the units she works for to battle the results of more and more malice and hatred. More fighting everywhere and in all places she is called to. Az is doing his share and they work as a team the witch with a dragon is what they now call her. And her family want her home to help the Marshals are constantly needing her and the sop unit she is in is calling more and more.
What would you think of having a coven of witches plus your own personal dragon? This young witch has both. Follow them as they travel to other worlds and seek treasure. They run into trouble but get some interesting treasure. Next, the spirit of the mountain warns them of an attack by the Werewolves that they are trying to get a treaty with. The wolves betray them with a little magical assist. Get reading to find out what happens next!
Love this series!! The author will bedazzle you with the many different worlds she tells us about! She is so go with the description of the worlds and the different things they find in them. Her action scenes are amazing and you just seem to be there. The suspense in every story is OFF THE CHAIN!!!
This would be a truly awesome series if by Book 3 at least one problem has been solved. Instead more layers are added to the initial problem with no resolution. I do not enjoy reading books like this. It's like it all about the money. It stops being enjoyable and starts dragging. If Book 6 is more of the same, I'm through.
Cait has to protect a judge, help her friend Angel track down an escaped bad guy, help the dragons with an invisible enemy and help her family keep the coven and village safe from shifters. This book was filled with action and magic from beginning to end and I did not want to stop reading until I finished the book.
Cait and Aza are trying to help the dragons figure out what is hiding in the forest. Shifters are still trying to take over Cait’s original home. Who is helping the shifters and why. Who is over the invisible threat to the dragons!
This series is like a train picking up speed... I hope it continues on it's accelerated path and punches through upcoming obstacles and barriers. Good job! On to the next!
