Samantha Jellicoe #3

Billionaires Prefer Blondes

Rate this book
Samantha Jellicoe is enjoying her new legitimate career and her romance with billionaire Richard Addison. Of course, this doesn't mean she's gotten over the urge to steal, but she's been able to fight it off––most of the time. Then she spies someone she never thought she'd see again ––her father, Martin Jellicoe. Sam thought Martin had died in prison years before, but now that he's back, she knows he's up to no good. Her worst fears come true when a new painting that Rick purchased goes missing. Sam knows her father is behind it, but with the police focused on her checkered past, this won't be easy to prove. Between keeping her father's return a secret, searching for the missing art, and saving their reputations, Rick and Samantha's relationship will be tested like never before.

Suzanne was born in Southern California sometime in the latter half of the 20th century. In the way that some people are born knowing they want to be astronauts or cellists, Suzanne always knew she wanted to be a writer. Early dreams of becoming a zoologist and writing true stories about her adventures in Africa were crushed, however, after she viewed a television special about the world’s most poisonous snakes; she did NOT want to write about how she’d been bitten and lost a limb to a cobra. Thankfully at the same time the movie “Star Wars” premiered, and she realized that she could make up adventures and write about them, and not be eaten by deadly predators while doing research.

She dabbled in romantic fantasy writing for a year or two after graduating with a degree in English from the University of California, Irvine, until her affection for traditional Regency romances led her to write one for fun. After several encouraging rejections from publishers, she snared the interest of the world’s best and most patient literary agent, who advised her to revise the manuscript. This ultimately led to the publication of her first book, The Black Duke’s Prize, from Avon Books in the Spring of 1995. A second Regency, Angel’s Devil, followed that Fall.

When Avon folded its traditional Regency line, Suzanne was encouraged to try her hand at historical romance. As she remained keenly interested in England’s Regency period, she decided to attempt another manuscript set in that time. Lady Rogue hit the shelves in March of 1997. She wrote a total of 29 books for Avon, including two anthologies and a five-part contemporary series which received a pair of starred reviews from Publishers Weekly. One of those books, Twice the Temptation, was named one of the five best romances of the year by PW in 2007.

In 2002 her well-known love of all things “Star Wars” led to an invitation to appear on the E! channel in the television special “Star Wars: The Force Is Back”, where she discussed the romance in the movie series and ended up with more air time than George Lucas.

In 2010 Suzanne left Avon Books for St. Martin’s Press, where she continues to pen historical romance novels. Her 31st book, Taming an Impossible Rogue, is set to arrive in March 2012.

Suzanne is known for her humorous characters, sexy bad boys, and whip-sharp, witty dialogue. She currently resides in Placentia, California with several hundred guppies and various other tropical fish, and handful of very loud, spinach-loving finches. And her collection of action figures and statues from “Star Wars”, “Lord of the Rings”, “X-Men”, and “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Everybody needs some inspiration, after all.

"I'm suck a mess. Why do you even want to be around me?"

"Because you keep breaking into my house"

Weird. In my experience, breaking into someone's house continually just gets you a restraining order, not a billionaire. And, okay, okay, Chris Hemsworth, I get it. You don't like me breaking in to smell your clothes. Call off the lawyers already! Sheesh! Overreact much?

Huh. I'm starting to get the creepy-factor now. Where's my lawyer?!

In this book we have Samantha and Rick in New York to attend an art auction. She sees an old friend there and voila - Rick has his new painting stolen that night and she gets blackmailed into having to steal again.

You can take the boy out of the gang, but you can't take the gang out of the boy, Yo.

Sam is put in a bad position, but she still gets all excited about getting to pull a big heist, and that kind of bothered me because this heist, that she is being forced to pull, is breaking all of her supposed moral rules on thievery. There are guns involved and it's in a crowded place during the day. As Rick states, it's not a burglary, but an armed robbery. To me, this puts Sam in a way different category than she thinks she's in. She's not a brilliant, sophisticated cat burglar, or an "adrenaline junkie", she's just a common criminal.

Dammit, Al Dogbone, I don't care how you dress, you're not a cat burglar! Just get a job and buy your own damn stuff! Sheesh!

Aside from having more of his stuff stolen, his property damaged, and his house broken into more times than the Kwik-E-Mart, Rick is getting hurt physically too. I think this guy should cut his losses soon and date someone safer, like literally anyone else, before he gets killed.

Another reread for me.

This book had the most tension and emotional so far. I’m still enjoying this series, as much as the first time around. The third book was full of tension, threads, and a MET heist that could have gone awfully wrong. Sam and Richard are growing into their relationship. Compromising when needed and settling into their feelings and the idea of a future together instead of them being temporary.

Billionaires Prefer Blondes - Not! At least not billionaire Richard Addison, he prefers former cat bugler Samantha Jellicoe who is a ravishing auburn-haired goddess. After five months together Rick and Sam have settled on one thing - they love each other. Everything else is still in negotiation.

On a trip to New York City, Sam sees a ghost, her father. Martin Jellicoe has been dead for three years so how is he attending a Sotheby's auction? Sam has a bad feeling, a really bad feeling. She is proven right when a painting Rick just bought is stolen that night and Sam is arrested for the theft. Now she has to not only prove she is innocent, but she has to discover just why Martin has returned from the grave, all the while trying to figure out why Rick has been the target.

Sexy and funny, this romantic suspense is everything I love in a book. Highly recommend the whole series. Love the back-and-forth banter of Sam and Rick, they have a chemistry rarely found. This twisty plot has Rick and Sam working together, at least most of the time. I really wish that Suzanne Enoch would write more contemporary Romantic-Suspense, she does them very, very well.

Without giving the plot away... this one really does strain Sam and Rick's relationship... I loved how Sam solved the whole thing in the end virtually single-handed!

4.5/5.0

Yep, the fun just keeps going! This is a seriously addictive series, begin at your own risk!

This time around Samantha and Rick find themselves in New York City. While at a Sotheby's auction, Sam stumbles upon a dead man - her own dad - in the shadows and undoubtably breathing! What follows is an unwanted, yet seriously thrilling, descent back into the criminal life as Sam is blackmailed into pulling off one more huge heist.

While their relationship is stretched to the limit in this installment, Rick is once again a large reason the we love these books. He does whatever it takes to keep his woman safe, happy and in one piece. Their relationship is the stuff dreams are made of (sigh!) It's absolute yummy, scrumptiousness set against the back-drop of a high-octane caper!

So, Suzanne Enoch is very reliable, but this series is ju-u-ust beginning to tip over into parody.
“Dessert, or gallery?” Rick finally asked, touching his napkin to his mouth in that very macho yet sensual and sophisticated way he had.

Another entertaining book with twists, sizzling sparks of romance and adrenaline-filled action.

Likes:
* Samantha "Sam" "Yank" Elizabeth Jellicoe, retired catburglar, now security specialist
* Richard "Rick" "Brit" "Studmuffin" Addison, gorgeous, eligible, divorced billionaire, Viscount Halford, Marquis of Rawley
* Smoking attraction between Sam and Rick
* Nicknames, Brit & Yank
* Sam buys top dollar fashion to blend with the marks
* Stoney Barstone, Sam's ex-fence, now security associate
* Aubrey Pendleton, former boy toy and now Sam's new receptionist
* Not much of Tom "Harvard" Donner, Rick's friend and Yale lawyer who openly distrusts Sam

Dislikes:
* Cover is cute, but doesn't really have anything to do with the book
* If Sam confides in Rick and he's subpoenaed or jilted he can testify against her
* Rick's ex Patricia Addison-Wallis, beautiful but a schemer
* Betrayal
* Nicholas Veittsreig, German thief, crew chief

With-reservation:

There's just something about this series that tickles my fancy. I absolutely love Rick Addison and his interactions with Samantha just crack me up.

In this one, Samantha's dad gets her involved in a museum heist with very nasty criminals. With her life and Rick's on the line, Samantha has no choice but to come out of retirement to pull this one last job but Samantha has a few aces up her sleeve to surprise the bad guys.

The only other book boyfriend that is even in Rick's class is Roarke from the In Death series. My two favorite heroes. Wouldn't it be interesting to see Sam go up against Eve? Hmmmm too bad I can't write, what terrific fanfic that would be.

5 Stars*****Sam and Rick's relationship never gets old for me. I know there were publisher issues, but Enoch really should have continued this series. She easily could have gotten at least another book out of it. I'm thinking that not enough people discovered this series, because the author is otherwise firmly historical romance. Sigh...bummer. Anyway, the good news is I still have one book left to re-read:) This installment had an angsty premise for our couple to work through. I admired both of them in this, and how they put their relationship first. The banter is, as always, amazing. ~Perfect Escapism~

I found this third installment difficult to put down, and enjoyed this theft romp with Sam and Rick. The action built up very quickly, and with some expected, unexpected and down-right left field plot twists, arrived at a delicious climax. The resolution was a little rushed, but it just makes me look forward to reading the next book in the series all the more.

Kobo+ December Reads. Tropes: Romance/Mystery, Contemporary Romance, RomCom, Love at First Sight, Knight in Shining Armor, Erotica, Favorites.

MC's h. Samantha Jellico, 20+, lives with Rick Addison (Billionaire).
H. Richard Addison, 35+ Billionaire, real estate mogul.

This is the third book in this series and my favorite so far. It is a definite page turner. I couldn't put it down, staying up to 1:30 AM to finish it. Sam and Rick have been together for 5 months now. They still have the love zing in their relationship. Problem: Sam's dad turns out not to be dead and is working with Interpol. He involves Sam in the heist. She ends up telling a cop about everything, again.
Rick and Stoney make sure she is safe. Rick doesn't like Martin Jellico and believes he is not good for Sam and will do whatever it takes to keep him from hurting Sam.

I enjoyed the story. It was fast paced, with the drama from the police, the gangsters, her father showing up after 3 years, Rick's business deal and their love affair. There was a very good balance with the mystery and relationship. They are a smooth but committed couple. Rick will do anything to keep Sam and Sam gave up being the best Cat in the business for love. I gave this 4.5 Stars.

This was an interesting book, Sam being roped into her previous life against her will. Yet so much of this book was difficult for me to believe.

A multi-billionaire so in love with his girlfriend that not only is he willing to risk everything by letting her break into someone's home but willing to accompany her. A multi-billionaire noble from england has the skills to follow a cat burglar into a robbery with the owners sleeping in the next room and not getting caught.

As you can tell, this was a difficult one for me to digest. A lot of the entire book was difficult to digest and I have begun to just skip the long long pages of sex. I am surprised the leads didnt stop in the middle of the robbery to have sex because they just cant keep their hands off each other.

I will give the next book a shot mainly because I did somewhat enjoy the premise of these books.

This book is so much better than the previous one - even better than the first one, which I quite liked. This time the author struck just the right notes, giving you exactly what you want when you pick up a book about a former cat burglar trying to go straight and work out her relationship with a super rich, hot, business guy. In this entry, Samantha's father comes back from the dead and complicates her and Rick's lives. There's an auction at Sotheby, paintings appearing and disappearing, a little B&E with peanut butter, and action piled onto action at the end. I really enjoyed this story, which has no very little sex, (easily skipped), and the feel of an old movie about it. I can only hope the series remains this good. 4 super happy stars.

In the third book of the series, Samantha and Rick are in New York to attend an auction at Sotheby's. Sam is also meeting a potential client for her fledgling security agency. But while at the auction, Sam is shocked to realize that one of the other bidders is someone from her past. Someone she thought was dead...
When she makes plans to meet this person, she doesn't realize that a whole set of plans are being set into motion including Rick's house being robbed, Samantha being carted off to jail, and then both of them being pulled into a scheme to rob the Met.
A good addition to a light, fun, and fluffy series.

I went into this book expecting a cliche billionaire romance book. I was pleasantly surprised that it's actually a heist book. I love a capable independent woman that can kick ass, but still has someone loving and supporting them. My only gripe with this book is the REPEATED mention of "omg we're still attracted to each other even though we've been together for FIVE months! that's so strange and crazy and not at all normal!!" 5 months is not a long time, if you're with someone and the attraction dies by MONTH 5 that's a bad sign. Being surprised someone still likes you after 5 months is also a bad sign tbh

Strong characters that come alive with witty dialogue. There are strong similarities to J. D. Robb's "In Death" series. Independent American female character matched by an irresistible, just as strong, "exotic" European tycoon.
The plot is interesting and kept me engaged but the "solution" to Sam's situation is simply impossible. The writer simply glossed over it and raced for the HEA.

Lighthearted and enjoyable. Samantha Jellicoe is working hard to be one of the good guys. Funny thing is it’d be easier for her to pull off the biggest art museum heist than staying legit. Being good isn’t as simple as it looks - at least for our very talented, trying-to-be-retired cat burglar, Sam.

Came across this from a donation bin. I liked it well enough but felt like it had a lot of fluff. The story as a whole though I enjoyed and the lead FC was strong willed and smart yet didn't feel a super strong connection to the characters. It was okay, had a little spice also but each scene doesn't drag on. Forgettable yet finished it.

I really enjoyed this and had no idea what I was getting into but was happily surprised. Basically a female James Bond feel with constant suspense of will she stay good or go bad, this book was escapist reading at its best. That being said like Bond movies there is gratuitous sex, if that's not your thing, easy skips in the book and really making up a nominal part. Just a delight to read overall!

This one was not as good as the first two in my opinion. It was a lot more of the will she won't she, and dealing with forces trying to split them apart. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as fun as the first two.

This one got me a little riled up in the beginning with Sam being away and Rick having to deal with being questioned by the cops alone. Like OMG where is she? How are they gonna explain this!? But it all worked out of course.

This book was probably the most well rounded plot line so far, with a lot of emotional growth for Sam...but I still found myself skimming the last 25% or so. Maybe it's just my current mindset and I'll attempt a re-read later on.

Pretty good

Not my favorite book of the series but pretty good. The characters seem stiff with each other, which changes their personalities. The stiffness is a by product of the plot. Otherwise, it would be a 5 star.
