I have to be honest. I only picked up this book because it was a book of the month for one of the groups I belong to. I saw the cover and read the back and did not have high hopes for the book. I thought it would stink. Boy was I wrong.

Not only is the story line in Warlord (the first story) good, but I got sucked in to the story on the first few pages. Not only was the story set in the future but it also made mention of the past. One of the great "cold cases" is solved in this story.

The thing that got to me were the sexy scenes. I read on the bus on my way to work. These scenes were so steamy that I would blush and really think that people were looking over my shoulder. I was kind of embarrassed but I had to keep reading. It was a page turner and I gave it 4 stars. I would recommend this story to every woman expect my mother because I don't want her to know that I enjoy stories like this :)

I loved Jane's Warlord, the main novella in this book. It was my intorduction to Angela Knight and I couldn't put it down. The science behind the science-fiction plot may not be perfect but who cares when you have a hero as hot and brooding and hunky as Baran. Time travel, Jack the Ripper (Jack the Ripper!! In a contemporary erotic romance!) and a talking wolf! Love it!

(I am inclined to remove a star for the shorter novellas following Jane's Warlord, but the main story is too enjoyable. If I could give half a star, I would)

Erotically charged, action, mystery, suspense, together with paranormal sci-fi elements - Knight is one heck of an author!

Jane’s Warlord

As the newspaper reporter at a crime scene, Jane Colby can only imagine how horrible the crime scene must be if the lead detective comes out and “tosses his cookies”. Upon arriving home, she faces a rather large man and what looks like a rather large wolf who broke into her home. But Baran and his partner, Freika, convince her that their there to save her, to protect her, from the murderer. Traveled back in time, Baran and his partner sent to stop the murderer and he needs Jane. Only, Jane isn’t meek. Strong, self-reliant, with a past that haunts her, she wants to fight and to use herself as bait, regardless of her fear. But not only does she accept that he’s from three hundred years into the future, she’s afraid she’s losing her heart to him, and worried about how much she’ll have changed once he goes back, for she’s losing her heart to him..

**Incredible as only Angela Knight can make it. With believable details, you really like Baran and Freika right from the start. What I liked was how Jane stood up to him even knowing that he could overpower her. I loved their banter, especially with Freika. Action was great, love scenes superb that make you squirm in your seat. Excellent plot well carried out. A truly fine story.

Warfem

Warfem Alina is carrying a file for the one she serves. She is to deliver the file, on the promise that her mistress, Rajin, would finally release her from duty and give her back her son. Baird is investigating a case of treason, afraid that his ex-lover, the woman he loved, is knee-deep in it. And while he doesn’t want to believe it, extenuating circumstances forced her to do as her mistress bid. But no more. Alina is tired of the threat Rajin holds over her son and will do whatever is necessary to get her son out of harms way. What Baird doesn’t know is that, even after twenty years, Alina still loves him, had been forced to leave him. Question is, will he understand and believe when the truth stands in front of him in the form of a ten-year-old boy?

**I liked this one. The action was great, the plot well done, even if it was small. I think Ms. Knight could have actually made this one into a novel instead of a novella, adding more to the story. I think my fave part is of the boy taking down the one person who could destroy them all. Perfect ending!

The Warlord and the Fem

Apparently, these last two first appeared on a yahoo group and added them to the book. Truthfully, I think they could have stayed out of the book. I won’t go really into deal, cause there isn’t much to begin with. Baird, a Warlord (not to be confused with Baird from Warfem - this Baird is a different character,) fights to become part of a mercenary group because of Kyna. Kyna is a Warfem, and Baird wasn’t her as his mate. But Kyna refuses, for she remembers spying on an “episode” with her sister and her Warlord, and it freaked her out. She swore to herself she would never be with a Warlord, would never play the submissive to their dominant ways in the bedroom. But Baird is determined. What I liked was that he did his damndest to “court” her, playing chess, talking, taking walks, all in the name of having her as his mate. I think, though, that Kyna could have fought him a little harder in the last scene, and while their lovemaking was great, it was short of spectacular. Could have been better - the whole story could have been.

Baby, You’ve Changed

Did not like - not one bit. There was nothing to it. Warfem Tamir and her ship, the Xe’vit, fight and lose the battle to Captain Gage Deauxville and his ship, the Intrepid. But he’s not after her ship - he’s after her. Years ago, as teens, Tamir had humiliated him, for humans aren’t strong enough to play the dominant, as Warfems need. But now Gage isn’t just merely human anymore, but a vampire, strong enough if not stronger, than Tamir. He intends to take his revenge on her in the way of how Warlord do. What I didn’t like was how. Until she submitted to him, what he was going to do was rape, and that left a sour taste in my mouth. Yes, I know that some have that fantasy, of being taken against their will. This was so not for me. Period. ‘Nough said.

Overall, I really liked the book and recommend it to any sci-fi, paranormal fan.

[I also reviewed this title on my blog: Ishari's Bookshelf]

I don't know what I think about this one...

On one hand, it was a pretty interesting story - I mean, where else do you meet a time-traveling, genetically altered warrior with his talking timberwolf companion? And where else do you follow said warrior and wolf as they protect a journalist from the most famous serial killer of all time (who, come to find out, is also a time-traveling, genetically altered being which is why he was never killed at the time of his infamous murders...I can buy that *cough*)?

On the other hand, parts of it were your typical paranormal/urban fantasy romance. Well, erotica would probably be more appropriate... It seemed a little "Insta-Love" to me - I mean, if above-mentioned warrior broke into my house and started going through my bedroom things, I probably would not have jumped in bed with him THAT SAME DAY like our heroine here. (Well, and since I am already married, my husband would probably frown on my jumping into bed with the warrior at any time...but that's beside the point...)

All in all, I enjoyed the book...but not enough to read the novella and short story that followed it. I thought it had the potential for uniqueness...but then slid into the realm of the cliche.

Still - like urban fantasy (or in this case, more sci-fi)? Then give Warlord a whirl.

Jane's Warlord - 4 stars - I read that book seperately, so here is a cut and paste:

A surprise. I never really thought I would like this after some of the other books I've read.

A warlord from the future Baran Avrid comes to protect Jane from a time travelling preditor. Lots of sex. She's a reporter, and has to learn why this preditor is after her.

I hate stupidity in women, so it wasn't a 5 star. She does a couple stupid things.

Warfem - 5 stars - Alaina & Baird have a romance & love 20 years ago. She would not leave her post for him & there was a reason for it. He runs into her and sparks rekindle. She acts as a slave to her house & he doesn't understand why she doesnt sue for imancipation... It's great & awwwe! Sweet!!

Warlord & the Fem - 5 Stars - Cute mini novella kind of explains what a warlord and the fems are... Answers what I've read before.

Baby You've Changed - 4 Stars - I was laughing the whole time, but I don't think it was supposed to be funny! Yes there is a Vamp!

All plots given for novellas would be spoilers... sorry! ALL SEX!!

Separated 20 years he re-enters her life to determine if she's a traitor. The are still as hot and heavy as if they'd never been apart.

The Warlord and the Fem - 5
The warlord comes across this Fem and he wants her, he chases her down and pursues her. She's afraid of submitting to him but in the end he wins her over in delicsous ways.

Baby, You've Changed - 5
This one is all hot dominance as he captures her and dominates her.

Lots of action plus the graphic sex scenes that are standard in Angela Knight books. I reviewed the first book of the four books in this anthology, Jane's Warlord so I can't add more without spoilers.

I only read the first two stories in this book, as they were connected by series. The others didn't really grab me so my review will not include them.

Jane's Warlord (Warlord #1) 4 stars

I've read this story before and enjoyed it as much this time as I did before. It covers many things I like in the sci-fi romance world: cool characters, mind-blowing sex, a great storyline, and humor. The interactions between the characters was great and the book was so funny at times, I couldn't help but laugh. This being said, there were a couple of problems. The fate of Jane's mother is never sufficiently stated. What happened to her? I know what did after reading a non-fiction book Ms. Knight wrote, but it would have been nice to include it in this one. It was touched on a lot and drove me as nuts this time as it did the first time reading it, despite knowing the answer. Also, she used the wrong words in several places in the story that just simply confused me. Like wicked instead of winked. Despite this, the story was very good and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a fun story to read and great characters to get to know and come to care for.

Warfem (Warlord #2) 2.5 stars

This one took a long time to really get going, despite all the excitement happening. After awhile, I didn't care anymore about anything but just getting through the story to find out how it would play out. It was really weak in comparisson to Jane's Warlord and something of a blah sequel. I think it would have been better as a full novel to allow for more character development and let the one reading it come to truly care for them. Instead, it's very rushed and greatly resembles deus ex machina for the fixes to many story problems. And seems to contridict itself at one point when the main characters are talking/yelling at each other.

What a disappointment! Maybe it was the genre, but I found myself scanning constantly throughout the entirety of this book.

The first story Janes Warlord, was sub-par at best. The story line was mediocre and the characters were hollow. I felt like every "love" scene was the same and the relationship between Jane and Baran was superficial. I know in erotic as well as typical romance the relationship usually progresses over a short period of time and the HEA fall madly in love with each other and usually I can buy that but this relationship left me rolling my eyes and thinking this is ridiculous. Not my cup of tea.

The second story Warfem, I actually read all the way through. I thought this story was much better. The story line was intriguing and the characters had as much depth as they could considering the length of the story. The relationship between Alina and Baird was believable and there was a measure of angst in their story. I guess I respond well to that because I liked this story.

The third story...

The fourth story...

I believe Angela Knight is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her world-building is excellent and her characters are hot, hot, hot. Warlord is 4 stories in 1 books. Jane's Warlord; Warfem; The Warlord and the Fem; Baby, You've Changed.

Warlords and Warfems are genetically engineered for maximum battle performance with computer enhanced brains and bodies.

In Jane's Warlord, Baran Arvid travels 300 years from the future to stop a killer from destroying the universe. Jane Colby is targeted as one the killer's next victims and Baran is determined to save her or die trying.

In Warfem, Alina and Baird meet again after 20 yrs apart as Baird tries to stop a traitor. He suspects Alina is traitor as well, even though the Alina he used to know would never betray him or her planet.

The Warlord and The Fem and Baby, You've Changed are both shorts, but really hot reads.

Good writing both in plot & character development. Interesting sci-fi world. The book has one long story and three short, all set in the same world. Many find the romantic bits hot, I just found it odd that the characters can't do a thing until someone is tied up. Whatever.
Overall, the story is dark but the good guys win in the end.
