A series of essays from experts on a series of topics and nations during the late 19th century. There is the issue of the time period being rather narrow, which features the authors of some essays going well beyond the period in question in either direction, but the works overall cover the specific period in history. Some topics are more detailed than others with a few chapters being rather light and a couple being particularly dense and serviceable more as references than general surveys. Overall, it is a useful text for this era of the world.
