It's a really, really short story, and there's no closure. It reads like a prequel to the next(?) book in the Elite Ops series. I need to read Wild Card, the first book in the series, before I decide if I'm going to embark on this series or not.

EDITED TO ADD: Well, I've reread this short story after finishing Wild Card and things are clearer and better now. Am I going to read the next book in the series? I'm not sure.

My Review:

Night Hawk is a novella from the "Taken" Anthology. I was able to do this in audio. I really loved this one. It was fun sexy and had a ending I wasn't expecting it to have. I really enjoyed the setup of the heroine being so mysterious, pining after the hero and how innocent she is when it comes to sexual intimacy. Then we have our hero, who is very experienced sexually and has a very powerful drive. But we also see a sense of friendship between them as they have been working together for years. I really loved seeing the heroine being such a fighter for the relationship. The hero is really experienced but also he is hesistant because he has never pursued a serious relationship until now. Its a very spicy read ({so I just skimmed those parts) but loved the story outside of that. We also see more layers to the heroine and loved the reveals in the end and seeing the hero being the one to give her clarity when she needed it. If you love suspense, spicy novellas or just a good pining.....check this one out!

While I loved what story there was, I finished "Night Hawk", an e-book by Lora Leigh, and I was like, "Where's the rest?" It was TOO short with no closure and I first assumed maybe this was just chapter one of a future book, but no. Now I'm just irritated because I felt left hanging.

I didn't know it was possible, but I just read a story by Lora Leigh that had no sex in it.
I feel a little ripped off, like going out with the town slut and only getting a kiss at the end of the date.
It was good though...but very short.

I'm loving the series so far, but this one really seems pointless. There is no closure to this short. It's only 11 pages (on my nook color) so there was really no way to do anything with it. I understand it was free from the author's web site, but it was a tease. I want their whole story.

I am very happy to inform you that the rest of Black Jack and Lilly's story is in book 4 of the Elite Ops series, and it is wonderful!!

Like Auntee said, this is almost like a prologue for Maverick and possibly a prelude to a story featuring Black Jack and Night Hawk. They've definitely got some serious chemistry going on. Looking forward to reading Maverick and seeing what happens between Rissa and Micah.

This is a nice filler story in the Elite Ops series and a precursor for book #3, Maverick, and possibly future installments. It gave us something to pass the time after Wild Card and while waiting for the release of Maverick.

A short story, 1.5 in the Elite Ops romantic suspense series, revolving around a secret organization that deals in black ops. The couple focus is on Lillian Belle and Travis Caine.

My Take
Whew, Leigh pulled me in from the start as she describes "Black Jack" walking in. Dang, he sounds so very sexy, and while Leigh writes it from a third person dual protagonist point-of-view, it's mostly from Belle's perspective.

There isn't any real action, well, not the kind one normally considers bang-bang, shoot-em-up with escapes and captures and all. But it's definitely shaping up for, hubba-hubba, action.

And Leigh is doing a good job of ratcheting up the heat! Except...she just drops us! I really wanted to give this a "3" for that...grrr...but it is well written...

The Story
An accepted contract, an assassin and traitor to find...it's just another meeting between team commander and courier. One that heats up...

The Characters
Lillian "Night Hawk" Belle, formerly an agent in Europe, works for Elite Ops.

Elite Ops
Jordan Malone is the head of Elite Operations and Belle's commanding officer.

Travis "Black Jack" Caine is another Elite Ops agent and under suspicion. He calls Belle "Lady Hawke" in his mind. She'd been assigned to his unit as courier and information gatherer.

Risa Clay ( Wild Card , 1) has had a contract put out on her ( Maverick , 2). Her father, Jansen Clay, is a traitor who conspired with Sorrell.

Orion is an international assassin.

The Title
The title is all about "Night Hawk" 's desires.

2.5 stars. Lillian, codename Night Hawk meets Black Jack at a bar to pass along information, but she really wants a much more intimate encounter. Both are Elite Ops agents who obtain new identities after their "deaths" in their previous lives.

Not much happens in this book, but supposedly this is the prequel to Maverick.

The next series after Tempting Seals. The stories follow the same formula (Alpha male protecting tough/sexy female) but Lora Leigh manages to make each story and each dangerous situation unique - yet they build off the last one and continue to be just and intriguing and exciting, additionally, the sex scenes are HOT!

Night hawk is a very short read where we get the start of Night Hawk and Black Jack's relationship. Travis and Lilian have lost it all and gained it back to do some things that will change a person forever. This is a very tempting intro that leaves you desperate for more.

1/14/10 I don't know how there can be a spoiler when nothing happens. This is a free e-book from Leigh's publisher. I downloaded the pdf and printed it out, it was something like 15 pages. It reads like a deleted chapter. I enjoyed it, but it was too short to do more than give a glimpse into the lives of interesting characters I'd really like to get to know better. The plot doesn't have time to be anything but a scene. If one has not read other books in the Elite Ops series, one probably will not like this story. Luckily I have, and I want more of these two folks. I love Lora Leigh

3/13/10 After reading Black Jack, where these characters get their story, I went back and re-read this. I still think it's a deleted chapter, but one would probably enjoy reading this just before beginning Black Jack.

I reviewed this book as part of the Taken anthology.

This is a REALLY short story. It felt like more of a chapter than a short story. There’s definite chemistry between Night Hawk and Black Jack, but there’s really not much that happens in this particular story. It’s definitely a teaser. Ms. Leigh, that was just cruel. But I’m certainly interested in reading more of this story, so I’d say the author accomplished her mission.

This seemed a lot shorter then a novella or even a short. It felt more like an entry or segment of a chapter; not even really long enough to be a full chapter. But I enjoyed the introduction to Night Hawk and Black Jack's story, which I know continues in the Elite Ops Book 4 (Black Jack). I know there is mention of Risa Clay who is in book 2 (Maverick) so I don't know why this wouldn't just be part of that book to explain Orion was after Risa. Even though I enjoyed this short short, it kind of felt pointless.

I’ve only read the first book of the series, Wild Card, as part of a Heroes ans Heartbreakers read-along, and I quite liked it. Nighthawk makes me want to go forward in the series, at least to the fourth book, which is the one actually about Travis and Lillian (the second one is about the case they discuss in the short story, but it’s another member of Elite Ops who handle it). I really liked the atmosphere Leigh had written in that short story, and well, secret agents are one of my favorite things, so I’ll probably dive into the rest of the series soon!

This was a very short story, but it really didn't feel that rushed (unlike other shorts I've read recently). I've been briefly exposed to this Elite Ops world in a previous story, but this short just reinforces that I should read the series. In this story, we watch the delicate balance between two working ops tip into romance. The sexual chemistry is off the charts and had me on the edge of my seat. Sure, I'm sad that we don't get to see where it goes, but I guess the point is to make me want to read the series (mission accomplished!).

Although they say that this is a short story, don't be fooled. This is like a prologue to Black Jack.
Absolutely nothing happens in the 15 short pages.
If you go into this book expecting an actual story, you will be sorely dissapointed. This is a prologue that Lora Leigh should have just placed in her next book.
I do appreciate the free look into it, but calling it a short story is just wrong.

I don't like short stories. Typically, stories less than 100 pages do nothing for me. I only read this one because it was between Wild Card and Maverick. However, I'm not entirely sure it was really critical to the series. We don't get to know the characters well and nothing really happens, but then again how could it in fourteen pages? Nice level of sexual heat, but I'm glad I didn't pay for this.

i enjoyed reading wild card a little. i wished they sticked with the same character throughout the series but each book represents an elite ops member and their lover. the only person i can imagine as being young and sexy is nathan malone. everyone else described in the book seemed too old (jordan), or thick headed and burly (the rest of the characters). this short story wasn't anything worth reading.

Although listed as an e-book here, this is really just a teaser for Maverick and an introduction to Nighthawk and Black Jack. It is a short story just to keep interest in the series. It does its job. Plenty of good interaction between Nighthawk and Black Jack (Travis). I'm looking forward to Black Jack's book. wonder when that one will be...

Definitely a prologue to Maverick, but not something you have to read. In fact, I read this short story after I read Maverick. Cute little story - I'm hoping Black Jack and Night Hawk get their own book (and soon) - my curiosity is definitely peaked!
