I love the idea of having a sudoku book with puzzles appropriate for both kids and adults. Unfortunately, I don’t think it is a good one. The puzzle grids go from 4 x 4 to 25 x 25… yes, this has puzzle grids going that high (with 16 x 16 ones as well). I’ve reviewed LOTS of sudoku books, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen grids that large in other books. Interestingly—and not a great idea in my opinion—is that both of the very large grids use both numbers AND letters. I think they would have been better if the puzzles were strictly numeric. After all, there’s no reason numbers above 9 can’t be used. The biggest issue I have with the book, though, is that the author didn’t put heavy lines around the mini-grids within the larger puzzle. Columns and rows are easy to see, but the squares or rectangles aren’t so easy to visualize without a heavy line showing precisely where they are. Some bigger puzzles seemed to have some—but not all—slightly heavier lines around the mini-grids, but it wasn’t consistent, and the lines weren’t heavy enough.
I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
