Of the divination systems I've learned about in my pagan readings, palmistry is by far the most hermetic.

Makes me wonder how hard it must have been to keep the tradition alive. Cute little books like this one weren't available back then-- it was all oral transmission with lots of memorization. And until not too long ago, them witches could burn for practicing/talking about it.

Regardless of my disbelief in the actuality of the divination itself, one needs to appreciate that it has (along with other pagan practices) survived long enough to make its way into the bookstores.

I have always been fascinated with palm reading and tarot cards. Recently, I went to Salem, Massachusetts, and came upon a Palm Reading event. If it weren't so much, I would have sat down and had my palm read. However, that got me thinking. Why not learn more about palm reading myself and understand the history, the diagrams, the belief behind what our palms say about our past, present, and future.

I know I have only scratched the surface of this craft, but what a great introduction. A great read indeed.

This book was organized in a confusing way. The words for and drawings of line markings aren't defined until the much later chapters, despite the fact that they are discussed throughout the entire text. You learn about the major lines but then are given examples of what they could mean based on the line markings you haven't learned yet. The examples of meanings are incredibly specific and nearly impossible to understand for a visual learner like myself, because there are no diagrams depicting them. The basic diagrams throughout the book repeat unnecessarily, while entire sections of bulky, redundant word count are dedicated to non-palmistry topics such as energy, pendulums, and crystals. A few case studies/readings are included, each one taking up multiple pages without clarifying much of text around it. So much of this book could've been entirely removed and replaced with visual diagrams, and it would've dramatically improved my reading experience. As is, I retained nothing from this book despite the fact that I studied it for hours after drawing 3 sets of palms for reference.

This book is fantastic as an 'on-the-spot-oh-my-god-I've-forgotten-everything' emergency tool for you to keep in your pocket when you are reading palms for clients. It comes in handy in a big way for a beginner doing their first readings -- like me.

It's the perfect size. Not just for portability, but also as an emergency reference book that doesn't make you look unprofessional. It's tiny enough that the client assumes you just need to jog your memory. It does not make you come across as someone who pulls out a big book with "beginner" on the front in big letters.

If you are a beginner, buy both a full size introductory book AND this one for the purpose of jogging your memory, or quizzing yourself.

Intéressant pour apprendre les BASES pour lires les lignes de la main. Il est sûr qu'il faudrait des recherches bien plus poussées pour vraiment savoir les lires mais en tout cas c'est très intéressant pour un commencement.

À lire plusieurs fois pour bien comprendre !

I was curious. Descriptions of what different lines looked like was really bad. Like whats the difference between a 'deep' line and a 'strongly marked' line? Or a 'pale' line and a 'faint' line? why wouldn't you go into that?

Also felt poorly structured....
