In Stacy Nicholson's collection of poems in 'Mystic River,' the author reminds us how poetry changes along with all other genres, and Ms. Nicholson is on the top of her game. She utilizes her words in such a way that makes it easy for the author to 'feel' emotions as your eyes travel across the sentences of love, hate, sex, happiness, despair, loneliness, recovery, and much more. Her collection of poetry demonstrates the author's passion for words and how much they mean in our universe. I could not help feeling touched by the love and tenderness of her poems on the subject of romance, along with disappointment, anger, frustration, and other emotions which remind the reader of life's struggles, challenges, and triumphs. I have no doubt we will be hearing much more about Stacy Nicholson and I look forward to returning to this book when my emotions call on me to do so, along with discovering the author's other collection of poems.

“Smooth velvet that drifts from page to page, finding a resting place within your heart” … This is the best way I can describe this poetry book written by Stacy Nicholson- an author who writes from the depths of her soul. There is an earnestness in the way she chooses her words that shows she truly cares enough to make you feel her message with all your senses. The vulnerability that unfolds within this book is breathtaking, and makes you think deeply, diving into your own human emotions… emotions you may not connect with on a daily basis.

MYSTIC RIVER is beautifully presented in hardback form, (the format I purchased), with a stunning photo of the author, showing off her piercing eyes that entrance you before you even open the book. You meet her, and instantly connect- a prelude to the intimate relationship you will have with each of her poems. You will find an explosion of emotions within these pages conveying personal trauma, love, ache, disillusionment… your soul will drink this offering.

My personal favourites: BURIED IN SNOW, SOLITUDE, LONELINESS, and especially, TRAPPED. I felt stripped and left bare ... a clean slate… almost as if my internal batteries were renewed. In many ways, I feel that not only does this book harbour a plethora of poignant emotions, it conveys a sense of empowerment… of survival and determination… even when experiencing the harsh detours life unflinchingly offers.

Clearly, Nicholson is a gifted writer who should continue creating this beautiful symphony of words. The world needs more of this… mystical beauty.

A highly recommended beautiful read… 5/5

Mystic River is an exquisitely compiled, soul-stirring collection of 128 poems with astonishing poetry that is devoted to the souls who have experienced the different emotions of life.
Each and every poem from this book will touch a different layer of your heart until it reaches the very center of your being.
"Your love—the essence of my heart and soul, And the reason I am born."
(Born for you)

Spell weaver 'Stacy Nicholson' has created mesmerizing magic with her bewitching writing. I must admit that I found myself entranced by the deep enchanting words she has used in Mystic River.

The first 40 poems are love poetry, it is sublime. The essence of her words will escape the page to wrap itself around you, engulfing you in an overwhelming sense of love.
As you move forward, there are poetries on loss, grief, and solidarity. If you can relate to such feelings then I am sure that reading this book will bring you peace and comfort. She has captured all the sentiments and emotions so beautifully that I am at a loss for words.

I have always been a fan of Stacy's work, and this book is a great example of why she's one of the very best.
Mystic River is a spell-binding treasure, written flawlessly, using rich and eloquent language.
It is so good that I simply cannot recommend this book highly enough.

A MASTERPIECE!! A MUST-READ.

Mystic River by Stacy Nicolson

This excellent book of poems will appeal to lovers of poetry, especially to readers who like love poems. The poems come across as deeply felt and moving and like they come from the deepest heart of the author. Although love poems form the largest section of Mystic River (and the section I liked best), there are also sections on Loss, Grief, and Solidarity. The Solidarity section contains poems about the author’s home country, Bosnia. She came to Australia as a refugee after the civil war that occurred during the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Nicolson’s memoir of her growing up years and exile to Australia, entitled Colour of My Heart, is also an excellent book that I can highly recommend.

Stacy Nicholson, has a penchant for finding the right words for every emotion in her poetry.
100 poems relating to love, happiness, loss, and misery fill this splendid read.
I was particularly impressed with the poems towards the end of the book about the terrible revelations of war in our time.
She relates to the Bosnian, Hercegovinan genocide of the Muslim people and the dreadful events occuring there since WW2. The poetry is sad and soul searching and should be read by all rulers the world over.
She continues to write about the devastating consequences of all wars, and of the many suffering racial discrimination.
I highly recommend this read if you are a lover of meaningful poetry.
