For centuries the labyrinth was disconnected from the world of men, containing within its walls the monster, Asterion. Though its corridors occasionally connected with the mortal world to feed, mostly it slept in between worlds as the ages of men passed. And with its slumber, though his hunger gnawed at him continuously, Asterion found some semblance of peace from his monstrous existence.
That was until the day the worlds shifted, and the labyrinth awoke once again, anchoring its entrance within the mortal world, drawing prey within to bloody its halls. Within its depths, its captive stirred and the minotaur, helpless against his hunger, hunted once again.
Since the Ravening, Vicky has led a life of a wanderer, moving from settlement-to-settlement trading salvage for hot food and shelter. In a land overrun by monsters and ever-changing forests, she has no one to depend on but herself for survival. That survival is tested in the depths of the labyrinth, where being human is nothing more than a death sentence. There she is the prey. Captured by a dangerous monster born from ancient myth, Vicky is forced to depend on someone other than herself as she is placed at the mercy of the minotaur’s hunger…and her own.
This fantasy romance has some dark themes and horror elements, including a brief erotic scene in which the labyrinth seeks to devour the heroine unaware. Blooded Labyrinth is a part of the Dangerous Monsters series, a spinoff within the Dark Spirits world.
S.J. Sanders is a mom of two toddlers and one adult living in Anchorage, Alaska. She has a BA degree in History, but spends most of her free time painting, sculpting, doing odd bits of historical research, and writing. While she has more research orientated writing under another pen name, her passion is sci-fi and paranormal romance of which she is an avid reader. After years of tinkering with the idea, and making her own stories up in her head, S.J has began to seriously pursue writing as an author of Sci-fi Romance utilizing her interests in how cultures diversify and what they would look like on a extraterrestrial platform to humans interacting with them and finding love.
2.5⭐️ The ideas the author had for this book was unique and interesting ( which kept me reading), but I felt there was a disconnect with the hero and heroine; little character development and some random information thrown in. Also, Vicky was not the most likable heroine- she came off flat throughout the book for me and I felt she often contradicted herself. The ending seemed rushed. 🤷🏻♀️ I do think this author has some intriguing ideas and I will be interested in future books by her.
A twist to the original Minotaur and the labrynth story from Greek mythology. A long book it was slow burn for the romance and the steamy situations, which didn't occur until well after 50% of the book. This longer than normal book was well written and imaginative. The main characters were really center stage for much of the book with very little interaction with other characters. The leader of the satyr flock, Barbosa, will probably feature in his own book in the future.
I most specifically enjoyed the way Sanders presented the ending. It was very retro and wholly acceptable considering that this is a retelling and expansion of a Greek myth.
What do I mean by that? Well you should read it and find out, because this book is definitely categorized as a MUST READ.
It just seemed like it was never going to end. It’s a slow burn apparently , im not good with those. I could have gone forever without reading this book. I refused to not finish it. It’s written good but just not for me.
The end was ig cute but also sad af. Like are you fucking serious??? Steam-3.5/5. Smut was great

As much as SJ Sanders can deliver Hallmark Sweet stuff in the Monsterly Yours series, she can she’ll out suspenseful adventure with The Blooded Labyrinth. Maybe I am a wuss, but I am amazed reviews don’t talk a lot about how scary this story can get. I loved that. I got thrills from the scary and spicy scenes both. It was a combo I now want more of. This book also made me certain that I must have an author crush on SJ Sanders. I don’t think she is my only author crush, but she is on that list of pen names I will always find time for. I want to build a story like she does. I want to create worlds with texture but not a bunch of paragraphs.
A fascinating book! I really enjoyed this look at the labyrinth, Asterion, and his newfound fascination, Vicky. But, over time, the labyrinth and its inhabitants have become relentless in pursuit of their goals. I love watching Asterion and Vicky falling in love, fearing for their safety as they come under attack. They receive help from a most unexpected source! This is a must-read, with a conclusion that makes me very happy.
Loved it!!! I love all SJ Sanders book and this one was sooo good!!! A little dark, lots of Greek mythology, Minotaur and labyrinth!!, plus all the angst, and smexy smut you can handle!!!! Really hoping Barbasa gets his own book!!!
I read the Monsters in love short stories and this is where is was first introduced to Vicky and Asterion. Today's earth is very different the ravening has momento pass so that humans are not the dominant species anymore. The world has lost much of its Technology and has a medieval feel about it. Vicky stumbles into the minotaurs labyrinth by accident and is taken by Asterion so that the evil of the labyrinth will not consume her. The labyrinth and Asterion are the same from earth's last and Greek mythology. He has suffered centuries bordering on madness until he finds Vicky. Together they get to know and understand one another slowly finding friendship and a deep abiding love. They must find away out of the labyrinth and defeats its evil before they can truly have their happily ever after. The ending was perfect in my opinion and heartwarming!🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖💖💖💖💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥
This was a fascinating twist on the mythology of the Minotaur with his legendary insatiable hunger. It was a potent mix of tragedy, lust, despair, hatred, and love. The love story was tender but chaotic and worked well for the personalities of both MCs. It’s a bit uncomfortable to have a MMC that wants to eat the FMC almost as much as he wants to sleep with her, but it wouldn’t be true to the mythology if that weren’t the case. I would have liked a more thorough understanding of the changes to the labyrinth by the end of the book, but I suppose that isn’t as important as getting a HEA.
Spice: 5/5
Trigger warning: murder, kidnapping , near death experiences, violence, MMC history of eating humans
Originally read as part of the anthology Lost in the Labyrinth, but purchased the full book. Below is my original review and then my added thoughts.
The Ravening destroyed the world as we know it, monsters have risen up and joined alongside humans. It’s sort of a very vague aspect of the story, it’s not really explained to the reader. We know some cataclysmic event happened that destroyed lots of the constructs of our world. We later learn human and non-human parings are not uncommon. If I had a complaint about this story, that would be the only one. I would really love to read about what happened in the before.
Vicky gets lost in the labyrinth and ends up getting stalked by unseen creatures. When she stops and accepts her fate, Asterion decides to take her home and protect her. He vows to keep her safe and we get to see the friendship grow and change into something more. Its lovely, slow burn and the spice is amazing when it happens.
Expanded: I loved all the extra bits that were added! It was so sweet, and so fun. The only thing I could ding it on was it made the first time in the anthology seem weirdly out of place. I don't know how it would translate if I had read this all for the first time and didn't know how it originally played out. Otherwise it was fantastic.
The ending was so good, kind of heart-wrenching, but in a good way! I loved it and it was worth spending the extra money to get it.
I really enjoyed this novel, although I expected it to pick up where the previous story left off in the novella so I was slightly disappointed that I read thru an expansion of the story instead. Still it was just as intriguing and well written as I expected from Sanders. I love her world building and ability to just drag you into the emotions of the characters and she hasn’t missed. I love my Minotaurs and this story delivers!
I never skim books, I lovingly read every single word. This one I skimmed entirely. Hated the h who was so useless she laid in bed cowering for 3/4 of the book. The H was running away for half the book and boring the other half. The killer labyrinth was lame. The other characters were also lame. The sex wasn't interesting, though the H had some kinky ideas that might have been.
Such a beautiful love story that capture your heart and leaves you wanting more! It has everything you want in a romance with plenty of action, drama, mystery, chaos, evil spirits, finding love, a mate, and sexy scenes that sizzles but not over the top with awesome characters? Definitely a must buy and keep them coming they are awesome!
Definitely dark, twisted and deadly. From the beginning of the story I was sucked into the world of the Labyrinth and not let go until the final page. Vicky was a stronger character than even she knew. Asterion was depicted well. Great reading. Well told story. Looking forward to more in this series. Reviewed by Who She Reads.
Extremely slow paced, not enough spice to keep my interest to get to any relative romance or action…was quite bored. Toss this in my DNF pile…but cover was interesting too bad story was too slow for me, but had there been more action in the story not necessarily sexy time, just something of real substance in first part of book it might have not a DNF.
I loved their love story.. the last few ending paragraphs made me shed a tear.. beautiful writing and the sophistication of the characters Is what engrossed me in the story the whole time. Couldn't even put it down at work. Wonderfully done, I hope this series continues.
Monster bull falls in love with a human woman from the labyrinth . They both escape from this horrible situation. I enjoyed the sexual and the mystery of their travel through humanity.
Originally I read part of this as anthology . There are so many things I would like to say but can’t without spoilers so I will suffice to say that , that was the best of endings my heart was full and everything felt complete and beautiful.
I loved this book. Could not put it down. I loved the historical to present weave. Both characters were well developed. I feel in love with them. I completely recommend this book.
This story featured a really nice couple. Both were sympathetic and had likable qualities. My only complaint is that the satyr never really acted on anything here. Maybe that’ll be in the full novel?
Read in the Monsters in Love, Vol 1: Lost in the Labyrinth boxed set
This almost too good to believe. I absolutely loved them together; one of the best couples I read about in a while actually. The world building was exceptionally wonderful, and I loved the bit of couple and family history at the end.
Loved to see Greek mythology involved throughout the story and even with a HEA! The ended honestly made me cried seeing how much their love flourished and how their legacy continued. I am curious about what happened to Barbasa
I normally enjoy this author, but this one really didn't work for me. The romance didn't seem realistic or long lasting. The characters didn't have chemistry. And the big bad was defeated wayyyyyyyy too easily
I love this world you have built so much. The tender monsters and the horror elements are so gripping. This book was just as wonderful as the others in this series.
