Never Say Never #3

Charmed by the Player

Rate this book
Things I hadn’t expected to happen on my birthday . . .
1. To go from brunette to orange when I was aiming for blonde.
2. To run into my ex and his new girlfriend, who happened to be sweeter than my favorite candy bar.
3. To literally collide with a wall of muscle belonging to Lucas Donovan, the extremely sexy cornerback on the Virginia Thunder.

Did I say collide? No, I didn’t just collide, I lingered. How could I not? The man smelled like a dream, felt like heaven, and looked like a Greek god. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought my best friend wished him for me when she helped me blow out my candles. She was all about me finding Mr. Right, except I’d never been lucky in love . . . nor was I looking.

And despite all of his wonderful attributes, Lucas wasn’t my type. So when he asked for my number, I declined. Why? Because I knew he had cleat chasers and numerous athletic supporters at his beck and call. Totally not my scene. Instead, I decided to chalk our encounter up to a perfect ending to a perfectly messed-up day.

Thinking I’d never see him again, imagine my surprise when he popped into my store to ask me out on a date. To say I was thrown a bit off-kilter would be an understatement. Maybe that was why I eventually accepted. Or it could be because I knew my best friend would disown me if I kept turning him down. Not to mention, the man had enough charm to fill my boutique and then some.

Finally happy, I figured my luck had changed. Maybe Lucas Donovan was my Mr. Right. But then my past slammed into my present. And all I wondered was what that meant for our future.

When I picked up Charmed by the Player, I was surprise how wonderful it is. The story is simple yet charming. It is short. Harley and Lucas definitely have some serious chemistry.
No graphic sex, just kissing and a lot of sweet tender moment.

Although Miss Rose using many repetitive sentences or words, it does not damper my enjoyment reading this book.
Overall it is a wonderful book.

Three times a definite charm! This series just gets better and better with each hottie Carina Rose brings us. The heartfelt emotions, humor, and teasing steamy moments make this sweet romance heat your Kindle in all the right ways. Besides falling in love with Lucas pages in, once his relationship begins to grow with Harley it is truly hard to put this book down until you hit "The End." Lucas has now joined Trent and Jackson in my all time favorite "book boyfriend" vault. #LucasIsAMs #SorryNotSorry

After some heavy-hitters the last couple of weeks, I needed a break and a stress release with some humor, heat and heart -- and sports-related romance is always a safe pick.

When Harley Benson turns down a date with NFL football star Lucas Donovan, he doesn't take rejection well, he's definitely no quitter and the game is on in his pursuit of her. Of course, every game has its share of tough plays, interceptions and fumbles but for the most part, Team Lucas and Harley come up with the touchdown time and again. So much fun-to-read, fabulous characters with excellent banter and extra points for a game-winning happily-ever-after.

Totally “charmed” by this installment and can’t wait for the next two books in February and May of 2023!

I am loving this series and Carina has once again given me characters that I can't help but fall in love with and crawl into their world. Charmed by the Player is Lucas and Harley's story and may I just warn you to be prepared for the swoon worthy Lucas and his sweet, attentive and pure focus on winning over the heart of the skeptical Harley.
Lucas is a force on the football field, but he always feels that the game overtakes who he really is so when a young woman catches his eye but really has no interest in his game on the field, she does more than captivate him. Harley is a smart, sassy businesswoman that is trying to keep her hat boutique thriving so when she catches the eye of a player you know she is oh so not interested. Now he must woo her to make her believe that he is more than just looking for a quick fling, but he may be in this for the long haul!
We are once again given wonderful characters, smart sweet witty banter and the progression of a oh so lovely and fun romance! This series just continues to get better and better.

This is the first book by this author I’ve read but definitely won't be my last! I loved Lucas and Harley’s story. I loved the banter and heartfelt emotions. I loved Harley. She was independent, stylish, and confident in herself and her shop. I loved that Lucas saw her, and her talent and worked so hard to show her he was in it for real. I loved him. He was a great brother, friend, and was totally smitten with Harley. Life definitely threw them a few obstacles, which made the book hard to put down. I truly loved every moment of this book. From the very start, I was hooked. I finished this book with a big smile, and now I want to go back and read all the other books in the series.
If you’re in the mood for a guaranteed HEA with tons of banter and emotion this is the book for you.

Nice story, fun characters and a happy ending. Really liked the plot but the ending was a tad rushed. The antagonist, while giving off a little creep vibe initially, went full-blown villain too quickly. It just didn’t seem natural and felt forced (for the sake of the storyline).

Also the conclusion was hastily wrapped up. For such a serious confrontation, it was resolved way too quickly especially on the part of Lucas and Cami.

All in all, it was an okay read.

Content: 16+ (Mostly fade to black but there are descriptions leading up to the act that warrant the rating), Moderate language.

Lucas has never been turned down by a woman so firmly before. He's used to women throwing themselves at him - after all, he's a cornerback for the Virginia Thunder, so to have this feisty, gorgeous woman tell him no is mind-boggling, and a definite turn-on. He has his work cut out for him getting her to say yes, but he's never backed down from hard work before.

Harley knows better than to give into the gorgeous football player intent on pursuing her. But what if he really is the sweetheart he's showing her he is? What if she could actually be happy with him?

Sweet, sexy, and downright swoon worthy - I love this installment of the Never Say Never Football Romance series. Lucas is quite possibly one of the best bbfs that I've read in a very long time. He's persistent without being creepy, he has a huge heart, and he's so charming and sweet. Harley is a lucky, lucky woman. And speaking of Harley, she's adorable! I mean, a hat designer?! How cool is that. And she didn't fall for the charming football player at first glance, so you know she's awesome. I love this series, and this one just made it all the better.

5 Seeing More than What’s on the Outside Stars!!

One of the things I love best about Carina Rose’s books is that she brings us characters that are real and experience things that happen in our lives that aren’t very far fetched… just like Harley’s hair debacle is similar to an experience I had, we won’t talk about that though… and just when Harley thinks her night can’t get worse, she runs face first into what becomes her future in the form of Lucas Donovan.

And so begins one of the best reading experiences I had this month. I laughed and swooned and fell in love with how Lucas went about wooing our girl Harley. This woman is fierce, intelligent and independent. And just like a lot of us, she sometimes wonders why this man that is a walking GQ model with a football jersey on wants to be with her… and the answer is so clear, she’s everything he didn’t know he was looking for! I loved their connection and how he supported her dreams and when Harley lets Lucas into her life, everything in her life is going her way…until a run-in with her past that changes the trajectory of their life together.

Can they move on from these happenings? Can they both admit their love is worth fighting for or has there been too much hurt to get a forever love? These are all the things that you’ll find answers to when you read this wonderfully fabulous book.

This author is an automatic one click for me. I’m loving this series! Lucas was the most charming man ever. He never had to work for a woman but he knew Harley was special. The last thing Harley expected to find on her birthday was a man. This couple will keep you flipping the pages! Their chemistry was instantaneous. Harley fought what she felt for as long as she could but Lucas showed her what being charmed really meant Don’t wait to grab this fabulous read.

Hats off to the author for another great book in the series. Right from the beginning of this story, it's hard to put this one down. But when life throws an interception off the field, it takes a lot of strength to pick it all back up and run with it. But when you do, will your heart be in tact? Read this one to find out.

Once again, a great book! I've really enjoyed this one. Same as the other two in the series, it's an easy read. I love the communication between the characters and the lack of stupid misunderstanting. The MC know what they want and they go for it and even though there was a slight misunderstanding near the end of the book, it was quickly and logically resolved and this is something I really love about these books.
Harley was a calm, rational and sweet heroine. Lucas was a nice and down to earth hero who knew what he wanted and just went for it. I loved them together!

All in all enjoyed it and will continue with the series.

I am totally Charmed by the Player! Carina Rose has given us yet another winner in her delightful Never Say Never Football romance series. This time around we get Lucas Donovan's story. He's the very sexy cornerback for the Virginia Thunder and his meet-cute with the beautiful Harley Benson is just the start to his attempts to win her heart. With Harley a bit skittish to start anything with Lucas after her former boyfriend Trevor not only broke up with her but is now engaged to the sweetest woman ever and has also moved back to Virginia, the determined rising football star definitely has his work cut out for him. But I had the best time watching as Lucas stops at nothing to make sure Harley is his forever.

Rose has found her sweet spot, no doubt about it, with these adorable storylines. With the combination of wit, swoon-worthy men, and independent and selfless heroines, I can't get enough. In this latest entry, Harley is a master hat designer. I loved that she wore one every day and came up with outfits that were only made even brighter by the adornments on her head. And the fact that Lucas appreciates her gift and her style only made him that more attractive to the hesitant Harley. Clearly helping her heart soften a bit when he will do just about anything to make her want him more and help make her shop an even bigger success.

Lucas works hard both on the field and in his attempts to make Harley his. In addition, his sister Lily is everything to him so when a series of coincidences not only shock but attempts to rock the boat that both Harley and Lucas are working hard to keep afloat, I knew then and there it was going to be rough seas for these two going forward.

But Rose has a way to encourage her characters to see the light when all might seem a bit dark that is never cheesy nor ridiculous. In fact, grand gestures are her forte and I was thrilled when happiness was finally within Lucas's grasp as he gives Harley the time she needs all the while planning the perfect way to keep her in his life. The man is a keeper of the highest order. Sigh worthy like nobody's business!

I do have to make mention of Harley's bestie, Sophie. That woman is a force of nature and although she hasn't yet met her match, I'm hopeful Rose gives her a man in the near future who will rock her world as much as Lucas has rocked Harley's. She's there with a shoulder to cry on when needed and a bottle of wine to celebrate all the good her bestie achieves. She's a great addition to this story.

Once again, when looking for that easy-read and guaranteed HEA, look no further than a Carina Rose book. Charmed by the Player fits the bill wonderfully and is the consummate pool/beach read. You'll smile with every turn of the page.

5 big stars!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥

To get ready for the upcoming NFL season, I like to find a solid and steamy football romance to get me going. The third book in Carina Rose's Never Say Never series was the right pick to kick off this season.

Harley's birthday is not going as planned. When her attempt to go blonde resulted in her looking like Carrot Top's cousin, she should have known the rest of the day was not going to be any better. She ends up seeing her ex-boyfriend at the bar, and the Boy-Who-Wouldn't-Commit is now engaged to another.

While Fate may have pulled a couple pranks on poor Harley, it did leave her with a sweet birthday present in the form of Lucas Donovan.

Lucas Donovan. Hardworking quarterback of the Virginia Thunder. Supportive brother of one. Loyal friend and teammate of many. Unrelenting admirer of Harley.

I love that Lucas is the one who falls first -- and hard -- for Harley. His determination -- while respecting boundaries -- to woo Harley was definitely fun to read. Don't get me wrong: Harley is every bit his equal in this read. Despite her heartache, she proves herself to be strong and resilient.

Carina Rose does a great job of navigating us through an emotional roller coaster ride. She weaves a great balance of comedy, romance, drama, and spice to pull readers in and keep them turning those pages.

While this book can be read as a standalone, it is part of an amazing series that will always be a must-read for me. If you're a sports romance fan looking to get in the mood for the upcoming NFL season, this is a pick for you.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Carina Rose and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for providing an ARC. **

Ohhh this book!! I absolutely loved it. Phenomenal!

Charmed By The Player by Carina Rose is a heartwarming story. I went through a gamut of emotions. I really loved how sweet Lucas Donavon was. You could feel his sincerity about Harley when he spoke to her and about her. Any hero who is a sweet as sugar always has my heart. And Harley what a sweet and strong heroine. She’s a little quirky but would do anything for anyone. I absolutely love her heart.

As always Charmed by the Player is a soft romance that truly captivates you from the very beginning. This is one of my most favorite series and Carina has given us a total touchdown with this story.

A romance that is wholesome. Highly recommended!

A*R*C team read.

This book was a 3.5 star read for me. I liked the insta love feel the book had with Lucas falling instantly in love with Harley.

Harley was a good solid character too, she was different than other female leads Ive read.

For me it was a tad bit too long, I didnt really care for the added drama and how no one believed Harley over her ex. The whole my sister always comes first was blah to me. My own personal trigger and turn off.

Over all it was ok. Slow and steady and at times entertaining.

I love these books about football - but I do think I'm getting a little tired of the same old story. I'm glad I'm to the end of the series because it's time for a break.

Savannah Peachwood was great, but I'm just not feeling the narration by Aaron Shedlock. I didn't like the character he voiced nearly as much. And I miss the duet style narration from the first book. I wish they'd go back to that.

Safe to say that the good reads average rating on this book is spot on 3,8 it gets

It was very cute 😂 🥹❤️ and funny in the beginning but a little to spice for my liking, it has very funny moments and cute ones.

Since it is short you can kind of tell something will be missing some moments . Like do you how in longer books the relationship between the two main characters kind of develop without be so straight forward like they are almost always in that between place but at the same time not
Am I making any sense probably not but needles to say that I had fun reading this. dont know if i will read the rest of the books in the series but we will see
Also I wanted Lucas to beat Trevor and more jealousy peace out

Not having read a book by Ms. Rose before I eagerly jumped into this one...and oh, what a delight I found it to be! A charming first meeting, a drool-worthy hero, and an endearing heroine, all collide to make this a fun and flirty romance with a bit of steam and lots of heart and soul. Readers will find this a delightful read with only a bit of bumpiness in an otherwise smile-inducing tale that had me eagerly turning the pages.

Lucas Donovan is a football god, both on and off the field, with men wanting to be him and women wanting him. He's a man who has everything, a man used to getting whatever he wants with ease. The moment he meets the woman with orange hair though everything changes. He has to come up with a new game play with her as she's not the kind of woman to fall easily at his feet. He soon becomes a man on a mission and is slow and steady in winning her over, showing support for her hat design business and appreciation of her talent...there's nothing sexier. Every step of the way Lucas is a sweet and sexy hero, loving to his sister, more than what others think him to be as he's more than just a pretty face. His words and deeds are what every woman wants when it comes to romance and when fate intervenes in their fragile, burgeoning romance he becomes the King of Grand Gestures in claiming Harley completely.

Harley Benson is still getting over her ex when she runs into a man who's going to change her life completely...even though she has no idea who he is at first. Finding out who he is doesn't make her want him though as she thinks the football player is a player off the field too and ignores his efforts to get her to go out with him...at least at first. After a slow burn build-up he finally proves himself to her, but just as she becomes willing to put her heart into his keeping, fate intervenes to leave her doubting herself once again in a charming and hard-fought journey to HEA. Harley's a wonderful heroine, one who's very easy to relate to as her life is full of realistic hiccups that has her rolling with the punches. She's kind hearted, immensely likable, and so worthy of someone as loving as Lucas. I was definitely rooting for her every step of the way.

From the first page to the last this was a sweet and sensual journey full of witty banter and charming interludes. I normally like my romances with more steam, but the slow-burn here worked completely for me. The journey is what made this story such a delight and each word and deed coming from Lucas made this story better and better, so I found that I didn't miss the sizzle that much. The speed bump to their happiness is one that is surprising and is luckily resolved without too much annoyance...and it allowed Lucas to once again show why he's the quintessential book boyfriend. Along with a wonderful main couple was the equally wonderful Sophie, Harley's best friend and subtle matchmaker when it comes to the burgeoning couple. She was a strong support to Harley and I found her to be someone I'd love to be friends with, someone I truly hope gets her own story one day. Ms. Rose crafted a definite winner here and while this was my first book of hers it won't be the last!

What a cute read!! I have loved this world of sports romance that Carina Rose has created since the very first chapter of the first book in this series! There’s just something fun and lighthearted, but also full of emotion and love (and a little drama) in each of these books! Lucas and Harley’s story was no different! I usually gush about the male lead in my reviews, first at least, because who doesn’t like it when the guy is exactly the type of guy we want to read about?? But- for this book, most of my gushing is going to Harley! I just love everything about her. She has this sense of strength about her, this fierce independence and this strong ability of knowing her worth and sticking up for herself that I so adore. She goes through difficult times and allows herself to feel them, but she also looks at things logically and emotionally, not one or the other. She is clearly fashionable based on her outfit and hat choices (in my imagination at least) and seems to be a great friend to Sophie as well. She’s kind when she doesn’t have to be (above and beyond with how she treated Cami) and fair. She’s willing to sacrifice for the people she cares about, whether she’s known them a week, months, or years. I just love the woman that Harley represents.

Lucas, on the other hand, I had mixed feelings for! He started off SO strong. I love his heart. I love his relationship with his sister. I love his focus, his determination, his work ethic. I love how he pursues Harley. I don’t love the lack of fight at some points. I don’t love that a certain someone didn’t get at least a nice talking to. I don’t love that he was willing to just let some things be. I know there were some tough things that happened in this book and tough places to be and to know what to do, but he did not respond the way I wanted dang it lol!! The good news is he eventually had a lightbulb moment and began to show me the things I so wanted to see and reminded me why I loved him so much in the beginning!

The end of the book was wonderful. I loved everything about it. I am so excited to read Collin’s book. I’m also desperately hoping Sophie gets her story told too. Overall, I am just head over heels for this football team and it’s family and want to read all about them, every one! Keep these stories coming, please!! I always look forward to them!!

~3.5 stars~

Charmed by the Player by Carina Rose was such a cute sports romance! Lucas and Harley were so sweet together and the author put just the right amount of emotional drama to make it interesting. Lucas is swoony to the extremes and Harley is just a sweetheart.

Famous football player Lucas collided with hat boutique owner Harley when she was running from a pub after accidentally meeting her ex boyfriend and his fianće. Lucas instantly likes her and decides to pursue her. She doesnt believe it at first but Lucas is sincere and persistent. Just when they are slowly getting hang of their new relationship, it is exposed that Lucas' sister is the Fiancè of her ex boyfriend. Things get awkward and complicated, specially because that ex boyfriend is a bad guy but she cannot make Lucas or her sister believe it without proof. So is this the end for them?

It was a warm cozy lazy kind of read. Lucas is so nice and charming. He is not a player off the field. He pursued Harley wholeheartedly. Flowers, sweets, thoughtful dates, simple but meaningful gestures- the whole shenanigans. I had a blast with them. Harley is very level headed. She wasn't carried away by the fame or money. She waited to see if Lucas really likes him. She is kind and witty and just an adorable person without a single malicious bone. And that's why it was harder for her to stand up and show the true colours of the ex boyfriend. She respected the unique bond between Lucas and his sister. This tension created the elements of heartbreak and misunderstandings but like every good love story, all got sorted out nicely and organically at the end. This was not a super steamy one but definitely a slow burn one. Lucas and Harley have an easy friendship with undeniable attraction from the beginning. As they spent more and more time together, love grew slowly but surely. Overall I had a good time.
