This is a charming book about relationships that has some interesting insights about forming and keeping friendships as well as work relationships. Emily’s disability of blindness and how competent she is in the sighted world was amazing to me to read, particularly since my sister has macular and is currently losing her vision. I loved the guide dog Garth who has his own chapters in which he offers his opinion about how the humans are acting. That dog has a lot of wisdom to offer the world if he could only speak! Zoe and Diedre are at first both annoying and then increasingly disarming as they overcome the obstacle of having already judged each other to be unworthy of friendship. Neither girl has the self-confidence to stand alone but together they learn to stand against peer pressure. I enjoyed the realistic aspects of the novel, especially all that I discovered about how Emily coped with her sightlessness and the good humor she consistently displayed. I enjoyed the credible characters and the way that both of the protagonists, Emily and Grant, work jointly to get their pre-teen charges to think before they judge and to learn to accept each other. Even the secondary characters were well-developed and credible. I enjoyed getting to know each of them and how they interacted with one another. My favorite part of the book was reading how much Emily enjoyed the world around her even though she could not see it and how well she did her job in spite of her physical limitations. This book was engaging, informative and inspiring!

OVERCOMING THE OBSTACLES!
Barbara Hinske’s Guiding Emily Series, starring the beautiful black Labrador Retriever, Garth, is one of my favorites. I am partial to black Labrador Retrievers myself and I love to read these books that are written with the Lab’s perspective! In Book 3, Over Every Hurdle, Hinske has written a story that provides readers with their favorite characters overcoming the obstacles in their personal relationships, work relationships, and in potential longterm relationships. Hinske has proven again that she knows how to write books that always have an interesting plot, teach us new things about people who are living without their sight, have dynamic family relationships, beautiful love stories, and always give extraordinary insights into the life of a guide dog.

I loved both the opening and closing settings of this charming third installment in the Guiding Emily series! Barbara Hinske has done a wonderful job in making all the characters equally important and active in this story, and I felt like I was in the book with them. A happy book full of hope and real people that one wishes to meet in daily life.

I enjoyed reading this book. It's the latest in a series, but I had no trouble reading and understanding the storyline. The author has provided an aid to the reader with a character guide. It's at the end of the book in the advance reader copy that I read. I think it would be more helpful for the reader for it to be at the front of the book.
Emily was blinded soon after her marriage, which ended quickly after the wedding. Her friends have helped her get back on her feet and in this book, she is a highly functioning manager, with competence in her field and in using technology to keep on top of everything her job requires - and then some. She has a wonderful guide dog. In fact, the story from the dog's point of view is sprinkled throughout the book. The book also provides insight into challenges presented every day to the visually impaired, but shows Emily overcoming every hurdle.
The story is one of friendship, perseverance, and love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and there were a couple of points where I laughed out loud. The tone of the book was simpler, less complex than some of the author's other books. I can recommend this book for almost any age group.

Over Every Hurdle is the third book in the Guiding Emily series and the first one I've read. I plan to read the others and hope there are more books since there seems to be more stories to tell.
It was a little slow for me initially while I worked through the characters and their relationships. Once I had them pictured the story had a good flow and lots of stories were woven together. Emily, her boyfriend, Grant and their respective daughters, Zoe and Diedre played important roles throughout along with Zoe's guide dog, Garth. I found it interesting that some of the chapters were from Garth's perspective and how human he seemed in telling his part of the story.
There was a depth to the characters, even the secondary ones and there were several happily ever afters throughout. There were many heartfelt and heartwarming moments that left me with a good feeling. There was also a lot of problem solving whether job related, with family, friends or relationships. There are many dogs who added another layer to the story and more than one vision impaired character - not just Emily. There is closure but I wish the story had gone on a liitle longer.
Ms. Hinske is a new to me author only having read her two novellas in The Wishing Tree series. I've added some of her other books to my always growing TBR pile.

Emily lost her sight but manages to live a relatively normal live. She works on a cybersecurity team and is the ward of Zoe, whose grandmother passed away. Emily meets Grant, who has a young daughter Zoe’s age, but although there is an attraction between Emily and Grant, there are a few snags preventing the two of them from starting a relationship.
A story of family, friendships, work relationships, surprises, new beginnings and a couple of HEAs.
The storyline includes thoughts from Emily’s guide dog, Garth, who is a real sweetheart.
I enjoyed the storyline but, if this is the last book in the series, I feel there was a matter that didn’t have closure in this book regarding Dhruv and his discovery/advice.

I have read this book 3 times since I purchased it. I am in love with this series. I love the way we are getting so much education on the things blind people go through that we could never imagine or think of. The way the author portrays all this information in using a family situation makes it so enjoyable

Over Every Hurdle - a fun book and aptly named.
Barbara Hinske has written a very enjoyable and informative book that is fun to read. Two of the lead characters are blind, and much of the story has an undercurrent of the reader learning how sightless people cope with everyday tasks and some that would seem daunting to even a sighted person. One example would be taking an airplane flight for business and addressing a meeting in a strange city. (Ms. Hinske has certainly done her research!). It is also a fun story involving a couple of kids learning to enjoy each other, a surprise wedding, and two Leader dogs,one of which tells his story in alternative chapters. We’ll done- five stars!

This is the third book in Barbara Hinske's Guiding Emily series. I received an Advance Reader Copy nd I am grateful for that. Ms. Bundle is a master storyteller and she never disappoints.
Emily and her guide dog, Garth are back along with old and new friends. Romance is in the air for more than one couple. Cyber security threats are a concern for the company where Emily works. Two little girls are in need of a friend and both are afraid to reach out.
This book is a very interesting and enjoyable read and I am already anticipating a fourth book. I highly recommend this.

Over Every Hurdle continues the story of Emily Main and her guide dog Garth. The author does a great job of handling the subject of vision loss in a compassionate and realistic way, providing insight into the challenges and inspiration in the way that they are handled. The reader is even given Garth’s perspective in the chapters written from his point of view.
The relationship between Emily and Garth is compelling on its own but is made all the more enjoyable in its setting amidst friendships, families, career challenges, and romance.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable read with great characters and multiple surprises along the way.

A great book. Told from two different points of view, Emily who has had a tragic accident loosing her sight and her guide dog Garth.
Emily is learning to navigate the world and continue working her computer based job. She also has become the caregiver for a young girl Zoe. Great friendship and work related relationships.

What a delightful series! This is book three but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story. Emily Main, a blind young woman who has become the guardian for precocious Zoe, throws a bridal shower for one of her friends. Unfortunately, Zoe and Diedre, the daughter of Emily's new male friend Grant, each thinks the other doesn't like her. Emily also deals with a challenge at work involving her best programmer and friend Dhruv, who is dating Emily's blind friend Stephanie. By the end of the novel, Zoe and Diedre are helping plan the surprise birthday party that Emily is giving for Stephanie. What a surprise it turns out to be! This is a heartwarming story of conquering hurdles and celebrating love!

The story has everything anyone could want - it certainly wreaks the emotions, but author Barbara Hinske skilfully navigates the wafer thin line behind depressing and inspiring. She falls on the latter. This is a feel good book - and my favourite character is Garth, though all the characters are strong.
It's a life affirming book in every sense of the word. I cannot criticise this wonderful book.

This is the third book in the series. In this book, Emily becomes the guardian for Zoe does not want to live in her grandmother’s home. Emily finds a bigger apartment unit in her co-worker’s uncles apartment building. Emily gives her lease to a gal she met at the Blind Foundation. Stephanie is a teacher and got a teaching job at a school very school to the apartment building. Stephanie meets Druv’s and sparks fly between them. Gina meets a guy and becomes engaged and marries him. It turns out he has a twin brother with a 9 year old daughter. The two begin to show interest in each other but the two girls don’t hit t off. The electrical power goes off at Gina’s wedding so there’s some improvising done This book was very interesting and one I couldn’t put down once I started reading it.I loved reading this book and I have book 4 already loaded on my Kindle.

Emily's friendship with a man she met at her best friend's wedding grows, while his nine-year-old daughter Deirdre has a more complicated relationship with Zoe, Emily's nine-year-old ward. There's also trouble at work that takes her and Garth to Denver.
This is a sweet book, full of positive lessons about the blind. There's delicious food, beautiful clothes, and supportive family and friends. The sections narrated by Garth provide humorous detours. A solid if predictable plot and too much explanatory dialogue are the only things that mar this otherwise delectable tale.

There is animosity between Grant’s daughter, Diedre and Emily’s Zoe that threatens Grant and Emily’s growing relationship. But Gina has an idea that just might help. Dhruv and Stephanie have their own ideas and Zoe and Diedre just might help them out. This is the third book in the Guiding Emily series and doesn’t disappoint. Be sure to read this series in order! It is fascinating what tools are available to blind people and Garth is always a delight! Thank you to the author for my ARC; all opinions are my own.

I do not know the words to express how much I love this series. I love the story line and the characters. The writing is so authentic. I know this from having friends who are blind and have guide dogs. The friendships in this story are wonderful, especially after some of them have some rocky moments. Just like real life. I love when Garth tells us what he is thinking. He may be my favorite character. I highly recommend not only this book, but the entire series. I received an ARC of this book (thank you!), but my opinion is my own.

Another wonderful story, ending perfectly.
I do hope there will be another installment of this series. There are still a few loose ends to wrap up, as faithful readers can attest. This has been a lovely series. I've learned quite a lot about the bond between a visually impaired person and that person's guide dog. I am grateful to Ms Hinske for inserting so many instances where this knowledge will come in very handy in the future. I highly recommend this series not only for the entertainment value, but also for the valuable lessons inserted throughout.

I binge-read the three terrific books in this series, and wish it would continue on with these great characters, especially the two main guide dogs, Garth & Biscuit. Guiding Emily, The Unexpected Path, and Over Every Hurdle were very interesting and had great information about the amazing resources that are available now for the blind or vision-impaired. I truly enjoyed these people and their animals, and will look for similar books for my library.

I love the cross generational relationships woven into this series. When I finished reading this book, it was like, “no, this book can’t end here!” Through author Barbara Hinske’s writing, the characters and their lives are so vivid, you will experience all the feels and emotions elicited throughout the book. What an incredible life Emily Main lives with her guide dog Garth following the loss of her vision. You won’t want to miss out on the journey of Emily and those around her!

I really enjoyed this very cute quick read story. This is the 3rd in the series but can be read alone, as I have done. A story of family, friendships, work relationships, surprises, new beginnings. Emily lost her sight soon after her marriage and than it didn't last. Emily became the ward of Zoe after her grandmother dies. Emily also meets Grant. This was such a good story. Thank you Barbara for letting me read an advanced copy.

Over Every Hurdle, book three in the Guiding Emily series by Barbara Hinske shows Emily’s fortitude, courage and triumph over hurdles she encounters, due to her blindness. It’s heartwarming, easy to read, insightful to the world of blindness, the importance of Garth her service dog and offers romance, new beginnings, independence and Emily taking guardianship over Zoe. It proves no matter what obstacle life gives you, it can be overcome with hard work and perseverance! I give it 5 stars!

Over Every Hurdle is an insightful, inspiring, tale of love, friendship, surprises, new beginnings and work relationships including commentary and observations from Emily's guide dog Garth. Mrs. Hinske writes very realistic, masterful tales that get me completely wrapped up in the story and characters. This is a delightful book that I highly recommend. I was given an advanced copy of this book, but this opinion is mine alone.

What a wonderful continuation of Emily's story not to mention who wouldn't fall in love with Garth. As Emily continues with a new relationship she finds that the two children involved are all in and supportive of the relationship. Great story as we also get to share in the heartwarming wedding of one of my favorites, Dhruv! Can't wait for the next book to see how Emily's new relationship blossoms!!!

I loved getting to know Emily and the rest of the people in these books. The characters are very well written. I feel like they all have become friends. I loved the way Garth was able to tell his view point. I especially liked the way Emily's struggles were written. It's hard to imagine that people really go through these situations. All three books in this series are wonderful! - Bruce's wife.

It was worth the wait
I was patiently awaiting this third book of the Guiding Emily series. It continues the story of Emily, a young blindvwoman, and her seeing eye dog Garth.
This one starts with the wedding of Emily's best friend and focuses on many different budding relationships. There are love stories and friendships filling the pages.
The struggles and triumphs of Emily are written so well and it ends leaving me wanting even more.

I love this series! The story just keeps getting better with each new book in the series.
I've learned so much about the technology available to the blind community. And the bond
between the dog and their person is amazing.
I especially love the fact that I could read anything written by Barbara Hinske and never
read bad language or steamy sex scenes.

Another wonderful addition to the Guiding Emily series. As always, Garth steals the show and made me laugh on a regular basis.
What I especially enjoyed is that Emily’s blindness is no longer the main focus of the story. We are still given insight into blindness skills but the narrative feels like it focuses more on Emily’s life and relationships beyond her blindness.

I really enjoyed the 3rd book in this series. I love getting to follow Emily through her journey. She is thriving and inspiring in this installment. You also get to dive more into the relationships of her supportive friends and family. Looking forward to what is next for Emily, Grant, the girls and of course Garth. The chapters from his perspective are always precious and funny. He deserves more Cheetos 🥰
