Wandering Spirits

Rate this book
In the early 19th century, the English began a daring love affair with all things Egyptian. This is the tale of a party of young souls that go looking for a great treasure without fully understanding what they seek or why it has been created. You will enjoy this surprising story of love, destruction, death, and faith if you like classic Victorian ghost stories.

Darius, the second son of a very wealthy Alexandrian merchant, is tasked with escorting a party of Englishmen into the deep desert for reasons they refuse to reveal. He discovers, both to his dismay and delight, that one of the number he is charged to protect is a woman of great beauty and fine character.

What he does not know is that all those he must safeguard are engaged in a most foolhardy and misbegotten adventure, and that leading them where they demand to go may very well cost him his soul.

Cultural misunderstanding, deceit, hubris.
English aristocrats travel to Egypt where they obtain the help of a Muslim man in his twenties. They originally claim they just want to visit an ancient ruin in the desert. They slowly reveal their real intent, which horrifies their Muslim guide. Very good read.
