The book was published in 2018 and has massive amounts of data from sociologists and surveys, from academics and sports figures.. it's a wide array of supporting documentation about how a society, a city, and especially how an individual rebounds from tough times and situations not necessarily of his or her own making. It's the ability to change and become the person or culture, the city or organization in a new era that they define as mastering challenges, which is their term for 'resilience.'

I found the book full of data and therefore at times a bit daunting and 'overkill' BUT don't let dissuade you from the big(ger) picture they paint throughout, that tough times will come on us all. It's how we handle those situations and troubles that define us. From a land mine blowing off a foot to Michael Jordan missing over 9,000 shots (he ended with missing over 12,000!).

Here's Jordan's actual quote: "I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
