از جمله کتابهایی که خوشحالم نوشته شده.
مثل "احتضار اروس"، "عشق و آگوستین قدیس" یا هر کتاب دیگهای که به آدمهای بیمزه و خشک و پول پرستِ عصر مدرن بگه دارید محبت، عشق، زنانگی و مادرانگیِ زمین و زندگیتونو از دست میدید و فراموش میکنید بنابراین حقتونه اگر شبها به جای دوستان یا معشوقهتون با chatGPT حرف میزنید و ۲۰۰ سال دیگه هم با رباتها بجنگید و زمین و زمان و زنانتون رو بهشون ببازید.
حالا اینارو که از دل پر خودم میگم ولی هدف و خلاصهی کتاب همینه.
در نگاه اول که با توجه به جلد کتاب ممکنه فکر کنید نویسنده زن هستش اما مثل خودم اشتباه میکنید، درواقع نویسنده رابرت جانسون نویسنده، روانشناس و یونگشناس برجستهی آمریکایی هستش که از تحلیل نقش زنانگی در تاریخ و نمایشنامههای باستانی شروع میکنه و کل کتاب رو با حکایتهای جالبی از شرق پیش میبره و حتی خوانندهی غربی رو سرزنش میکنه که ما خویشتن خودمون رو گم کردیم و باید احیای زنانگیِ درونمون رو از سرزمین شرق از نو احیا کنیم!
چون همونطور که از آثار یونان باستان داد میزنه زن ستیز بودن و این تا اخیرِ اروپا تا وقتی که نیچه بیدارشون کرد ادامه داشت اما در شرق اینطور نیست و حکایتهاشون قدرت و افسونی که زن و زنانگیش داره رو پنهان نمیکنن.

«زنان امروزی احساس میکنند به ناحق، باری بر دوش خود حمل میکنند که متعلق به خودشان نیست.»
زنان امروز و نمیدونم. ولی در مورد من درست گفتی رابرت. خسته شدم از فشار جامعه. فشاری که مجبورم میکنه مثل یک مرد رقابت کنم و مثل یک زن دائمالزیبا و خوشگل باشم. همچنین خسته شدم ازینکه حل کردن معادلات ریاضی و نوشتن کدهای برنامهنویسی و بهبود دست فرمون با ارزشه، ولی یه توانایی بزرگ من هیچ ارزشی به زندگی من اضافه نمیکنه و حتی مانع پیشرفت از پیش تعریف شده هم هست. احساساتم. احساساتی که باعث میشه توانایی اینو داشته باشم که بشینم پا به پای تو به خاطر مشکلاتت اشک بریزم و تورو در آغوش بکشم، ولی دائما باید سرکوبش کنم، توی جامعهای که بیاحساس بودن موجبات تمرکز و دریافت کردنِ کمترِ ضربهها رو فراهم میکنه.
تمرکز کتاب روی اینه که بگه احساسات و روابط انسانی (ارزشهای زنانه) در جامعه امروزی گم شده و این خطرناکه.

سعادت، آسایش و آسودگی از مهمترین چیزهایی است که بشر پیوسته در حسرت دستیابی به آنان است چرا که این مولفهها از انسان دور بوده و در عوض جنگ و اختلاف پیوسته به وی نزدیک. فقدان روح زنانه باعث میگردد که بشر از سعادت، شادمانی و آسودگی دور بماند. «رابرت الکس جانسون»، نویسنده، روانشناس و یونگشناس برجستهی آمریکایی، در این کتاب، از امر زنانهی ازدست شده در جهان نوشته و بازیابی و زنده کردن این نیروی بزرگ و غریزی حیات فردی و اجتماعی را معرفی کرده است .این کتاب با استفاده از داستانها و اساطیر به الزام توجه به هویت زنانه در جوامع میپردازد.
بهترین نتیجهای که میتوان از کتاب حاضر گرفت این است که زمانی میتوان به سعادت و آسودگی دست یافت که توجه افراد به جنبههای زنانگی از دست رفته جلب گردد. بدین ترتیب شاید زیستن معنایی دیگر بیابد و انسان نیز از بودن خویش رضایت خاطر به دست آورد.

Oftentimes when I sit down to add books on Goodreads, I find myself wavering between ratings. "Is this more of a two or a three? A three or a four?" It isn't very often that I find myself wondering, "Should I give this book a one or a five?" Enter Femininity Lost and Regained.
The opening chapters of this book had lots of five-gold-star moments. Johnson began his work by indicting Western civilization’s obsession with and exaltation of the characteristics typically assigned to masculinity – physical strength, heroism, codes of law, and cognition – and derogation of that which is considered feminine – gentleness, compassion, mercy, and intuition. He further astutely noted that the de facto disconnect between what society allows to be “masculine” and that which it calls “feminine” traits has created masses of individuals who are not free to be full-orbed humans because half of that which makes a soul is denied to them on the basis of gender.
However, rather than using this observation as a basis upon which to attack the basis of the stereotypes themselves, Johnson instead reinforces the stereotypes while attempting to install them as equals. He asserts that the traits that are stereotypically assigned to masculinity and femininity are accurately categorized as such and goes on to argue that the two forces must simply be brought into balance within civilizations for harmony to be achieved. This means that femininity must be restored to a position of honor and that, rather than being purely masculine or feminine, women should come into contact with their “masculine” side, and men should come into contact with their “feminine” side.
Remind me again why it’s so much more complicated to scrap this fascination with dividing personal characteristics such as heroism, compassion, reason, and emotion between the genders than to regard them as simply HUMAN characteristics?

خیلی منبری بود. کلی گوییهای بدون استدلال. توسل ناموفق به اساطیر و نتایج بیربط. میفرماید ارزش های زنانه را پاس بداریم ولی هیچگونه روشنگری در مورد چیستی این ارزش ها و چگونگی حفظ یا احیاشون نمیگه.

We see that recovering femininity involves more than just the feminism movements of today. Iran's woman-life-freedom movement takes a different tack. They desire femininity to emerge from the hijab (both literally and metaphorically) and regain her power.

I hadn't remembered reading this (that's where Goodreads comes in ;) and I guess I didn't like it as much on this reading. Johnson's books are interesting intellectually, but they fall short on practical discussion of how in integrate, say, femininity, into ones life/person. Femininity Lost and Regained is therefore an interesting short read, and I appreciate the way he reinterprets familiar myths, but that's all there is for me, reinterpretation and intellectual ponderings. I'll be looking elsewhere for how to actually "regain" femininity. As such, the title is a bit misleading. Of course, others may find something here I'm not--just my opinion.

Having read other books of Robert A. Johnson, I'm kind of confused about what he really wanted to accomplish writing this one. The three main problems I noticed peppered throughout the whole book are listed as below:
1) The author frames every masculine characteristic as negative in the first part of the book, and every feminine characteristic as positive (all the while cherry picking in order to fortify this blind point of view - ironically enough he does this in the interpretation of the Oedipus myth). For example, he uses Creon as a manifestation of the pure masculine, while Creon clearly symbolizes the sinister and corrupting greed for power. And he presents this thought while quoting from the drama written by Sophocles, which is an artistic documentation of the myth, in order to be brought on the theater scene by actors.
2) The author says there are no female heroes in Western myth, which is obviously wrong: the myth of Psyche is one example, which he himself interpreted fairly well in his book "She". Other than in Greek mythology, there are many fairytales with female heroes. It is important to keep in mind that old wonder tales are part of the mythos of a culture, and through them one glimpses at the unconscious, them being as old as myth.
Still, this claim seems like it's coming from a die hard feminist, shaking her fist at her forefathers of thousands of years ago, cursing at them for the inequality of women in myth...
3) The author also falls for the same old trap, of claiming the West is a inferior culture that suppresses the feminine, while the amazing Eastern culture embraces it in all forms. He even goes on to say that the Indians rejected the modernization and industrialization of their country, in order to stay more in touch with nature and therefore the feminine. This is a very disappointing take coming from the author: black and white shallow judgments on a whole culture, then using the foresaid judgments to compare two very different cultures, all the while rationalizing.
A bonus mistake the author did was using the drama Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare to push forward his views on how the West doesn't embrace the feminine, letting love die at the end of the story. But Romeo & Juliet is not a myth, therefore it is not smart to place a four hundred year old story in the same basket with the myths that certainly speak of the human unconscious. He also says that strategic marriages are a testament to the hyper masculine tradition of the West towards a feminine manifestation. But strategic marriages have always happened in every culture, and only these past 200 years people marry based on love. Still, this goes totally beyond the point this book supposedly is trying to tackle.
Even though the author as undertaken the dissection of a myth using the Jungian tools (psychoanalysis and interpretation of symbols), I'm baffled to find him comparing these myths with material characteristics of our time, all this from a stance clearly influenced by the Cultural Marxist ideology and it's branches.

A stupendous book
A lovely journey about how the westerner forget to respect the feminine.
A neat analysis from Greece and the inner meaning of Oedipus story and how they forget to respect the feminine energy and to till date
He chose one story from Hinduism from Mahabharata and detailed the inner meaning.
The country peace was rest on the feminine energy they practice and the country which failed has gone to so many wars and ruined their peace.
A new concept of awareness when Pharos are allowed to marry their sisters are just to give consciousness, when others are denied such practices.
The same Oedipus was burried outside Athens to give consciousness to whoever enter the Athens..
He detailed some kind of unique customs to the ruler was only to live in consciousness throughout their life.
This book will brings super-conscious to the reader.

اول که کتاب رو میبینی فکر میکنی فقط در مورد جنس زن و نهایت عقده ادیپ حرف زده شده، ولی موضوع عمیقتر از این حرفاست. به روند یا جایگاه زنانگی فارغ از خود زن در شرق و غرب پرداخته شده و به طوری کلی افول زنانگی در دنیا و نحوه بازپسگیری زنانگی هرجا که در طول تاریخ یا افسانهها در معرض خطر قرار گرفته.
از داستانهایی که به عنونان مثال گفته و تحلیل شده بود خیلی استفاده کردم. چیزی که گنگ بود «چگونگی احیای آن» بود که در موضوع کتاب هم اومده ولی صحبت خاصی در موردش نیست، آخر کتاب هم به همین نکته اشاره شد. در کل دونستنش برای همه واجبه تا دنیایی زنانهتر پرورش بدیم اما بعید میدونم درکش برای خیلیها ممکن باشه، همینطور که خودمم باید بیشتر راجع بهش بفهمم.

Very interesting book. Uses mythology as examples to explain the different qualities of masculinity and femininity, and how each of these concepts are necessary for humanity to persist. I deducted two stars because of my internal moral battle as a woman studies major with this book. I have long held the opinion that characteristics of men, women, non-binary, and trans people are characteristics that are simply specific to them as a person and does not relate to their sex nor gender. However, this book does assign qualities to men and women for them to live ‘full lives.’
