Since leaving his hometown and family after a bout of violence, disgraced Kenny Orton has been desperate to rediscover a sense of purpose.
One hundred and eighty-two days ago, he got it.
After 'The Incident' changed the world forever, he found himself one of the few gifted with superhuman abilities.
Armed with newly developed Herculean strength and driven to redeem his shameful past, Kenny teams with another Incident Powered individual, Gray Matthews—the tightly wound, disappointment-of-a-son to a tech titan.
Together, they fight back against the burgeoning V-Threat activity within Five Star City, until the death of a fellow Ultra forces a shocking revelation...
As blood spills and a sinister project becomes uncovered, their bonds of brotherhood begin to fray as the lines between good and evil blur, replaced with a twisted obsession that ends in murder—one Kenny is expected to help cover up.
New to this genre, I was at first sceptical at what might unfold, but I was pleasantly surprised. The author granted me a unique insight into this world with his excellent skill of storytelling. The depth to the characters is superb and had me invested all the way. I especially liked Kenny and Horatio and found their bond highly endearing. It is the relationships throughout this read that gripped me. Yes, it’s action packed, and yes, if you like books about superheroes, you’ll love this, but the way it was written and how it relates to real life shows the reality of who you can really trust. I look forward to jumping into the Ultraverse again soon.
What a great read! Superheroes, grounded fight scenes, murder!! and a few twists to boot! What more could you want from a book!
The amount of detail in the combat descriptions and techniques definitely shows that the Author has a martial arts background, making the epic fight / action scenes even juicier!
Cannot recommend it enough!
Looking forward to getting my hands on the next instalment! Which hopefully won’t be too far off!
A story that grabs you from the get go; twists and turns that keep you wanting more. A range of characters that bring out all your emotions - honestly is an action-packed page turner which everyone should read.
A brilliant debut novel. Cannot wait for the next instalment.
