This is book fourteen of the Witching After Forty series and finds Ava and Drew finally on their honeymoon, after numerous events tried to delay their wedding. They have travelled to an old castle in the Scottish Highlands, but Ava is getting a lot of attention from all the ghosts around the hotel, which is occasionally a bit too much. She even has one appear by her bed, asking her to help them. Who that is supposed to be, takes a lot more to figure out, as Ava’s normal necromancer powers are a bit on the fritz since another female descendant is currently percolating in her son’s partner’s tummy. She can’t get this ghost, who is dressed in a posh ballgown which gives nothing away about what era she came from, to even talk to her. Other times, the ghost seems to be in a rage at everyone and anything. They are both soon left to investigate an actual death, when one of the hotel guests is found dead at the bottom of a set of stairs. It seems this is not the only death connected to this hotel and every ten years a woman is seemingly pushed down the same stairs, thankfully not being killed until now.
Drew soon uses his police connections to allow them to help in the investigation and they start questioning other staff and even the owner It turns out there was a very tragic past connected to the hotel, back when it was a home to a well off couple, after a love triangle turned deadly. The surviving son decided to sell up and move away with his younger siblings, but returned to the area some time ago. The current victim looks remarkably like Ava’s best friend Olivia and her dad Luci soon makes a portal in a mirror in their bedroom, for Olivia to travel back and forth to. Olivia is desperate to get away from her newly turned vampire husband, who is acting very clingy at the moment. Ava and Drew need to do all they can to stop this dangerous ghost from killing anyone else, and hopefully send them on to their next life. Just the slight problem that one of the ghosts has lived with rage for far too long and magic was involved in keeping the other two ghosts of the love triangle from leaving the castle. Not quite their normal investigation and it is interrupting their honeymoon, but they can’t just ignore what is happening around them. Fun visits from Olivia and the cats, who end up causing a bit of mayhem in hidden passages. Old secrets need to be uncovered before they can solve this one and finally have the ghosts laid to rest. An enjoyable read, with a bit of something different for the pair and away from home and their families. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Our lovely couple can't even take a honeymoon without stumbling on dead bodies. It looks like they have another mystery to solve, then maybe they can get some time to themselves.

This is book fourteen of the series, but, it works pretty well as a standalone. While you will be missing some of the details, the essentials are covered early on.

This is a cozy witch mystery with lots of different paranormal elements thrown in. I am rather fond of this genre, so I have been enjoying this series. The story is well written and easy to read with a intriguing and diverse cast as well as a fun setting. The story itself moves at a good pace and includes plenty of action, intrigue and humor to keep things interesting. Overall, I enjoyed this latest addition and look forward to seeing what comes next.

Highly recommended.

This is book 14 and continues the storyline as Ava and Drew’s honeymoon is rudely interrupted by a ghost presenting a murder mystery. Of course, Ava and Drew feel obliged to investigate. Luci creates a portal so Olivia can join the investigation. Lucy and Snoozer soon join the party. It’s a very cold case, apparently happened 60 or so years ago. A brutal push down the stairs is suspected, but the ghosts aren’t talking to Ava and are actively avoiding her. There are many humorous moments during the investigation and a few tense, scary episodes. Ava, Drew, and Olivia all feel the murder must be solved. After much research and investigation, it is finally solved as the victims and perpetrator get their final exits, stage up or down. Just as Ava and Drew were finally enjoying their honeymoon, Grandmother Pearl arrives with news of a monster, that of course Ava will have to confront - in the next book.

I was privileged to read this in the Beta/Arc versions. I have loved every book in this series and this is no exception.

Ava and Drew have gone to Scotland on their honeymoon but there is no rest for the wicked or so the saying goes. Ghosts surround them in this ancient place, Ava is well able to handle these but towards the end of their honeymoon, they become embroiled in a mystery they need to solve before leaving.

Their friend Olivia joins in the detective work and luckily all is solved by the end of their time there. The book ends on a sort of cliffhanger or inkling into what the next story might be about.

I love the writing in this book as it is engaging and witty. It keeps your interest throughout.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Oh wow. That was quite the little mystery interrupting Ava and Drew’s honeymoon. One that both was and wasn’t what I thought it would be. It certainly kept me flipping pages to find out how they would solve the conundrum. Once again, I kind of think it was the supporting cast that stole the show, with nearly everyone dropping in to “help”. The teaser for what’s coming up next has me very curious to know what it is that Ava and Drew are about to get themselves involved in, and I can’t wait to read it.

So adorable!!

I loved this sneak peek into Drew and Ava's honeymoon... and the ghost hunting they end up being a part of. There are ghosts in the Scottish castle as to be expected, but there is one in particular that seems to be more malevolent than usual and causing harm to people at the hotel every ten years before Halloween. Ava and Drew, along with Olivia, go on a ghost hunt to find out why the old lady of the Manor is causing mischief... and murder!!!

This book was fabulous and i loved every page of it!!

I received an ARC for my honest review!

Poor Drew and Ava can’t catch a break even on their honeymoon. Of course if they wanted a break from ghosts maybe going to a haunted castle in the Scottish Highlands was a bad idea. But since they were there maybe they could solve a ghostly mystery.
This is a fun romp that will have you gigglesnorting.

Another good read in, this series. It could have been longer, the story could ave handled it easily. A nice jaunt to Scotland for their honeymoon, but things do not go according to plan. A mystery to solve, some serious haunting, necromancer powers still being unstable..... There is a lot going on in this one, that remains fun to read.

Written in a rush?

I normally enjoy these light novellas. The characters are cute and it's a quick adventure. This one was way to sloppy. Was it edited? Rouge vampire, ringing of hands, phrase repetition... I had difficulty enjoying it this time.

Why The Short Stories?

My dislike of the last book and this one is the shortness, lack of words, similarly so much like a child's reader. This makes me so unfulfilled. Looking for a new authors that write fun "books".

Witching After 40 #14

Such a fun story to follow. The author has some good storytelling in their mist. The characters are interesting and have different adventures from other series.

A bit slower

This was a bit slower and definitely more anticlimactic than any of the others. I suppose with it being the MCs honeymoon, that's expected, but still, just a low and slow read.

Haunted Honeymoon

Ava and Drew are in a castle in Scotland on their honeymoon and of course it's loaded with ghosts. Could one of them be a killer? Guess they will need to find out. Another wonderful story.

OK book; short, less than 50 pages. These books are getting shorter but full of action, twists & turns.
Ghost murder mystery. As usual Olivia can't resist a paranormal mystery.
Like Lucy's scenes for once; funny when Olivia drop dirt, accidentally, on her & Snoozer.

This one has to be my favorite so far . While predictable , it was so fun to read . Ava and Drew are on their honeymoon in Scotland at an Inn/ castle . It is very haunted and they have to solve a murder mystery that is tied to a curse . It is so fun!
